Toast Reasons for Optimism

the weather brings in the unknown for both teams

I think resting Fyfe a bit was sensible
Fyfe having a rest and Darcy coming off to prepare were all positives. Switta back in the side should add some pressure in the forward half as well. I understand the hesitancy this week. But, it is a great opportunity to test ourselves.

Don't know how having an unfit Darcy will work in the rain.
Maybe sub him off early if he is getting toweled. Hate for an injury.

I think it allows him to grind down Grundy and for Jackson to wear him down further. We need him to continue to build fitness and he is influential enough to do that in the first team.

I suppose if the club thinks it is a concern other than building fitness he will be rested. I quite like playing him into form if possible.

Well, we have been saying this for years as Dockers supporters but this puzzle is almost complete and this team is so close to being good enough.

Missing at the start of the year:

Quality Winger - We now have Sharp.
Quality Centre Half Forward - We now have Treacy.
Game Plan - We are taking it on more than last year.
Mundy replacement: We now have Young.
Fyfe replacement: We now have Fyfe.
Depth - Still a question mark, but Voss, Sturt, Erasmus and Brodie not cracking the team regularly tells you we have improved. Likewise the fact we lost Macdonald and Cox in the first game and have still gone ok.

This is like an episode of Star Wars where the rebellion had to build up their stocks before an attack on the death star.
The defence is there. The rucks are there. The midfield is there. We are missing 1, maybe 2, quality goal kicking small forwards. Freddy is good enough, the others are either inconsistent or not goal kickers.

Get together a quality small/medium forward (Shai Bolten?) and we are contending for a premiership next year.

2025 will be our year. Book the bus.

Check round 22, 2022.

In case anyone is wondering what he's like in the wet.

We will win at least 2 of the next 4. I wouldn't be surprised with 3 of the next four.

I think the five games after the bye we will be at best 3 wins 2 losses.

From there I expect us to struggle with fatigue as we finish out the season and play finals.

13-14 wins will be one hell of a season!

Can't wait to see us take it to the Swans this week!

I think I will put a hold on the fatigue component. Early wins allows teams to manage fatigue, so wins in this next block are crucial for that. We've already started to manage the demands on our senior players proactively.

I think our core players are mature enough to get through the whole season.
Jackson could probably do with a week off at some stage.

So you're saying I am not being optimistic enough... 15 wins it is!

I think how good our future is looking is the biggest positive this year.
We had the second youngest and 3rd least experienced afl team playing on the weekend. We have the 4th youngest list which at the start of the season was only roughly 1 month on average older than the average age of the rebuilding West Coast. Our seconds (Peel) just smashed the 4th (at the time of the game) ranked WAFL team by a record amount for Peel with Freo listed players driving the win. We also have a ton of draft currency and salary space for trading at season's end. Just a few positives going on at Freo.

Oh hell make it 16.

Hook it into my veins! This is it... what I have been saying. THE FUTURE IS BRIGHT!

In his interview with 6PR (I think). Chappy talks about playing on Bolton last week. DragoDelph posted the link in the media thread yesterday.

If Draper was able to switch onto him it is a big deal as well.
Watching the game I thought Draper spent most time on him but perhaps Chappy and him switched up more than I thought. Draper also played on Dustin Martin when he was deep forward. Either way Chappy playing well on Bolton is also significant and positive. Chappy's kicking was again fantastic.
