Society/Culture Elon Musk - Takeover of Twitter?

I'm sure everyone here agrees kiddie pr0n is not acceptable anywhere. It's not an apples v apples argument.
The point is, as a society we tend to have made lines that are acceptable and not acceptable.

I don't like kiddie pr0n, it doesnt effect me, other people like it.

i still don't think it should be up on twitter.

The reasons I've watched violent cartel videos don't include having a fetish for violence or any sympathy towards the aggressors. Part of it is wanting to know what's really happening in the world - a vision of reality that a news article can't provide. I don't believe anyone is hurt when that material is posted online (which differentiates it from child pr0n) - no more than violent movies or video games anyway.
Yes, but you don't get that straight off twitter do you.

You have to go looking for it, I wouldnt expect it on twitter.
I'll give myself a small break from this thread so I don't end up going around in circles.
to he fair, you probably get the same questions from different users so I cant really blame you.

Why do you put video of a violent crime in the same category as art?
do you remember this controversy?

Would these pictures be allowed on twitter ? It was controversial at the time.

Edit - sorry your post made me think of this event, wasn't an attack on your post. Just got me thinking about what as a society we do and do not accept.

Does anyone defending Musk's position on this think Twitter is actually a safe place for teens who can sign up and see videos os stabbings because free speech?

Do they think the video of the stabbing is being shared because of public interest vs as a tool to radicalise people?
The government shouldn’t be regulating what we see on the internet. It’ll start with this and just continue until we are like China.

I'd like to see us regulate 'influencer culture' out like China have tbf

Their tiktok is science and achievement. Western tiktok is just thots, gym culture, and influencer rubbish. Get rid

So people should be able to post anything they want online regardless of what it is?

* knows, genie out the bottle now so probably can't but FB, X, TikTok should be deleted from the internet for good with their owners tarred, feathered then shot out of cannons at the sun
A lot comes down to parents and them educating their kids. Anyone who idolises “influencers” is moronic. I would certainty be happy to see them disappear

What makes the X so different to every other part of society that has certain limitations placed on it?
The internet is a unique environment where people can access information freely. X still has limitations.

Would you be happy if the government blocked negative Facebook articles about their party?

I don’t see how a video of someone being stabbed shouldn’t be allowed for free viewing.

There will always be some limitations such as child pornography of course. But for the most part the goverment shouldn’t be telling us what is and isn’t allowed.
Oh so we've moved from governments shouldn't set rules to governments should only set rules you personally agree with

We should be very skeptical about the government having free rein about telling us what we are and aren’t allowed to view online.

It’s a free information platform that should be left that way for the most part

Age restrictions needed for a start
Secondly, no stabbing should just be readily free to see that easily. Just scroll through and there's a guy being stabbed? No thanks

I agree with your points about not having some moron politician what we can and can't see but there are still limits the other way

Absolute there are limits. Allow filters like googles safe search or even better delete X.

But as seen time and time again it starts off “we won’t allow stabbings” oh also we won’t allow this and that… before you know it you’ll be restricted to certain websites. Anti political content will be removed at will and they’ll dictate everything we see

I pray to God Dutton wins the next election. I'd cut my own arm off before voting for him myself but it will be wonderful coming back to this thread to see the censorship lovers suddenly melting "fascism nazi bigot censor!!" once we have our own great firewall of China

It scares me to say this but the only person who’s making any sense on this is Pauline Hanson.

It’s beyond belief anyone thinks the government in this country could be trusted to censor the internet and not take advantage for their political gain.

love how people think the last defence against a slide into fascism is allowing a video of someone being stabbed to stay online lol

I think a lot of people overestimate the influence parents have on their kids, especially when it comes to social media technology.

That’s a very narrow take on a broad issue.

Are you really happy for a government offical “eSafety Commissioner” to tell you what you can and can’t watch?

If there is a video that hurt the current in power political party would you be ok with the “eSafety Commissioner” removing them?

James Patterson and his one man war on TikTok seems to have gone largely unnoticed throughout this hoo hah, the censorship of an entire platform would seem a little more concerning than a request to move less than a hundred posts.
