although Sam Lalor only had 10 disposals he had 4 tackles usually tackles is a stat young players struggle with especially at AFL level because the game is so much quicker we knew from his draft tackling was a attribute trait he had you can tell this kid is putting in 100% effort, for instance Jacob Hopper had 0 tackles on the weekend despite being around the ball way more, to me that is completely unacceptable from an experience head, it's either lazyiness or he is just too slow & incapable. probably the latter but proves my theory is that both Taranto & Hopper can not be on the inside at the same time.
they should not be in the side at all, they don't offer much more than the players we have, so we better put time into the kids and bring them up to speed. we are much better off trading them to another team.

The way i see is that they arent good enough to teach anything useful.
Theyre too slow, too stagnant.
and by the time we are ready to have a good crack, they'll be too old.

So it's not worth having them for the cost we paid and pay. Should do a trade with north

Smille needs to be put through the VFL to at least get some conditioning before an AFL Debut and Trez, Dow and Macca will run the Wings. Would leave those 3 to do the wing position whilst bringing in McAuliffe to run purely as a mid
Agree with smilie to vfl to begin he's missed 6w

Outs: Banks (injured), Fawcett (unlucky)
Ins: Lynch, McAuliffe (sub)

Bauer stays because he can move back if need be, and with Lynch - Fawcett and Armstrong it may be too tall.

Smillie (if fit) back through VFL.

The wings need to be looked at with both tresize and banks have zero defensive game , when a couple of no names have 60 between them in Bourgogne and mead , it’s a problem . For mine these are first 2 spots to open up for smillie and Kano

Harsh on Burgoyne and Mead; and both aren’t definitely ‘no names’. Maybe not as lauded in the Melbourne Media but both can play.

But their influence against us is also more a call against our poor defensive pressure and structure. Wings - probably more than any other position - are used structurally and not 1v1. Being unable to keep the ball out of the corridor (easy switches/ angle changes) and locking inside forward 50 (press up, ball over the back or through the press) lead to easy possessions for all including wings.

I also think we need to move away from the mindset of 1 bad game = being dropped. Banks is out anyway, but both were good against Carlton and Tresize one of our best against Collingwood. These are young guys and are going to have bad games; maybe more often than not due to where we currently sit.

Let them have an opportunity to learn from it and develop I say.

Face it.
We don’t have the balls to drop Taranto or especially Hopper.
Until we make the top guys accountable, the rest will never be.l
Well it's 2 weeks in, so nor should they drop Taranto. He was good last week.

Dropping players early in the season is a hard one, even the young ones.

I think we have to bring in McAuliffe as he has some speed and power. His running game is still a little lacking, but that will improve every week he plays, but pro's over con's easily. The MacIntosh experiment lasted half a game, which is what I thought it would when we start losing, but he played well back on the wing, so I think Trezise might be the unlucky one. Played a good first half v Carlton, but hasn't done a lot since.

Banks out and Sonsie in also. Sonsie can go through the middle and do some wing time. Dow was okay, but he is not a long term wingman, and we don't really have one in the VFL. Perhaps they should give Smith a go on the wing. He was very nervous with his skills, but at VFL level they are sound so needs game time to see if he is up to it. He has speed, and outside the forward line we need more speed.

Fawcett unlucky for Lynch, but Bauer gives a bit more flexibility and deserves a good run of games. It is going to be a hot spot up forward with Sims and Faull impressive in the VFL.

Blight was good and could easily go forward/ruck again, but we might be a bit short down back.

Port's collective running killed us, but we showed a bit.

A week earlier they had 16p ea and drew criticism from afar

Tt and Ross should apologise to the group these guys are paramount to us being competitive and there's zero excuse to not touching it in a half , wtf were they up against triple premiership Brownlow medalists ,,, I think not
Shameful performance. Bounce back boys

Lunch back in. Either Fawcett or Bauer out (probably Fawcett)
McAuliffe in. Banks Out. Move McIntosh to the wing.

Please leave Sonsie in the 2's.

With all the hoo haa in here I reckon we need to look at it as a top 4 team on a big rebound against a young team still on a high from a first up upset win. This was always a game that would be based on which Port turned up. The fully committed top 4 team turned up and we were smashed.

And also most of our starting midfield was poor.

Anyway, lots of green shoots from the young guys.

And this season has started weird. Lots of upsets. We did one, then get hammered. Next week will the Saints have a drop off and we bounce back? Here's hoping
