Under Age 2026 AFL Draft General Discussion

Cooper Hodge looks to be certain to be drafted but whether he chooses Hawthorn or Brisbane

Not sure about that, obviously had a good carnival and the bloodlines are good. However, he is far from a standout player in his age group in QLD club footy. While footy up here is improving, most kids that go on to be drafted are absolutely dominant at 15, many already playing or close to senior footy. (exception to that are key position players)

Yeah saying certain is a pretty big stretch haha.
He’s atleast showing signs he could be drafted but still early days

Ben Crawford I just added because he is a F/S and I think he’s that year but not sure and not sure how good he is either

Ben mum via her flat out mum media page, reckons out of her 4 boys. Ben is the most likely to play AFL footy. Fingers x

Anyone seem much of Sam Harris - North F/S
Not F/S but the old man (Daniel Harris) was also an inaugural Gold Coast Sun. Doubt Sam feels any connection to the Suns though.

Ben Crawford son of Shane potentially?
He's a member of the Suns academy due to the Crawfords living in the Northern Rivers these day, but Ben did not gain selection for the U15 QLD team this year. He might get his chance next year with the Suns U16 academy team competing in the national championships.

The last U15’s boys championships for a primarily pre Tasmania crop ever.

Next year, it’s time to zero in on potential Tassie targets.

Though, there might be a few 19 year olds in 2027 who’ll be signed up.
Might need to condition everyone to a father-son going at pick 1 that year. Koby Bewick is something special

A trend here from a WA perspective.

Subiaco have had the leading forward/goalkicker in the last 4 years of state/futures. Ok, fair call, the 2024 futures haven't happened yet. But!

2021-Koltyn Tholstrup (Newtown-Condingup-Near Esperance)
2022-Koopa Walsh (Newtown-Condingup-Near Esperance)
2023-Darcy Montgomery (Wanneroo JFC)
2024-Thatcher Simmons (North Beach JFC) (Leading goal kicker of all Australian states in national 15's)

Really strange how one WAFL club is producing goal kickers. They can't find a defender to save their lives though.

Bewick vs Murray vs Taylor vs Tyrrell vs Rodan vs Boothey.

Look forward to this Elimination Chamber match.

Darcy Montgomery is such a benign name when pitted against the others.

And he's probably the most mercurial/eccentric one of the lot. Remembering Tholstrup is in the list. Montgomery is a bit of a sensation by WAFL colts standards. (and a bit out there)

I watched a live stream of VC vs WA last month or June.

For someone who seems a deadeye dick, Montgomery has the same runup of uncertainty as Eric Hipwood does.

Kicks the goals but seems nervous beforehand all the time.

Yeah very true...he has a strange kicking technique...his whole shape is totally left-sided...six goals v Vic Country for a WA kid though is kinda cool!

I’ve had a focus on a certain area which hasn’t come up with many so it’s hard to say but everything I’ve heard about West has been very good. Toner another one.
Toner was impressive at the schoolboys championship. Very strong and can play forward and midfield, probably a Jake Stringer type

Riley Hay was captain of WA for the school boys, he’s a medium size defender that looks almost certain to captain Subi futures this year. Not sure there’s many others worth noting though

Looks older than his age.

Looks about 30yo.

Actually in the Subi futures games I saw this year, Max McCullough and Jimmy Aylmore seemed like promising tall-ish defenders, so maybe they can make the step up.

Add the Hodge and Crawford situations to the Blakey situation as another disgraceful manipulation of the Northern Academies.

The Northern Academies were first born as a way of fostering talent from other codes in the Northern States. The key defence of the Northern Club fans like brizfool has always been players like Isaac Heeney being lost to RL.
