Week three of the finals provided some decent contests, the Colts and Reserves' matches proved to be fairly tight gamees while the League fixture produced a good last quarter. This week proved somewhat tough to tip, no-one scored more than two tips for the round while samFFC got the bonus point this week to finish with a total of three points for the week.

After week three of the finals, there's a four way tie for top spot with andana, Freezin, gaskin and samFFC now tied for the lead while I have a hold of outright fifth place.

Finals Tipping Competition - Week Four Fixtures

League: Subiaco vs South Fremantle at Perth Stadium (3:20pm, margin)
Reserves: Perth vs Subiaco at Perth Stadium (9:20am)
Colts: Claremont vs Swan Districts at Perth Stadium (12:10pm, margin)

After an extended season, we've reached the Grand Finals for 2021 with the matches for all three grades to take place on Saturday at Perth Stadium. Ticket sales are apparently the highest they've been for 20 years so hopefully there'll be a good crowd in attendance on the day.

The League Grand Final sees Subiaco taking on South Fremantle to decided the 137th WAFL premiership. Both clubs have shown good form across the entirety of the season, finishing in first and second place on the ladder respectively after the end of the home and away rounds. Subiaco faced South Fremantle a couple of weeks ago in the Second Semi Final, getting off to a good start in the first half before holding off the Bulldogs in the second half to register a 22 point win plus earn a week off before the Grand Final. South Fremantle hosted Claremont last week and were the better side in the opening three terms as they opened up a 35 point lead at three quarter time while keeping the Tigers goalless to that point. However, Claremont hit back with four goals in quick succession narrowing the margin to 11 points with more than half of the final quarter remaining. Despite keeping South Fremantle scoreless in the last term, the Tigers could get no closer which saw Souths through to the decider after maintaining their 11 point margin for the remainder of the game. Both Subiaco and South Fremantle have played in a number of great matches in recent seasons, including finals and this one shapes up as another such encounter. This game is one of two margin matches for the day with bouncedown scheduled for 3:20pm.

In the Reserves, Perth will battle Subiaco in the day's opening fixture in a battle between third and fourth, a Grand Final fixture no-one would have expected at the start of the finals series. Perth earned a week off after causing a huge upset of Claremont in the Second Semi Final to move straight through to the Grand Final in what was a nailbiting encounter with the Demons retaking the lead at the 29 minute mark of the last term. Subiaco caused an boilover of their own as they too upset Claremont in the Preliminary Final last week in another close contest to earn a spot in the Grand Final, having won three games in a row starting with the Elimination Final just to get through to this year's season deciding game. Both clubs have had fairly even seasons and this match to start the day looks to be a fairly promising encounter. Bouncedown for this match is at 9:20am with coverage provided by Front Row Screens via their Facebook page.

In the Colts, Claremont take on Swan Districts beginning at 12:10pm. Claremont and Swan Districts have arguably been this year's best two sides in the Colts with Swan Districts claiming the minor premiership while Claremont finished the home and away season in second position. These two sides met in the Second Semi Final and it was Claremont who were victorious, winning a close game by nine points which saw the Tigers earn a week off while Swans had to play in a Preliminary Final against East Fremantle. Swan Districts controlled their Preliminary Final game in the first half against Old Easts and saw them hold a 27 point lead at half time but went through the entire third term goalless while the Sharks bagged four goals of their own to reduce the margin at the last change to just a point. The last term was quite a tussle but Swans found themselves in front by two points at the final siren, giving them another crack at the Tigers in the Grand Final in what should be another entertaining contest. Channel Seven's coverage of Grand Final Day starts at 12pm with this match being the first of the two margin games for the afternoon.

The weather for Saturday is looking wet with showers expected and a maximum of 19 degrees. About 2-5mm of rain is predicted and it looks like it'll be wet for periods during the day with winds to be blowing westerly throughout the day as well.

Well, the end of the season is here in what has been a bit of a more standard year although unusual in some parts thanks to a couple of lockdowns. Two teams will enter the games on Saturday but only one will emerge as the premiers for 2021. Across all three grades there looks to be some super matches on the day and hopefully we'll see some great footy on the day, a bumper crowd while hopefully those showers will keep away on Saturday. Happy tipping!!

Season 2021 has wrapped up for the year which brings us to the end of the BigFooty WAFL Finals Tipping Competition. Grand Final Day produced some mixed results this year with the Colts and Reserves' matches being rather entertaining contests while the League match produced a solid first half.

The Reserves' Grand Final started the day with Perth taking on Subiaco on Saturday morning. The Demons got off to the better start in the opening term, kicking two goals to one to hold an eight point lead at quarter time. Subiaco fought back in the second quarter however with three straight goals to Perth's 1.3 seeing the Lions hold a slender one point lead at the main break in part thanks to Perth's errant kicking in front of goal. The Demons made up for it in the third stanza though, kicking three goals to the Lions' one which gave Perth a 12 point lead with one term to play. An early goal to Perth saw the lead out to 19 points at the four and a half minute mark but Subiaco would dominate general play for the remainder of the match with the ball spending the majority of the term in their forward half. Despite that, Subiaco kicked 1.7 for the term with several shots on goal missing as the Demons held on to win by six points. Perth's win was the club's first premiership this century having not won a flag since their Colts' premiership in 1999 while it was their 13th Reserves' premiership overall and their first flag in this grade since 1996. Conor McPartland claimed the Merv McIntosh Medal for best on ground with 18 disposals and 11 tackles to cap off a great start to the day for the Dees.

The Colts were up next with Claremont facing Swan Districts in an early afternoon bouncedown. The match got off to a quick start with Claremont's Jacob Van Rooyen booting two early goals for the Tigers before Swans hit back a few minutes later with their first goal. It was the Tigers who had the better of the term though, taking a nine point lead into quarter time, 4.1 to 2.4. The second term saw the pendulum swing Swan Districts' way as Swans had the better of the term, kicking four goals for the quarter and having the better of general play. Claremont were kept goalless for the vast majority of the term until the last minute where a late goal cut Swans' lead to 11 points at the main break. The third term saw another momentum change with Claremont getting on top of the contest with back-to-back goals to Angus Sheldrick in the middle of the quarter gifting Claremont the lead by seven points before a late Jacob Van Rooyen goal with under a minute to play saw the Tigers take an eight point lead into the final change after Swans had goaled a few minutes beforehand. The last term was a classic with both clubs enjoying an equal run of play and hitting the scoreboard regularly as the lead switched hands several times during the quarter in what was a very entertaining last term. However, a goal at the 21 and a half minute mark to Tyrell Metcalf put Swans up by eight points and they managed to hold on in the final few minutes to win by that margin. The win was Swan Districts' eighth flag in the Colts competition and their first in this grade since 2014. Bailey Jenkin claimed the Mel Whinnen Medal for best on ground with his two last quarter goals proving crucial in Swans winning the contest along with his tally of 14 disposals and eight tackles.

The League Grand Final was the main event of the day with a mid afternoon start as Subiaco locked horns with South Fremantle in what was the biggest crowd (29,879) for almost 20 years. Subiaco started the match well, kicking the opening two goals of the game thanks to Michael Braut and Harry Marsh but South Fremantle had the better of the opening term with the Bulldogs dominating general play and keeping the ball inside their forward half for most of the term. The Bulldogs didn't have much to show for it though until a late goal to Mason Shaw saw the Dogs kick their opening goal of the match and go into quarter time down by four points. The second term was much the same, Subiaco scored an early goal but South Fremantle looked the goods, repeatedly keeping the ball in their forward half courtesy of a dominant midfield and claimed the lead midway through the term via a goal from Travis Abbott. The Lions then kicked into gear after that, kicking two late goals to hold a nine point lead at half time despite Souths having more of the play to that point. The third term was in stark contrast to the first half as Subiaco took complete control of the contest, aided by back-to-back goals to Greg Clark to put his stamp on the match after helping keep Subiaco in the game during the first half. Subiaco booted a total of 4.2 for the term and kept the Bulldogs scoreless to hold a 35 point lead at three quarter time. Any chance the Bulldogs had of fighting back in the last term was put to bed as Bailey Matera kicked his first goal of the game to give the Lions a 41 point lead early in the last quarter, putting the contest to bed. In the end, the Lions ran out 44 point winners claiming their 16th League flag, their first since 2019 and their fifth premiership in eight seasons. Greg Clark was named the Simpson Medallist as best on ground while Harry Marsh, Wil Hickmott, Angus Dewar and Jordan Lockyer were best for the Lions while youngster Toby McQuilkin was Souths' best with Tom Blechynden, George Wessels, Glenn Byron and Brock Higgins also leading the way for the Bulldogs.

From a tipping perspective, there was a wide range of results with scores ranging from zero to three for the round, samFFC and hansie tipped the card on Saturday to lead the pack with a few scores of two in there as well. Both bonus points were claimed by andana this week which saw him score a total of four for the day.

With the finals now finished, the winner of the BigFooty WAFL Finals Tipping Competition is andana who has claimed victory on 14 points and has won back to back BigFooty WAFL Finals Tipping Competitions, congratulations on winning the finals tipping competition for the second season running. In second place was samFFC on 13 points while Freezin claimed third place with a score of 12 points, well done to both for claiming a spot on the podium.

Well, that concludes the BigFooty WAFL Tipping Competition and finals tipping competition for 2021. Thanks once again to everyone for participating this year and I hope you have enjoyed being part of the competition in 2021. Thanks also to Chief and the team here at BigFooty for supporting the WAFL Tipping Competition during 2021, it was great to have them on board for another season this year and their continued support of this competition is very much appreciated.
