"Nobody can win or lose a #AFLDraft - but I think Charlie Constable is going to make a lot of recruiters look silly in the future. Geelong have a steal with Pick 36." Matt Balmer AFL Draft Central, who had him at #6 :rainbow:

Balmer also said Constable is versatile, with a good footy brain + said this about his outstanding performance in July against Bendigo Pioneers:
"
Midfielder Charlie Constable was one of the clear standouts for the Sandringham Dragons in their win over the Bendigo Pioneers on Saturday, earning him AFL Draft Central’s TAC Cup Player of the Round.

Constable had an equal match-high 29 disposals spending most of the game in the midfield, dominating from the first ball-up.

The 190cm midfielder was everywhere in the opening 10 minutes, with multiple clearances in quick succession in the contest with 12 of his disposals coming in the first quarter.

He registered a game-high 11 clearances, equalling Oakleigh Chargers midfielder Jack Higgins for the round, who also had 11 in their big win over GWV Rebels. Constable also took seven marks and 14 of his possessions were in contested situations.

Constable booted three goals for the day, including slotting a set shot in the final quarter to put their result beyond doubt. Whilst he wasn’t as clean as he showed in the NAB AFL Under 18 Championships for Vic Metro, he was the star on the ground and has had a great year at all levels."

"Sandringham Dragons Charlie Constable is a pure footballer who is like Patrick Cripps."

Balmer also said Constable is an excellent set shot at goal, kicks more goals than he misses; has played through the Ruck to KPD; best position is coming out of the goal square, with a good set shot routine; has a long kick; good footy brain.
Should already be ahead of Blicavs.

Charlie Constable can play football. Seriously play football.

But he is quicker than Cripps and Bartel were at the same age. I believe Josh Kennedy as well. If he works hard then he will be a great selection. People are making out like he is an absolute basket case athletically which is a bit unfair. He tested better than Rayner!

Wells said it best. If he works really had on his endurance he could have a really great AFL career. Talent wise I find it really really strange that he's being mentioned with JJ or GHS. I can't remember them dominating U/18 champs and being talked about as a top 10ish draft pick during their draft year. I just remember people loving them b/c of their body shape with everyone reaching for those types as it was the flavour of the month game style wise.

I know little about Constable, but something is screaming at me 'Paul Couch': long kick; not conventionally fast, yet could dodge + weave adroitly.

There will be talls next year considering we haven't traded our pick ... but id be conscious that leaving it too long ..may well leave a hole if Hawkins continues to decline.

Is there really any urgency to upgrade now.. Rookies can play. The Rookie list is just about had its time
My concern is we have a few father sons that are mids next year. I don't want to miss on Brownless.

Thought this year was the one to take some punts to find a few.

We have to move three or four on next year to make space too. No easy retirements like Mackie and Lonergan. It's an interesting puzzle.

Not sure what their respective contract statuses are, but there's a number of players on the list who should be moved on soon - GHS, Murdoch, Stanley, Abbott, and McCarthy and Gregson if they can't get themselves fit.

This guy is much faster than GHS and Jansen, he is no rocket, but he is not slow.

This is what I found on him:

One knock some recruiters have on Constable is his speed, although he clocked 3.05 seconds for the 20 metre sprint during pre-season testing – which is by no means poor.

Hearing him speak he appears to have the maturity to know where he’s at. He will need to work hard to improve his endurance but I doubt that will be too much of an issue. I’d be surprised if he plays any more than a couple of games next year if any but hopefully he has a solid year in the VFL getting his conditioning ready for 2019.

Of the draftees I think he’s probably the least likely to have an impact at AFL level in 2018 but I think when he arrives he’ll hopefully be there to stay.
It usually takes kids three years to reach 'elite' AFL level fitness. Sometimes it's preferable to have a good footy brain, instead of a fast one, who fumbles under pressure, or who disposes inaccurately. Kind of like the tortoise + the hare ;)

Agree. It's do or die for some of these boys. Ones we've put some games in too.

Hayball, Cunico, Jones, there's a couple more candidates too.

I'd be hoping for a great VFL performance as that second tier play for their careers.

Really looking forward to playing Geelong's midfield, said no one ever :D

PO he played midfield until the return of Hamish Brayshaw + then was moved back.

His strengths are: foot rebounding from defence; winning clearance contests; contested ball winning; strong I50 mark.

Chook Constable is Mick Malthouse's nephew. Nicknamed Chook by Angus Brayshaw because chicken is his favourite food.

How did he get the 'Copper' nickname on here?
Copper- Constable

Constable Charlie Copper

Miers at 57 is hard to outdo but CC at 36 is even better IMO.

Fogarty at 22 is hard to outdo but CC at 36 is even better.

This guy is a Joel Smithy Corey clone.

He needs the gas tank but is pure class in every other area.

His lack of cardio makes him appear slower as the game goes on.

Big bodied clean hands, accurate disposal by hand and foot, clearance king and is versatile.

He'll play next season IMO.

Should have been a top 15 pick IMO

He would need a lot of injuries to play next year.

As a centre square mid he is competing with Danger, Selwood, Ablett, S.Selwood, Menegola, Blitz as specialist centre square mids and then Duncan, Guthrie, mature age recruit Kelly, Cockatoo and Parfitt that can also go through there so would be at least 12 in line for 3 spots in the middle.

The other 3 draftees can slot in on a half forward flank or forward pocket and much more likely to play next year.

i would of thought a lack of cardio is the one thing that usually prevents kids from playing early. Takes a few years to build that up too.

If he was a pure mid I'd think not but he is more of a utility player at this point.

Constable is physically and mentally ready for AFL IMO

Much more so than most of the picks 1-35.

Cockatoo and Parfitt will be FP/HFF/Wing

Blitz will be wing

Duncan will be wing

Menegola high HFF/centre

Constable might get a run in the BP/HBF/HFF/FP

He can even play the third tall role at either end in a pinch IMO.

I read he did a 13.2 beep test some time ago, from what I know of them that's pretty good.

I want him in the guts that's where he plays, can rotate fwd/back flank.
Gee! .. if Zuthrie can get games!!
