We need to drop 10 players from tonight’s team to even believe we are a chance.
As we can’t do that, if Gov, Acres or Evans are in the team, this week, then we are not worth watching.
Fogarty and Cottrell are treated with disrespect by the opposition and as much as we believe they are defensive forwards playing their role, we are kidding ourselves.
I don’t know if Moir, Durdin or White are fit or not but we need some buz and X factor in our forward line.
At least if we had some offensive goal kicking mid/smalls, the opposition might pay them some attention!!
Williams injury has come at a very, very bad time.

Worst contract in recent history.

We will start well and kick many of the first few goals, which will be surprising,
We'll go into half time with a narrow lead, which nobody saw coming.
In the third the opposition will hit back hard and get the game on their terms, which we won't expect.
In the last we will be overrun and made to look second rate for another loss, which nobody could have predicted.

We need McKay back in and firing alongside a white hot Curnow + a small forward to pull 3 goals outside of there 🍑 to be within 4 goals.
Agree Mckay will help the structure but we’re coming off a 6 day break but Pies will be fresher coming of a bye , this game may really get ugly after a few quarters of footy. Voss has got to pull a few rabbits out of the hat to get us across the line. Can’t see it , just keep the fingers crossed no further injuries.

We ran out of legs after quarter time with an extra days break than the dogs … reckon this one will be over early

Out: The usual suspects

In: The deckchairs

IF they crush us it'll be bye bye Vossy.

IF we lose a close game Vossy will be proud of the endeavor and won't know where we lost the game.

IF we win it'll be a miracle.

Any of the young key position players capable of playing a full game at seniors level? Love to see Lemmey or HOK goven a run at it.

Reckon it’ll be easier to reset (rebuild) the midfield compared to the spine, so may as well get it started.
O’Keefe is coming back from a long injury layoff and Lemney is barely able to impact Reserves games so I don’t think either will be option any time soon. Of the 2 OKeefe looks the more promising by a fair way.

Am I blind or where are McGovern and Acres? No chance they gets dropped for this one imo :tearsofjoy:
Gov has been putrid in all 3 games this year and should get dropped and whilst Acres has been a bit below par so far this year he has been far from our worst.

I agree with you however both will play because 1) Voss likes backing in the senior players and 2) there are no obvious replacements for either of them.

Gov back into self preservation mode like he was in our horror 2023 run when we lost 8 of 9. Acres coming back from back surgery so willing to cut him some slack. Either way the potential replacements aren't very compelling.

We are 0-3 and sorta competitive, in a well we know we wont win kind of way. So we don't go full "play the kids" yet. I think the sorta competitive business won't be the case next week. They will smell blood in the water, we are terrified of the rivalry, they revel in it. Also, our side is built on a house of cards relying on a handful of gun players and willing helpers to drag us over the line in games, and the house of cards collapsed around quarter time v GWS last year. I fear that game will be looked upon like the R4 2012 game v essendon, when it all fell apart.

No VFL, running blind

Out Evans, Williams, Acres,
In Moir, White, Carroll/Lucas

Walsh, Gov and Doc, all lucky we don't have players to take the spot

We really need H, Elijah, Cincotta, Newman back in this side
We can cover Gov with Haynes and JSOS. He's playing as a small.

Cost us the game tonight with multiple piss poor efforts, should be first player dropped.

Blues in front early. Effort there. Curnow looks ok. Just didn’t take chances. Pies start getting space and hitting targets. Daicoses running rampant. TDK a force of nature. Blues fans start worrying about umpires. Pendlebury shows poise immediately after Cripps/Acres/Walsh clanger. McGovern limps off. Mihocek or Elliott kicks four. Magpie army going nuts. Blues left to rue missed opportunities. Voss happy with the effort.

VLOSS 2025 playbook.

We have lost 10 of our last 12 matches but there is some context which suggests we are not in fact a bottom 6 team:

1st loss to Giants by 12 points after being up big - Giants finished 6th and lost to the Premiers by just 5 points
2nd loss was to Bulldogs by 14 points - terrible result in Cripps' 200th but the Dogs did finish Top 8 so not a bad team
3rd loss was to Port by 14 points - frustrating
4th loss Collingwood by 3 points - should have won
5th loss Hawthorn by 74 points - worst result in a long while
6th loss to Saints by 2 points - we were undermanned and came close
7th loss to Lions in the Eliminaton by 28 - they completely outplayed us
8th loss to Tigers by 13 points - inexcusable to first year players
9th loss to Hawks by 20 points - just not good enough
10th loss to Bulldogs by 8 points

Total average margin for the 10 losses is 19 points - take away the one blowout and it's 13 points average loss across 9 matches.

Can we turnaround this 13 points average loss to a 13 point average win? Can we cut down the worst of our turnovers that lead directly to goals by 2 goals a game? Can we slightly improve our goal kicking efficiency to convert more of our forward 50 entries by an extra 2 goals per game? Can we cut out our 5 worst mistakes each game (the ones where we turnover close to their goal, or where we do not pass to a player open in our forward 50)?

The answer is we can - but whether we will depends on the players and coaches getting on the same page and for the players sticking to the game plan for longer.

We shouldn't be writing off the season - we should demand they improve because it's very doable and only losers would give up at this stage.
