Hopefully the zebras are more united this year. I’m surprised their basket case status isn’t getting some of the blame for our perceived slow player development.

I just hope we play the guys in the positions they’ll play in the seniors

KEY RECRUITS

Brede Seccull (from South Adelaide): “Brede is a tough inside midfielder and can potentially have an impact up forward. We like his grunt and his leadership has been exceptional. Brede has been playing under Garry Hocking’s coaching in the SANFL.”

Tom Lamb (West Coast AFL): “Tom was on West Coast’s list for three years (for one AFL game), so we’re lucky to get his signature. He’s a wingman/forward who clearly has the athletic ability and we think he has a lot of AFL attributes. He knows AFL defensive systems and he’s bought into our system really well.”

Hayden McLean (Sandringham Dragons): “Hayden will play forward and he can jump into the ruck too. He captained the Dragons in 2017 so he has leadership qualities, and he moves really well for a big guy. By all reports he was reasonably unlucky not to get drafted last year.”

PRE-SEASON PERFORMER

Kade Answerth: “Kade hasn’t missed a beat this pre-season and this time last year he wasn’t up and running (but went on to win Sandringham’s best-and-fairest). He’s such a pro in how he goes about things and he’s certainly got the potential to take his game to another level.”

LEADERSHIP MATERIAL

“I’d think the likes of Kade Answerth, Myke Cook, Jack Noone, Dylan Weickhardt and Brede Seccull will form the basis of our leadership group. We have a strong leadership core and they’re very capable of setting the standards.”

BREAK-OUT CANDIDATE

Beau Bailey: “Beau is a small forward and we like what he can give us. He got limited chances last year (four senior games) in his first season at the club, but you just want guys like Beau to come in and play a part for us when it’s their turn. He’ll certainly play his part at some stage.”

Hayden McLean should be a decent signing for Sandy.

All them losses are huge..every single one of them...will heavily rely on the Saints guys this year.

I remember a mate talking about Brede Seccull, he's supposed to be a very good player at SANFL level and this guy suggested he might even be good enough to be on an AFL list but missed the boat.

Sandringham (VFL)

Coach Aaron Hamill

2017 The Zebras were disappointing last year, finishing 11th out of 14 teams.

System St Kilda is allowed as many senior players lining up for the Zebras as it wants. With Hamill part of the Saints system, the club has control over on-field strategy. St Kilda assistant coach Adam Skrobalak is the head coach at the Frankston Dolphins, and the two clubs have an arrangement that will allow rookie big man Lewis Pierce to play at the Dolphins. That will ensure he can spend time in the ruck and up forward, rather than in defence as happened at times last year in a Sandringham side that had other talls in his preferred positions.

History This alignment has been in place since 2009, but it was only since last year that the Saints could field as many senior-listed players as they wanted. In 2001, the Saints linked with Springvale, which moved to Casey in 2006. – Dinny Navaratnam

Interesting bit of news with regards to Lewis Pierce. Not sure what it means for him but very happy with that rather than the back log of ruckman.
Will definitely help the other 3 not having to give up time for each other quite as much.
