Pretty poor foresight by the coaches then to not get his development right then. We need all the midfield help we can get now.

He is much more needed in the midfield now given it’s the biggest weakness and we have some decent back men.

Plenty of players start in the backline and end up good mids. Mundy and Zac Williams the first that spring to mind

Agreed, the coaches have been far too reliant on him to go back and 'stop the rot' when the backline has faltered. He's always played relatively well when thrown in the middle and that's with very little match day preparation on opposition midfielders I'm sure. If Ling (or whoever) can grab a starting guernsey with both hands and allow Mills to push up further into the middle then I think we our midfield could have a proper go of it in 2021.

I reckon Adelaide will match it and that will be the end of that. But who cares we keep Pick 3!

Like don't give out 9 year contracts to a bloke who has already played 9 years at one club, just because he will be good for you club for maybe 4 or 5 years, only to be paid more money to sit out the game in his last few years then when he was playing his guts out.

Label people apologists by all means folks, but everyone on this board is an apologist depending on their own views, from what I've see on here in the last 14 years or so. I'm an apologist on many topics but on the topic above, which has single handedly affected our club so very positively in the early years, is also responsible for where & how we sit now. Something those in charge knew very well at the time would become a reality.

The system seems to put more emphasis on the annual salary rather than the total value of the contract.

I don't think there should be compensation picks at all... All I'm saying is that as the system stands it is an understandable result.
