Haven’t seen the show, (yet) so not sure if they mentioned his goal in the 3rd qtr?
Apparently it was his first goal in a Grand Final 😳

Cant recall if they talk about that one.

There were so many ‘bests’, including plays which we did throughout the season but did better or more effectively on GF day.

Went back to have more pics with the Cup yesterday, just because I could. In front of me was a family celebrating; grandma, mum and granddaughter. After the individual and family pics, they stepped up and placed a mobile phone beside the Cup. They opened the phone to show a photo of a husband, son, dad who passed away before the GF. Then they placed his Collingwood can cooler, stamped with his name, including a can, beside the cup for more photos.
It was a very touching moment and made me contemplate how many stories there are still being told about this mighty, mighty win.
Those of us of a certain age that have suffered the agony of 66, 70, 77 twice, 79, 80, 81, 2001, 2002, 2011 and 2018, are revelling in every moment, every different radio commentary team, every clip posted here in Big Footy and we are still tearing up every single time. It is, to me at least, our greatest ever victory.

This is currently my life.

Next time you watch the Grand Final, look out for a nice bit of physics at play …

Grand Final day was one of those typical days in Melbourne that has a mild northerly wind - it was a hot day of 29 degrees and bone dry,

The MCG stands offer good protection from any wind, but regardless, the 10 knot northerly shouldn’t have favoured either side …

… but clearly inside the stadium there was a westerly breeze that favoured the Punt road end. How?

Have a look at what the sun was doing to the stands throughout the game. The Punt road end stands were bathed in hot sunlight compared with those at the city end which were in shade. The air at the punt road end would have been heated by the the stands and risen up (as hot air does) thus creating a vacuum behind it. That vacuum would have dragged in the cool air off the city end part of the ground / stands. All of this would have created a local weather pattern of what was effectively a westerly breeze inside the stadium.

Crisp took advantage of it for two long range goals at the Punt road end, and Sidey clearly knew what was going on for his long range goal.
How good was Jordy’s 65m goal against that howling gale at the end of the first then?

Wow,that’s the best explanation of the weather conditions that day and how it affected the play, that I’ve seen.Great analysis. And you’re right,I think both Crisp and Sidebottom did take advantage of that little wind that was blowing down the ground, that most people in the stands probably weren’t aware of.

Maybe that’s what Darcy meant when he said to the players, in the huddle before the game, that this is ‘our’ ground.

I’m only half joking.

Again, it’s in the detailed planning and preparation for the GF. We’d be very familiar with the MCG microclimate conditions.😁

Makes it even sweeter that we used to the weather to our advantage when there was so much talk prior to the game about the heat favouring the Lions.

Interestingly it seemed to be the Lions players who were most affected by the heat during the game.

Im not sure about our greatest ever win, to me the drought breaker in 90 was just an out of world experience but i have no doubt as a season this has been the greatest ever ride for a Collingwood supporter to be on. From this time last year when we aggressively traded guys in, through to the Round 1 win, the comebacks, the hold on's, the close ones...has to be the greatest season in any living memory.
It's amazing what thoughts swirl through your head in the stress of watching a GF, the moment Cameron put the Lions back in front i honestly thought if we blow this i think i'm done, just couldnt go through this again. Within 68 odd seconds the universe had righted itself and it became amongst the best days we have ever experienced.

Also explains Elliott's shot in the 3rd falling short and Maynard's shot drifting left to hit the goal post that same quarter.

I hear you on ‘90 being the seminal experience- somewhat diminished by a 19yo me needing to secure a seat at 8am followed by a bit too much time in the mezzanine bar - but winning a close match to win a flag has this one winning at the moment. Recency bias also.

Probably been mentioned a lot and I missed it, but there needs to be more talk about the subtlety around JDG's goal that put us in front. There are so many factors in play that were quietly worked on throughout the season. If any one of these fails we probably don't win:

Pendles marshalled the troops and told them not to panic even though we were behind with less than 5 minutes on the clock.

McRae ordered a designated play for the moment which was displayed on a board.

Daicos went to Mitchell and asked if he wanted to be in the middle. Mitchell told him to back himself.

Cox, who had honed his tapwork all season though had an average game, is favoured as the ruck and wins the tap

Daicos sharks the tap, Pendles knows to leave his opponent, create space and kick it 20m forward.

Mihocek halves the contest.

(All year everyone has been talking about Daicos' skills but quietly he has been lauded for his six sense in knowing when to gut run. Titch has referred to it as "teleportation" in that somehow Nick just knows when to use his petrol tickets and repeatedly get on the end of the chain)

Daicos is front and centre to crumb and dish off a handball in one motion

JDG receives (and in Fly's words does something that can't be taught) kicks a clutch goal 60m goal.

If JDG isn't supported to be himself, if Cox didn't go back and dominate ruck in VFL, if Pendles isn't on field at that time to lead and calm, if Mitchell doesn't reassure Nick, if Nick doesn't work on his gut running, if Mihocek doesn't give his all to get to and halve the contest, if Fly doesn't stick to the process and gives a different instruction...

First granny I remember was 1970 crying as a 9yo afterwards. Then more heartbreak years. Moved to Sydney which was an AFL wasteland in 74 and just copped the airial ping pong jokes relentlessly. Years of GF losses followed. Watched the 1990 drought breaker on TV with two brothers who happened to be my managers at work and mad Pies guys. 2010 watched in Byron Bay at the Beach hotel packed with Pies fans and dragged a couple of pommy mates along then painted the town afterwards. Was at the 2018 GF heartbreaker, nothing needs to be said. Ended up watching this one in a motel room by myself with the odd phone call to mother and uncle. I have to say all you fellow BF Pies people made the lead up, match day and post match feel like I was with hundreds of kindred spirits.
So definitely my all time favourite GF win.

Yep, this beautiful passage of play is now folklore in our history and we'll look back on this, just like we look back at Shaw's smother in 2010 and the Daicos goal on the boundary in 1990.

This, and the goal that followed, are the finest and most joyous sliver of Magpie football i have ever seen.

The utter despair I was in when Cameron kicked that goal then seconds later Jordy pulls that off, that momentum was everything

That feeling of despair as another GF slips from our grasp:( Been there too many times in my life. Thankfully this one was different. Before l could gather my thoughts we were back in front never to be headed again:)

It’s funny I would have been in despair too a couple of years ago. When Cameron kicked that goal and the clock said 5 minutes left I thought that’s plenty of time for us. The Macrae factor I guess.
