Tt and Ross should apologise to the group these guys are paramount to us being competitive and there's zero excuse to not touching it in a half , wtf were they up against triple premiership Brownlow medalists ,,, I think not
Shameful performance. Bounce back boys
Reality check. Ross rarely gets any positive feedback from the football world, wouldn't be the first to drink his own bathwater. Taranto, god knows.

Reality check.

But it was more than just those two, they ran in waves, we chased backsides.

With all the hoo haa in here I reckon we need to look at it as a top 4 team on a big rebound against a young team still on a high from a first up upset win. This was always a game that would be based on which Port turned up. The fully committed top 4 team turned up and we were smashed.

And also most of our starting midfield was poor.

Anyway, lots of green shoots from the young guys.

And this season has started weird. Lots of upsets. We did one, then get hammered. Next week will the Saints have a drop off and we bounce back? Here's hoping
Unlike recent years the side was just going through the motions.Nursing our premiership champions thru too retirement.
Breath of fresh air through the place now and anyone going off their head about a loss like that has no idea.

Well it's 2 weeks in, so nor should they drop Taranto. He was good last week.

Dropping players early in the season is a hard one, even the young ones.

I think we have to bring in McAuliffe as he has some speed and power. His running game is still a little lacking, but that will improve every week he plays, but pro's over con's easily. The MacIntosh experiment lasted half a game, which is what I thought it would when we start losing, but he played well back on the wing, so I think Trezise might be the unlucky one. Played a good first half v Carlton, but hasn't done a lot since.

Banks out and Sonsie in also. Sonsie can go through the middle and do some wing time. Dow was okay, but he is not a long term wingman, and we don't really have one in the VFL. Perhaps they should give Smith a go on the wing. He was very nervous with his skills, but at VFL level they are sound so needs game time to see if he is up to it. He has speed, and outside the forward line we need more speed.

Fawcett unlucky for Lynch, but Bauer gives a bit more flexibility and deserves a good run of games. It is going to be a hot spot up forward with Sims and Faull impressive in the VFL.

Blight was good and could easily go forward/ruck again, but we might be a bit short down back.

Port's collective running killed us, but we showed a bit.
Blight went forward after Lukocious went off. Saints are not tall up forward with King injured.

Saints don't have a tall forward line so we need speed down there.
Blight was very good as a forward ruck and is more seasoned.
Harsh on Smith, his skills are good at VFL level, so cared of making mistakes he made them.

why are we playing McIntosh on the wing. Please don't say experience after he spending Saturday jogging down the field 20+ metres behind the ball carrier. When we are competitive in 2028, he will be retired. Why do we pick him over the kids. He is not that good.

Mc2 and Lynch come in for Banks and probably Fawcett.
Our problem still lingering from last year where there is no pressure on the opposition midfield when they get the ball. No urgency to chase forcing our defence to come forward and they chip it over the top. The worst offenders are our so called experienced players.
After a great opening round. Taranto, Hopper, Ross and Mcintosh got stuck behind their opponents.
Promising signs from the young blokes.

Because in the second half back on the wing he wasn't too bad. We were slaughtered by their running game, and Mac has at least that. His disposal by foot was pretty good also.

He is keeping his spot until HRS comes back. Ross may be pushed wide again dependant on his form, hopefully last week was a blip, but we have very few others capable of running the wing all day. It would be a high priority in next years draft.

Dow is not a wingman, there is nobody in playing VFL or in our new recruits. Clarke has a shot but not ready. Would be happy to see Mansell up there, or Short play there. Campbell stays forward because nobody else looks like scoring. Smith also a shot.

Can't throw them all to the wolves.

You just know McAuliffe won't be in.

If we don't give him a game now, I really worry we are ruining him. He is clearly a ball magnet, young and ready to go in a rebuilding team. We need him to get to 50 games very quick as he will take us forward if we develop him. Start him in the middle, play him there for as long as we can, and if he's struggling/unfit then sub him off. Do NOT START HIM AS SUB - IT ACHIEVES NOTHING.
Come next year, I want to see our starting mids as Taranto, Lalor and Smillie with McAuliffe the first one rotating in, followed by Ross and then Hopper.

Outs: Banks (Concussion), Bauer (Omitted) Smith (Omitted)
Ins: Lynch, McAuliffe, MRJ

Bauer does not work hard enough, and Fawcett deserves another go. Afterall, we have Fawcett, Armstrong, Sims, Faull and to an extent Ryan all competing for the tall forward spot with Lynch. We need to give them an opportunity to see who wants to claim their spot the most. Bauer looks disinterested and has been given a few games already.

MRJ didn't play VFL. Still injury managed.

Banks for Smith might make sense. Blight drifted fwd, back up ruck. King aint playing so, no match up for him down back again .

McAuliffe had some injury preseason and missed a bit. He's fit and firing. He got games in the middle in 2024 ahead of Sonsie. I reckon Kmac back to the wing.

3rd talls much loved by selectors, Bauer been back up ruck & kicking a goal a game.

Fawcett kicked a great goal too.

Armstrong & Lynch plus Fawcett or Bauer or Blight

Yep, I thought MRJ was injury managed. If that's the case, bring in Sonsie as the Sub. and when he comes on, he plays in the guts. none of this forward rubbish.

Haha nah we beat em by like a hundred there during our dynasty years… maybe 2019…

Edit.. it was 2021
So 6 years ago.

Was that the last time we beat anyone there?
