Looks like he’s cost his team any chance at a medal because the British rider got up and finished the race while he stormed off so GB won and get through and Danes didn’t post a time so don’t even get a shot at Bronze

I did have a thought at the time that it might be a good idea to get back on the bike and finish the race atleast.

Don't need these mickey mouse events at the Olympics.
Why? What makes it less significant than long jump, high jump, javelin etc?

Mickey mouse events are the ones that have arbitrary judges decide who they think should win based on nothing but opinion.

At least sports climbing has clear definable victory conditions.

People move on and so do sports
 
It's a mickey mouse event.

That's why.
It arguably takes more athleticism, skill and strength, just to name a few, than some of the other sports I listed.

But nevertheless, each to their own.
