Conspiracy, or the need to conspire is an ingrained part of the human social psyche and a common group or herd behavior. Various groups, from governments, businesses, intelligence agencies, all the way down to regular joes conspire to achieve certain ends, all the time.
The thing is, larger "conspiracy theories", which have been proven true are in present tense usually just viewed as historical facts. At the time these ideas may have appeared shocking, unlikely, or the realm of dark rumor, but with the benefit of hindsight they seem sometimes even mundane when compared to the greater legacy of human mischief and trouble.
This is not to say we should suspend critical thinking, but healthy scepticism should run both ways. Governments, large corporate interest and military organisations have proven to be inherently untrustworthy in the past, which is probably a product of any large and overt concentration of power. That old adage about power corrupting, or evil coming from the exercising of power without consequence.
Definitely people should be far more vigilant, suspicious and less trusting of authority. People or organisations don't necessarily become more scrupulous, ethical or responsible with greater accumulation of influence or wealth and it is important to remember legitimacy is often an artifice, or a tool, that is as useful at hiding or enabling wrongdoings , as it is productive behavior.
how was northwoods a conspiracy theory that turned out to be true? not only was there no actual "operation" but there was also no "theory" proposed that later turned out to be true.
