I think this should be the key driver with every decision we make. Will it get us closer to a premiership or not.

This is why I get so frustrated with the trading away of important draft picks during a rebuild, long term it always hurt you.

For that same reason, what makes a good recruit will be completely different if you are pushing for a top 4 finish, or starting a rebuild. For this exact reason, I feel Aish was a bad recruit purely because the timing was poor, and he was always unlikely to be part of any sustained push into finals.
Out of interest, what do you think of North’s recruits this year? Good or bad for them long term?

I don’t think it’s about any given win. It’s about a brand that stacks up.

Daniel Hoyne from Champion Data was on SEN today. They’ve created new way to measure ball movement for teams.

It’s an interesting discussion, but one thing they do mention is Fremantle is among the showest teams in the comp this year, and when they looked back, Freo has been the slowest or second slowest ever since JL took the reins.

The whole discussion is interesting, but the Fremantle part starts at 11 minutes in.

I bet Champion Data also has statistics on why Daniel Hoyne is the "smartest man in football".

Caleb Daniel - Pick 25
Luke Parker - Pick 44

North have been rebuilding for a long time, they have players coming out of contract and becoming a free agents, and they need to show some wins to keep them.

I think they were pretty good during the rebuild (Don't follow them that closely), but I can't remember them trading picks out in the last few years.

I could justify that bringing them in gets them closer to a premiership, if it lets them hold onto LDU and other players.

The issue I have with us is not Aish alone, it is Aish, Matera, Lobb, Hogan, Kersten, Hill, Hamling, Wilson, Acres and Clark.

Some of these are great pick up. Clark has been brilliant, but we have not valued our draft picks enough.

I just think during a rebuild you need to be a lot more selective on who you bring in, and ask how they will get you closer to a flag and don't overrate your list.

Anyway, we are getting side tracked in this thread. Dudley not sub :partypooper:🎉🥳

JL on dudley
"he won't be the sub"
"we had a ton of inside fwd50's and couldn't score, we needed to bring in fwd class"

Do they count when they're not clean i50s?

It's not like we were moving it with speed and precision, i find its hardly an indictment on the forward line when the defense is allowed to get numbers back and structure appropriately because our ball movement is dog shit.

Somewhat concerned that JL sees it as a forward line issue not a method issue.

Still though they rarely marked it. The ball went to ground and it was all Swans to mop it up

I think Clark, Jackson, JOM & Bolton are amazing gets for us and definitely part of the core of for a premiership tilt? Some will disagree about JOM but I feel even if he doesn't play he's a great leader off field too and worth it

Yeah, that is probably correct. JoM is 50/50, but he has been very impressive this year.

Nil pressure on the kid then. The bloke we traded two first rounders for didn't get it done last week so we're turning to you, Wombat
The collect and ball drop from hand to foot, combined, is such a short distance and happens so quickly Dud's doesnt have time to feel the pressure, let alone an oppo player being able to realise he's taken possession and then attempt to smother.

He is a walking two goals a game at every level. Book it.

for real though, i will be happy if we are playing like when we put Melbourne to the sword. Confident in our plays, backing ourselves, drilling them into the ground through aiming to score to the last second.

If we are playing like 2nd to 4th quarter last week where we were ahead but looked like a rabbit being chased by greyhounds around a track, no, i won't be happy.
Seriously, you’re setting yourself up for unhappiness. At least 95% of the reason we played like we did against Melbourne, was because Melbourne let us play like that. Melbourne rolled over, imploded and set about fertilising the grass. It’s no big acheivement to pile on 20+ goals when you’re the only team on the oval.

So from the press conference Bo Allan isn't making his debut. McQualter also saying Ginbey and Hough can play tall or small. That would mean they go in with McGovern and Edwards as key talls in defence.

Longmuir still deciding on ruck options.

One of the biggest issues we have had first two weeks is no one front and centre of the pack, it's been ridiculous tbh. Bringing in a front and centre specialist seems like a pretty good idea to me!

I’m tipping we revert to a two talls forward line. Luke and Josh to share the ruck. Voss and Reidy watch from the stands. If we need another tall in the forward line the options include Draper, Cox and Chappy.

The quality of performance WC brings will be both discounted and trivialised.

We could win 40-2 clearances including 28-0 centre clearances dominating the scoreboard and field position and the outcome will be "well WC are clearly rubbish".

I don't think there's a win for the coach anyway here.
But there’s a loss, he needs to win this one purely to keep his head afloat, and then keep winning… bulldogs, Richmond, Melbourne, Adelaide… then maybe the worm starts to turn.

Right now I’m of the opinion t
TOP: Team "let's back JL until the season is over" even if he gets sacked.

BOTTOM: Team "we're going nowhere until JL gets sacked"
Well that’s just not true, because of the horrific football we will have to watch whilst JLo is still in a job…
