2013 Tasmanian Draft Prospects

Looking forward to the game at Aurora tomorrow against Eastern Ranges. Anyone else going?

I'll probably be there, not a definite at this stage. If it's raining - I won't be going :)

T2M , just looking at GC list and there's the kid Henry Schade , Tas boy from the 2011 draft and hasn't yet had a game. Do you know much about him? If so how would Alex P compare , similar size....

Yeah pretty similar frames at the same age. Both fairly rangey types. Though Schade was pretty much always a KPD with good speed and agility and pretty ordinary endurance, whereas Pearce seems to have a pretty big tank and can pretty much slot in anywhere from ruck to KPD or KPF. Devonport's new player bio on Pearce has him at 194cm and 83kgs, so Schade has a little bit of height on Pearce.

It will be interesting to see where Tasmania play him. I think our back line is pretty settled, so probably forward and through the ruck - but might move him down back if we are getting smashed to get him in the game. Will be watching him, the K-Twins, Zac Webster, and Eli Templeton, who is coming back from injury, pretty closely during the champs.

OK so similar sizes and positions but different types.
Would it be fair to say Schade is more a lockdown sort , while Pearce is a probable offensive player?
Care to compare them to anyone? Chip Frawley , Harry Taylor ....

If Schade was worth P25 in 2011 , then is about the same for Pearce probable?

Way too early to call any of that. I'll only make predictions after I have seen enough through the champs, and more towards the end of the year. Pearce is a guy that has only recently come on the radar, and will need to continue to improve and put up big performances to get a look in. So much of his chance to be drafted is going to depend on having a strong champs, getting an invite to the combine, and continuing his very good form in the TSL. None of that is a given at this stage.

If I go to the game tomorrow, I'll come back with a bit more of a detailed report on him and some of the other guys I haven't gotten a chance to see much of. :thumbsu: It is a much more even looking team than last year, hopefully they can be pretty competitive.

Ryan Wiggins is one player that I'm quite interested in. Both he and Eli Templeton are possibly the two Tasmanians I'm most keen on seeing more of.

Unfortunately Eli is coming off an injury, so might be nursed through the first couple of games. Should be right when the champs start though. There are a few that could potentially make it to AFL from Tassie this year. More optimistic about getting a large draft from Tasmania than last year, which was always looking a bit shallow, but with high quality. Not to say that we will, but going into this draft with two guys who have been through the AIS in Templeton and Kolodjashnij, as well as guys who are performing very well in the TSL like Webster, Pearce, Wiggins, Grey, and JK. Barring disaster, I am fairly confident of getting another three this year - and hopeful of getting four or five.

Is Wiggins related to ex-Carlton Simon Wiggins?

Eli Templeton was extraordinary I thought. Extremely classy disposal, and went hard in contests. Good delivery inside 50 on a few occasions also. Great stuff coming back from injury, I don't think he has played many competitive games this year. His work rate was huge. Easily the most noticable of the Tasmanians.

Boyd smashed all our defenders. JK was much better when he was taken off Boyd. We even tried Pearce on Boyd, who did an OK job, but Boyd just looks so much stronger than the other guys his age. At one stage, particularly the second quarter, they just had to bomb the ball into their forward line and one of their talls would take a mark. Our defenders weren't great in the air, but JK did step up in the second half. We only lost the second half by 10 points, which is a decent effort against a team that plays and trains together.

I thought Webster was excellent. Very similar to Templeton in the way he went about it today. High work rate, good ball finding ability, and classy disposal. He hit some contests really hard as well.

Didn't notice KK much today. Was hard to see all the action though, and when he had the ball, he did do some nice things, but was probably a little quiet.

As for the lesser guys, I thought Jake Smith had some good patches. Took a couple of good marks, and was pretty good in contested situations. Also thought Brady Grey was very good at times.

Do you know who kicked the goals for us Sin City? I think Boscott got a couple, he will be handy as an over-ager. Not sure who got the other goals.

Ended up going down to Eastern by ten goals.

Templeton our best, very classy game.

Amazing effort by Webster to even be out there today after what he's been through but he had a very good game.

I thought Boscott had a good second half, provided some much needed physicality.

I think Wiggins kicked 2 T2M.

Kolodjashnij was a bit better in the second half but pretty disappointing really.

Agree that Grey was ok but needs to compose himself.

I never doubted him. :)
He still has a fair bit to prove before he wins back the trust of recruiters but performances like this will make people take notice.

Webster on the other hand, if what I hear is true then even taking the field let alone being Tassie's second best player is an act of great courage and shows just how dedicated he is to earning an AFL career.

He is a little warrior. I'll be getting very excited about him if he keeps producing that kind of performance throughout the champs. The record has him at 67 kilos  Not sure how accurate that is, but I believe it. He does look extremely skinny. Still crashes the packs hard. I am not sure what his time trial is like, but I am guessing he will be in the very top echelon in terms of endurance. Will be scary what he is capable of when he bulks up a bit.

Good to hear that Webster played well. His bro Jimmy has been playing some very impressive footy for Sandringham so far this year and was named emergency for us against Collingwood last night, so if he continues to do well that probably won't hurt Zac's chances of being drafted and/or drafted reasonably high.

Does anyone know who we have coming through that is promising for 2014? I know Lachie Weller is looking very good at this stage, but he is playing for Queensland. Is there anyone else to keep an eye on for 2014 in our state team? Nobody is really jumping out at this stage.
