Growler played the two's and was very AVERAGE, in what was a very good win.

Taylor was serviceable, Musto played well without starring, and F1 was pretty quiet.
Schoey did a decent job on Miller I hear.

Also, Hooper came in for a bit of praise from coach Bolton as well as Moss.
Taylor and Lowden pairing up well in the ruck.

I was very happy with Morto's job on Bate in the second half, and if Benny Fagan doesn't attract some interest for a rookie spot this year, I'll be very surprised.

All in all a fantastic come from behind win to the boys, made all the better for the way the cards fell around the grounds today.

P.S: I saw you by the bench today Russ, next time I'll come up and have a chat mate.

What about Jayden Hoegel, Cheeseman? This bloke seems to be a goalkicking machine.

To be honest Rudi, I only got there for the second half, and I tended to focus more on our young Hawthorn listed defenders than the regular Box Hill lads, but I'm sure there are others that can tell us a bit about Hoegel.

FWIW: I think Moose Lisle is showing all the right signs and maintaining his intensity, I'd just about wager my third nut that he'll be retained at years end.

I am going for some dinner now but will be back later with some sort of report on the game. Great win by the stangers. I haven't seen the whether change the contest so much as it did out there today. Well done Box Hill you wanted it more

A great win by Box Hill Hawks today against a quality opposition in Casey.

I thought the Hawks were gone at qrt time being down by 4 gls. but some good hard home truths by Brendan Bolton stirred the Hawks to play more accountable footy and slowly worked their way back into the contest to record a good win in trying conditions.

Great game by Shoey who played on Brad Millar, good spoiling and hard running from defence set up numerous attacks.

Also special mentions to Carl Peterson,Rhan Hooper, Matthew Suckling and Moss

Great comeback and win in difficult conditions. I rocked up about 10mins into the 2nd quarter straight from the airport. I also thought it was a solid team effort after half time.

When I arrived it was 'summer like' conditions- sunshine, little wind and very pleasant . An hour or so later it was darker than a dog's guts with hail and the lights on (can anyone recall the lights being used for a game before?) Four seasons in one day and our footy probably mirrored that in a way!

Could have just bowed our heads at half time but we didn't- credit to the boys for fighting it out, playing with spirit in trying conditions and digging deep.

Thanks to those who have posted reports- not easy to tell who was who in the mud!

Cats will get Pick 1 for Ablett

Hawks will get Pick 2,3 & 4 for Growler:thumbsu:
Knowing how well the AFL have set up the system of compensating teams for losses, we'd more likely to get pick.234 for Dowler. ;)

I also arrived sometime during the second qtr, so didn’t see how Casey kicked their early goals.

Thankfully, the rain arrived in the third term and Box Hill was the team to adapt better to the conditions. Before that, it seemed to be your typical modern game style of zoning and moving forwards up the field. Box Hill didn’t look switched on, was just guarding space and providing little resistance. The exception being Cam Pederson, who was crunching bodies left, right and centre. Great competitor.

The rain brought a more accountable, close-checking style, and Box Hill showed better control over the slippery ball.

Rhan Hooper – appears to be set for Hawthorn next week, played out the four quarters and didn’t look to be holding back at all.

Schoenmakers – solid game on Brad Miller, provided a good contest

Moss – becoming a wet weather specialist, these conditions suit.

Carl Peterson - took his regulation sky-high pack mark, always worth the price of admission. And he took it right at the end of the game from a Casey kick-in, a very timely possession.

Lisle – played forward, was shifted down back right at the end when Box Hill moved numbers behind the ball to protect their lead. Went up with the pack and got in a huge punch to the ball in defense when Casey bombed it in long. Another important moment in those last minutes.

Shane Savage – hmm, was track-suited up, sitting on the bench. Not sure what his injury is.

Box Hill Hawks Vs Casey 1st of August 2010

As forseen by many posters on here Beau Dowler played in the twos today and didn't offer much i think i heard he didn't even play out the second half. But i digress...

To set the scene Casey were in terrific form leading in and were in the top 4. Box hill on the other hand just about got over the line over Frankston who had only won 1 game for the year. That being said Box hill were on a winning streak and were in the 8. It promised to be a ripping contest considering Lynden Dunne who kicked 8 last time we played was not playing.

The sun shone in the first quarter and Box Hill had a bright beginning but couldn't convert. Taylor to hooper were the first two center clearances with hooper burning out of the middle to kick it forward. Casey were winning the contested ball and were spreading and running a lot better than us.

Shiels started on tengrove and they played wide of each other. Tengrove won the quarter and was clearly best on ground and kicked two goals. Shiels had his moments but clearly he needed to be a lot more defensive. Casey cut us up with their leg speed and run and kicked down to their forwards who looked more dangerous.

Box hill had more of the inside 50s in the first but casey were much more effective leaving their forward line open and clogging box hills they killed us on the counter attack mostly with their run through the middle of the ground. Shiels, Taylor, hooper muston and peterson had a fair bit of the ball but didn't use it as well as their casey counterparts. Casey 5 goals to 1 up

The second quarter started with box hill looking to be far more agressive at the contest and at the man. They came out kicked the first few goals. The taylor hooper combination was going strong. Taylor has already had atleast 5 hit outs to advantage. Savage came into the game a bit.

Shiels tightened up on tengrove to limit his influence in the second. One interesting move made by bolton was to put peterson in the bacline and swich suckling into the middle. it paid divdends.

I think the change in momemntum happened when Pedersen went of the ground with an ankle injury and Lisle had to be shifted to defense. Lets just kill the idea of him ever playing in defense. He can not play on an opponent was completely lost. He is great as a lose man but when he has to pick up a forward he just does not have the leg speed.

Box hill then undid all their great work in red time with some really fundamental mistakes in the backline. Casey again ran us on the break and carried the ball Box Hill gifted some goals to casey in the last few minutes with some basic errors and lack of intensity.

Suckling had a great second quarter had a lot of the ball. Lowden and taylor had done a wonderful job in the ruck. Hooper was having a good game along with peterson and muston. Savage came into the game after a quiet first. Tuck was also putting his nose over the ball and providing the
grunt. Schoenmakers was also playing well in defense providing run and drive. Casey up 11 goals to 6 at half time.

The weather was rolling in and was looking ominous Box Hill look to have a lot of ground to make up and the weather was not going to help. In actual fact it worked in Box hill's favour. They came out in the third and really started playing some great wet weather football.

Pederson was back and back in the backline and lisle shifed forward. Moss who hardly got his hands dirty was suddenly the most influential player on the ground. His lack of speed was shown up casey earlier in the game was no longer an advantage.

Moss is a very smart player and this was his kind of game now. Peterson and Schoenmakers were doing very well down back. Moss was being helped by suckling and tuck. Suckling was continuing his form in the second. The game was really scrappy as could be expected and it looked like and under 13s game.

This worked into Box Hill's favour as Casey couldn't use what had been their weapon through the first half. There were no fast breaks and no switches of play just a hard slog and Box hill clearly playing better.

Our rucks both taylor and young Lowden had significant impacts on the game. Especially young Lowden he was using his body acting as an extra mid throwing himself at the contest. He had put soo much in that when he rotated off the ground he could hardly make it to the bench sucking in the big ones. it drew a few chuckles from the box hill supporters beside me, but i for one was clapping him onto the bench he had done a ben cousins left nothing out there kudos to you young lowden.

Box hill dominated the quarter and kicked 3 goals to nothing to cut the margin. Casey still up 11 goals to 9

The final quarter saw a similar game pattern a hard slog in the mud and rain. Gary moss was now turning into the match winner. He along with peterson schoenmakers hooper suckling and muston were continually winning contests and pumping the ball forward any which way they could.

Our rucks of taylor and lowden were dominating that hard contest and box hill through sheer will and determination and bit of class from Moss kicked 4 goals 1 in the last to win the contest.

They wanted it more and were hungrier. It was a great comeback win against a tough top 4 opponent. Kudos must go to Brendan Bolton as the coach. His move of peterson to the backline and suckling to the middle changed the game. Well done to the Box Hill hawks great deserved 11 point winners in the end.

A dirty old day but I was on the free gas at the Presidents Lunch. Dicker spoke. A great man indeed.

Damn fine win considering our first quarter where we were smashed. Bolton got them into a big-arms linked huddle at the break and that love got us over the line.

Tails and Lowden did very well. Tails pretty much won us the game in the last with his strength. He ran the game out very well.

Hoops played a fair bit on the ball. He sort of blistered in and out, he was handy at the clearances.

Morton took on Bates and held him after quarter time. He did what was asked of him.
Schoey at FB on Brad Miller. Schoey went alright it was a hard day for the bigger guys due to the wind and rain.
Petersen was off a HBF and was moving well.

Mossy was sensational in the last. Bruest floated in and out as permanent forwards do, he always looks classy. Stokes was very good. Lisle played mainly FF then he had a run at FB when they had a bit of a run on. He looks better up forward.

Sav hardly noticed him. Sucko did his usual bits and pieces - does not do enough.

Tucky was on the ball and again very strong in the last.

Saw a bit of the early game. Growler was playing on a wing. He got injured in the third and did not play the last Q. Duryea, Williams, Johnstone looked unremarkable. Grimley ran the game out OK, his ruck work did not look flash.
