Player Watch #10: Shane Edwards - Retiring at Seasons end

One of my favourite Edwards moments came in his press conference before the 2017 preliminary final when he spoke of his dreaming about winning a flag. It epitomised the vulnerability and authenticity we had cultivated that season. It was a mindset so diametrically opposed to the crows power games and one that broke the shackles for our club and allowed us to play with freedom and creative expression and ultimately led to a truck load of success.

Couldnโ€™t find the press conference but it is detailed here: 'I can't control it': Titch dreams of cup glory

Another highlight was my dog playing briefly with his and Reece concaโ€™s dogs at the dog park.

I also remember watching him line up alongside richo when he first got to the club. He looked tiny and overawed but still managed to think his way through situations and choose the best options back then. He became a freaky magician there for a while and I will miss watching him.

Whispy Watson said on SEN that Robby Gray was a better player.

Media have never understood Edwards. His vision and hands are what we built our game around. He gets the ball and moves it forward like no one has ever done before.
Legend of our club.
No shame in that, Robbie Gray was a star. 4 x AA, Coaches award in 2014, Players team of the decade.

Shedda was and is a legend. But one that only true tigerheads and genuine footy connoisseurs could appreciate.

Some commentators love him. Most are just grunts who talk loudly.

For all that has been said and done today, thank you Shedda
You were the ultimate team player, a crafty playmaker that always gave us a spark, and brough others into the game.
You played an integral part in over 10 years at the club, but most importantly a big game player and always delivered when it mattered most.
The ultimate Richmond man. Best of luck being a dad, and I am sure the tiger army will be behind you every step of the way whatever the future holds for you legend.
Thank you for bringing all of us the joy of 3 premierships, most signigficantly in 2020. The lockdown flag gave us something in what was a terrible year.
Thank you for your service. ๐Ÿ’•๐Ÿ’•๐Ÿ’•

Sad to see him bow out like this rather than at the MCG - but at least it wasn't riding the pine in a sub vest the entire game.

One of our all time greats!

(is someone cutting onions?)

One of my favorite Tigers to wear our great Jumper.
Will miss his Magic moments.
Your a Legend to us all Shedda.
Thank you for Everything.

Farewell, Shedda the magician.

It was a shitty game for your career to finish with, but there you were, rising to the occasion with a massive rundown tackle when the game was on the line and we'll settle for that as a final, appropriate Shedda memory for you to leave us with.

Enjoy retirement, Tiger legend. :thumbsu::richmond:

Would have loved Shedda to stay at the Tigers in an off field role, but good luck to him at his new club.
