PORT ADELAIDE has promoted its Head of Sports Science and Conditioning, Stuart Graham to fill the role left with the impending departure of its Head of High Performance Ian McKeown.

Graham will take on the title of Head of Physical Performance as part of a revised structure in the High Performance Department.

His role will include sports science as well as conditioning and athletic development.

Graham started with Port Adelaide in 2012 as a Sports Scientist, working his way into the role of Head of Sports Science in 2014.

So given this is a "restructure" does this effectively mean we are just not replacing Graham's position and we are one man down in High Performance?

I'm not sure how I feel about that....

The old 'exhaustive search but the best candidate was in our backyard'.

Nah in all seriousness happy with this, promoting McKeown when Burgess left worked well so hopefully this is just a continuation of a well performing part of the club.

Nothing wrong with this as we are going well.

Fantastic news. Stu was one of the first employed by Burgo, was the first PHD candidate under the Burgo Academy set up, and has been Mackers 2IC since mid 2017.

BrockBlitz you have done some work with Stu, maybe you can fill in some gaps for people.

From the club's article

Current title - Head of Sports Science and Conditioning,
Mackers' title - Head of High Performance

New title - Head of Physical Performance as part of a revised structure in the High Performance Department.
His role will include sports science as well as conditioning and athletic development.

Sports Scientist, to Head of Sports Science, to Head of Sports Science and Conditioning, to
Head of Physical Performance.

The club’s Head of Medical Services, Tim O’Leary, will also take on additional responsibility as part of the revised departmental structure.

Very happy with that.

Our fitness program looks spot on, and we've added some talent in the weights program over the last few years.

Would like to get someone new in at the next level, maybe another strength coach with some slightly different but complementary ideas for combining aerobic and strength conditioning. .

Congratulations 2 names, hope both Stuart and Graham help our club achieve the ultimate success.
Impressive to see some fruition to the aspirations set forth by the club finally pay off. 2nd internal appointment since his Holiness departed. Full faith with the powers that be on this appointment.
Clearly the ripple effect of covid is playing apart in the restructuring process. Let’s hope it’s industry wide and not just local.

So long as we get another quality candidate in as 2IC so we can continue to develop and maintain or current knowledge.

You would think Daniel Buberis who was in charge of recovery and rehabilitation before Covid cuts would surely be in the mix. Currently in charge of Glenelg at the moment.

Poor old Birdbrain. He's been unheard of since the crows put his head on a pike for the camp.

Mind you he was appointed to head of football straight from their high performance role which seemed an odd grounding.

Look out Burgo!

Didn’t he get a job at some school?
