List Mgmt. “It’s a form of tanking” the Richmond rebuild

Not sure who your 13 players are that are out, but that sort of listless performance is going to have lots of media types following Kanes lead for a hot take on how bad Richmond are.
Yup, we will be bad this year. Reckon the pass mark on wins will be about 2.
Media wowsers shouldn’t get their knickers in a not over this. We are in year one of a rebuild. And we saw how bad Carlton and North were at this stage of their development. 4 wins would be a significant overachievement.

Just to be clear… will we still be hearing “it’s a form of tanking” this year even though we’re widely (unanimously?) predicted to be wooden spooners, and even possibly go winless?
Well yeah, I’ve already heard Barrett imply on one of his AFL shows that Richmond didn’t set out to win games in 2025 when they made the decision they did to hit the draft.

I’m telling you, it will come thick and fast if you get rolled by the Blues in a big way.

I’m sure Barrett had some fantastic ideas what to do with the picks we got for those players that chose to leave.

Perhaps squander them on some retreads to prop ourselves up.

Rebuilds are tough. Thankfully it’s over for Richmond.

Plenty thought they had lost a lot of pure talent, but it seems they have kept the heart and soul type players left to ease the transition
Hawks tigers grand final you rkn?

IMG_4096.gif What others think when you quote Barrett.

Not sure every club is going to shit the bed like Carlton did from 40 pts up.

Relevance?

Isn't this thread you started about Richmond tanking?

Well if they were tanking then coming back from 40 points behind and kicking 12 of the last 14 goals is a REALLY REALLY piss poor tanking effort.

Just an observation. ;)

norths tanking effort last year was legendarily piss poor, accidentally beating us in round 21 then backpedaling their percentage furiously last couple of rounds after we lost at home to st kilda

Take and insert any of his highlights and it’s the same old. He is a boring vanilla player. Sam Lalor had an embarrassing carnival which included an [emoji[emoji6]] touch game. He is a very weak no contender. How many no picks who are midfielders have an [emoji[emoji6]] possession carnival game?? He will struggle badly his first few years.

Crap mediocre top [emoji6]-[emoji[emoji6][emoji6]]

Not sure this has aged too well.

This is a list of players unavailable on the weekend, who will likely be part of our best team in the latter part of this year when fit.

I don’t see us winning more than a few games this year, but I’d expect we will be far more competitive post bye with a deeper list to choose from.

Thursday night didn’t prove much other than the club is united in the path they are taking. Where that ends up who knows … but at least they have direction and a clear plan.

Question with all these long lists of 'outs' is...who would they replace?

To put these 11 players in, you need to take 11 out after all...

Also, McAuliffe was named as emergency and he and Sims played VFL the following day, so I'm pretty sure they were available.

No idea tbh, but it does highlight something that the tigers have missed for quite a few seasons now and that’s having a clear best 22

It’s particularly because the overall bar has been lowered and because of the influx of more talent through the draft but it means we have genuine competition for spots in the side

That is what fuels individual development and also the ability to not be so dependent on the same group of players all the time

Agreed. It's almost impossible to predict a Richmond best 22 for 10 weeks time, end of 2025 or 2027. Which is pretty exciting really and means everyone will be thinking they're a shot, yet few will be safe as houses if form dips.

I’m a firm believer that it’s not the top tier that creates flag opportunities for the clubs

Every club especially has a handful of stars that can break a game open

It’s if they have the ability to cover injuries with relatively good players that can be plug and play

It’s has been the key for all the dominant sides and even something that people overlook in sides like Geelong and the thing that actually makes their recruitment so strong

It’s also what undone Richmond, and why i believe Collingwood are following the same route

We lost the Markovs, Chol, Miles, Butler types so when we copped injuries instead of having a guy with a solid body and decent afl ability coming in you are playing a younger player and possibly re structuring the side to make it work

Pretty much every opinion you have for the rest of this season(and let's be honest it really should be the rest of your life), is null and void. But please tell us next time you 'hear' something.

I swear you have to be an imbecile to even get noticed and become a moderator on this site.

Yep, I'd say only about 5 or 6 of those blokes, assuming they're fit, are certainties to be included.

Balta takes out Miller or Blight.
Gibcus takes out the other one from Miller or Blight.
Prestia takes out Sonsie.
Ralph-Smith takes out Dow.
Smillie takes out either Banks or Campbell.
Only two out of Armstrong, Lefau and Bauer play in a "Lynch is fit" team.
Clarke, McAuliffe and Green are a toss up - probably room for only 1 or 2 of that pack.
Hotton, Faull and Sims are very unknown quantities for any 2025 involvement.

That still leaves 4 or 5 first year players in the 23, which does not make for wonderful short-term success, albeit them being high draft picks. But as someone else pointed out above, depth of that 24th-30th-best group is critical in remaining competitive.

The reality is, and what we've come to expect in the last 2-3 years, we will always have 4-6 best-23 on the sidelines.

Gibcus, Prestia and Lynch in particular cannot stay on the park at all, so as much as I dream about their unimpeded involvement going forward, the reality is we might have to come to terms with life without them all (or maybe even any of them) playing at the same time. Unfortunately Gibbo could very well be the next Anthony Morabito the ways he's going.

We had a glorious run with injury through 2017-18, and about league average through 2019-2020, so now we're seemingly paying a heavy price for that good fortune.
