So what the solution Berty? Do we give them 50 points to play with over the next year or two as Reservoir and Lalor have been given this year.

The reason why points have become a challenge for West H this year looks to be two-fold:

  • 8-9 blokes, who were on lower points and quality players, departed the club
  • The under 19's JV with Banyule from last year has not continued or pushed through many kids this year.

Not sure of any of the reasons that happening this year, but when you lose players on low points and have to try and replace them with players on higher points it is challenging that's for sure. Good luck to West and I hope they can find a way through a tough situation.
I heard that west were offered tenancy of the magnificent Ford Park some years ago and rejected it. This would have been a chance to get away from Heid and Banyule and to form a junior base. The status quo means they will remain what they are .

I reckon this was 10 years ago.

West have lost some important players who were obviously fairly committed to the exiting coach. 90% of those players were players recruited from outside, like all clubs the challenge the they will always face is retaining recruits while maximising the opportunity to bring in talent where they can.

They missed finals on percentage last year on the back of retaining core players over 3-4 years and being able to add a few top ups each year.

They don’t have juniors so will always be faced with these challenges as will clubs with limited to no juniors such as PH, turtles, reservoir, Lalor, stars etc.

Having no juniors, and working within the same points cap, would make it incredibly difficult to be competitive consistently. I do not envy the folk at HW.

Lalor will rely on getting up the ladder and Divisions via the proposed creation of the Sporting Club ($$$) with the Club next to them

What’s in it for the bowls club? Donate pokies money to buy players?

Anyone that has been to Club Noble will see how it should be run.

The best leg up any football club has is amalgamation with 6 other sporting clubs all using their gaming (when you can smack a $20 into the pokies 7 meters from the boundary line it's an impressive set up) and 7 day a week bar and bistro. It's such an impressive set up every time I go there I wonder how it could be done at other grounds and clubs.

If Lalor can organise an amalgamation and get something happening like Club Noble the sky is the limit.

Correct me if I’m wrong. But are clubs now banned from taking money from pokies venues?
I know it’s impossible to track if its cash. But just thought that rule came in.

Was actually at Club Noble today for reasons not relevant here. I can assure you the pokies were going gangbusters.

I think what you mean is certain greeny councils that want to ban a totally legal activity (not getting into the morals of pokies, some like em some dont) unless you are a casino or Matheson type. Far be it for local clubs to get some green. The NP issue was they owned interest in gaming and their greeny council said they could not or they would not rent them the ground. They never had any at the ground at all.

To be honest if every club was set up like Club Noble and no rich prick(s) or casino existed, I am sure local sports would not have any financial issues. They remain a Non-Profit organisation where all money is invested in the Club, facilities and community.....not some Portsea mansion.

Just my opinion.

I don’t think so. Plenty are sponsored by Pubs or RSLs with pokies..

Correct, and that cannot be stopped, totally different to NP issues where their council did not want them to own them.

We are screwed if the lefty w***ers stop clubs getting sponsorship from pubs and RSLs etc. Next they will stop service stations due to petrol, car yards that dont sell EVs etc etc etc.
