Just finished watching the replay and paid particular attention to Binns.
That's not quite how I saw it. He took the short option early but adjusted after half-time. His disposals were effective and tidy.
At VFL level, he looks uncannily like a young(er) Sam Walsh, in his wingman days. He's...
Only saw the last two minutes, but it was a lot wetter than it looked at the ground. Seems that we struggled to adjust to the conditions. Barely took an uncontested mark in the last quarter.
Wonder if Williams is an option in the midfield with Cerra likely to miss a chunk of games. Saad close to a return, and both Boyd and Cincotta doing well down back.
Hewett decent but looking about a bit slow.
Might need to call it quits on Melbourne games for the sake of my health. In tears round 22 last year, shaking after the semi. This one hit me hardest of all, had to sit down for 10 minutes after the siren just to catch my breath.
Not even relief, dunno how to describe after the game. Never...
Cottrell back to half forward with Hollands back in the side might have squeezed Cuners out. Perhaps club thinks he'll benefit from a run in the 2s after a lengthy lay off, especially with Martin coming back in.
Plenty of run up forward between Martin, Cottrell and Eli.
They come out like clockwork because it's been mandated by the AFL. The AFL has made it clear that injury updates are right, not a privilege. Every club now releases their updates by Tuesday evening.
Not a massive deal and I half suspect the club under Cook see it as a leg up to the opposition...
We've gone from weekly video updates from Andrew McKay, to weekly in-depth updates on every player, to semi in-depth updates on some players, to 1 word updates on players returning that week.
Not to mention the very vague updates on players like Fogarty. What does "return to play to be...
I didn't mind Bower as a player. There's been two players that made me question the collective sanity of our supporter base. First was Luke Parks (unlike Young, aggression was there, but similarly had no idea with ball in hand). Second was Young early days, when our supporters insisted he was a...
We as supporters love to focus on the wins and losses, but the requirements of a professional outfit is to put that to one side, determine what's working and what isn't and go to work accordingly.
One of my biggest pet peeves is letting the result determine the response. Criticism after a win...
Voss mentioned we were overpossessing by hand. Instruction seems to have been to play more direct and take the game on. Hewett's comments this morning reaffirm that.
Was fuming at Walsh in particular at the game for burning the first option, but if that was instruction, it completely fell flat.
In this case, it was an outcome of numbers at the footy. They had +2 or +3 more often than not. Was that strategy or effort? Based on Voss's presser, sounds like the former.
That's generally what happens when you get more numbers to the contest. Collingwood often had a +3 at stoppage.
Question is, was it instruction or workrate?
Don't buy the lack of effort argument. Bad structure often manifests as a seeming lack of pressure.
Collingwood's defensive press and their ability to get more numbers to the contest made us look slow and ineffective. We're slow by foot but quick by hand, and when the opposition have +2 at the...
Might go down to provide Durdin moral support. Carry his bags, tie his laces, direct him through traffic. Be an extra pair of eyes and ears for him on the field.
Young as 2nd defender is a very bitter pill to swallow atm.
Don't think that Voss knew where we broke down. Hard to how we'd combat Collingwood's defensive setup.
My thoughts after the game were did we go too defensive, and/or did we train too hard during the week? We looked tired and flat after quarter time. Selection with Young hurt us - at least Kemp...
It wasn't just Hewett. Walsh and Cripps were also incredibly ineffective.
We didn't have free men around the stoppage and struggled to get the ball to the outside. Collingwood outnumbered and out pressured.
Its a really good question. From the ground, thought Collingwood's press was the difference. Was almost a carbon copy of the round 10 game last year. They block all the outlets in an arc around the player, refusing to give us short pass. Forcing us down the line where theyll back Moore to bring...
People underestimating the change to how we bring back players. Seems we're holding back players a week or two to make sure they're fit enough to return and impact. No half done players here.
Not sure I agree regarding Jones. He'd make a material impact on our ability to win a premiership. Can be a bit kamikaze with his approach, but he reads the ball brilliantly, has excellent closing speed and attacks the ball with reckless abandon. He also had great chemistry with Weitering.
