Haley mightn't be a serious candidate but as a protest candidate she's actually quite effective, and 40% of Republicans saying no to Trump is probably a bit of a concern for him, and seems reminiscent of Hillary's poor performances against Bernie even after she'd effectively won in 2016.

Could be likely there is a cohort in the GOP that believes if Donald wins, the party will be lost to the MAGA forever. Having Haley play spoiler increases the chance they may be able to salvage the party long term.

Not sure how accurate or valid this is once people step into the actual polling booth but up to 60% of Haley voters won't vote Trump

Biden might not be popular but trump isn't winning with only 40% of independents and this will continue to go down as main stream america tune into the campaign and he is constantly sitting in a court room

and his "base" is getting lower and lower

The big question is how many of those 40% of independents who prefer Haley to Trump would prefer Biden to Trump... it certainly won't be all and possibly not even most of them.

The bigger question is ultimately how those numbers look in the states that will actually decide the election (Michigan, Illinois, Pennsylvania, and Wisconsin along with Arizona, Nevada, and Georgia..... needle on other states has room to move but almost certainly won't move enough to swing over given the strong leans and fact that it's basically a repeat of 2020 so shouldn't expect any large shifts because after all not that much has changed).

Agree with all in bold, the one im most concerned about is Michigan with its huge Palestine population in Detroit.

needs a 150k vote swing to go back to trump, good thing the Local GOP has gone broke there

it all will come down to turn out, any malaise from the Democrats and its over.

We'll see on Wednesday with the primary, I guess, as it's where the most elected members of Congress have endorsed the vote for "Uncommitted" (as well, surprisingly, as Beto O'Rourke in Texas). If it's going to make an impact in any of the primaries so far it'll be this one - and if it isn't then everyone can stop thinking it won't be Biden.

the whole world has been waiting for some counter moves.
There were Cheney, Kinzinger, Christie and some others going lone wolf against the MAGA-GOP, but no group efforts. They are now responsible for the situation. They cannot claim to be 'freedom fighters' against the Trumpers. They are wusses, doing mean girl whispers in the girls' restroom. But watch them sleaze out to the slime if and when the MAGAs are overturned.

Pop superstar Taylor Swift has urged fans to vote today in her home state of Tennessee, as well as other states and territories.

“I wanted to remind you guys to vote the people who most represent YOU into power. If you haven’t already, make a plan to vote today,’” Swift said in a post on her Instagram account, which has 282 million followers.

In September, when Swift urged fans to register to vote, the nonpartisan, nonprofit organisation she directed them to, Vote.org, reported a surge of more than 35,000 registrations.

Swift publicly endorsed Joe Biden in 2020, but in her post overnight she did not endorse any candidate.

might upset trumpy as young people tend to vote democrats

Ooof

Que another round of US conservative brains melting in 3.. 2.. 1..

Given Haley has 10%-30% of the vote in some states and a high number of those that voted for her say they will not vote for Trump, think he may be in trouble if the Democrats can get their act together and make sure that those that voted for Biden do so again.

Biden cannot afford to lose many votes or for supporters to stay at home as it will nullify Haley supporters that won't vote for Trump.

If that happens then that margin will be even bigger. Trump has only lost voters, if there is a healthy turnout, Biden or whoever SHOULD do very well.
But I am not optimistic or assured when it comes to American voters.

I just wish Biden would do the right thing & retire. If the democrats had a half decent young ticket they could thrash Trump. Feel like everything is setup for the crazy orange man to win again & God help us all.

Same could be said for the GOP, if they put up a decent young candidate they’d possibly beat Biden. It’s Trumps party now though, theyve lost control. Ds don’t really have any great young candidates, I don’t see Trump beating Biden despite what current polls say. It’s far too early, and as I’ve said before once he earns the nomination he’ll be back in the mainstream spotlight and regular voters (both dem and republican) will remember the chaos and why they won’t him back, which will get them out. Dems will start going hard with the abortion ban. Economy is starting to go well now too. there’s no way he’ll come close to his vote tally from 2020, when he lost. (The caveat concern is GOP gerrymandering and voter suppression techniques.)

They don't need a 'great' one though. 'Generic democrat' still thumping Trump in polling.

Hell of a dice roll Biden is taking here.

Exactly. Just once I'd like to see one of these careerist pollies do the right thing because it's the right thing. Its obvious from afar that people don't want to vote for Biden because he's too old or at least seen that way.

If they'd announced a year ago a fresh faced leadership with someone who could talk in an intelligent and engaging way & put a spotlight on just how F'd up and crazy the current GOP party has become they would romp it in.

Instead Biden is just like any other Pol, once they get their hands on the tiller you have to pry their dead fingers off.
I suppose it's the same here, guys like Howard that anyone could see was going down in flames once he got on the nose with the electorate, or Morrison more recently. They would rather inflict generational wipeout of their parties than give someone else a go. Bunch of entitled toddlers.
