I'm still completely baffled why back in 2014 the board (Tony Cockrane included) let Marcus Ashcroft review Mckenna's job.

Then let Marcus Ashcroft hire a new coach. Passed on Bolton why ? Passed on Beveridge why ?
Ashcroft was always going to hire someone who he and other members of the footy dept could work with. That's why Eade got the job. Instead of hiring a coach that was going to strengthen the club and make the players better Ashcroft chose Eade to strengthen his own position at the club.

The board should have authorised a full review of the footy department at the end of 2014 season.

Current board members that oversaw the 2014 firing and hiring should also be under review

Tony Cochrane at heart is an entrepreneur/showman so I suspect he was wanting a "name" coach and he would have been pretty dominant I reckon in the selection panel.

I love Tony we need someone that will stick up for us and he does it brilliantly but he's not perfect, the process to replace Bluey and Shanghai are at best questionable moments in his time.

The Coch only joined the board March 2014 Became Chaiman 2016 - so had nothing to do with McKenna departure and Ashcroft footy department review.
Thank god hes there to have it done properly this time...!

Really?? I recall reading an article once where he said he had a lot to do with the selection of Mr Eade.

If u don't believe me about him being on the panel then read this

My Bad Mr Bod... got my years mixed up - he was only pretty new to the board then though - so hardly the only driving force.
You have to agree the Evans review this time appears to be more professionally structured.

Are we now suggesting that back in 2014 Rocket was not the right choice to take over from Bluey? Hindsight is amazing inn'it. At the time we had a toxic culture and had a heap of players who overran the coach and got away with whatever they wanted. We needed a mature, experienced head to come in and right the ship, not another newbie. Yeah in hindsight Beveridge/Bolton would have been good, but how many people at the time can genuinely say they would have been happy with us replacing Bluey with another un-tried young coach without knowing how things would turn out? Go back to the 'welcome Rocket thread' and I doubt it is full of comments saying what a mistake it is.

Rocket has come in and turned our off-field culture around. Yes it is time to move on again and bring in someone with a fresh perspective to get the most out of the team now that we have a stronger culture and everyone signed up, but let's not pretend that Rocket was some catastrophic mistake. If you want an example of that just look at the first coach we brought in.

Yeah no dramas Sunraysia. Hey I like your profile name, r u originally from the Sunraysia region?

And I agree that this review is a much better structure. When Ashcroft did the last review he would have been reviewing himself too. What the heck is that.

I think Rocket has run his race and is probably a much better guy to shape a clubs culture and standards due to the fact he has seen plenty in his days, I don't think he has the energy or strategy to take a young team to the big dance so its time, be good to see him offered a role in the department though however the knock on him is he is lazy
The Buckley thing is ridiculous, if he is failing at the biggest spending footy department and largest membership club with everything at their fingertips why would we want him, we need to get the next BIG thing and someone who is going to take the next step at senior coach status
Dean Solomon is definitely not out of the question but there are a couple of guys waiting for their turn at the main gig so the review will definitely be a precursor to a major overhaul which is great news

Got my tag from their Orange Juice brandname... not knowing it was actually a place!

Well said. We were a basket case. Rocket's turned that around. He might not be the man to take us to finals, but I respect the guy for steadying us during a really garbage period.

Wait, so has Evans already begun the full-scale review thing of the off-field coaching staff? Or is this just a report on the coach? I assume they would not publicly announce stuff like this so maybe no one really knows.

Also, good to see we are ahead of the 8 ball here and not waiting until the season has finished like last time if I recall. Just a minor thing, but already points towards Evans/Coch having their s**t together and planning ahead.

About bloody time. The first review was half arsed. Evans will not let any small detail go unchecked. No one is safe and hoping Ashcroft and Clayton are moved on. Full review into player development as well and hopefully, much like the Lions, it will be the priority going forward. So many players have great traits but they have not improve on their weaknesses enough, even after being at the club for 5+ years!

One thing i took from that article was the first review of the footy department was done by Ashcroft . Ashcroft is head of the footy department , what is he going to say ? Its like asking Exile to review the modship of this forum.:D

Wonder if Evans can pull a guy like Hodge up here as an assistant? Assuming there was an interest in coaching, he's spent plenty of time in and around Hawthorn, a different club might be a good fit.

Would certainly bring a little hardness to our powder puffs.
I'd make him an offer too good to refuse to play one more season. When he was mic'd up the other day, his coaching on field and organising the structures out there was first class. Exactly what we need on the ground.

I thought him going to the lions for a year then coaching afterwards was a smart move.
Might go straight into coaching up there instead. Close with Fagan
