To have a chance at winning a premiership we need the following:
2 of Tabs, Freddy, Fyfe, Treacy, Jackson, Walters, Sturt to kick 40 plus goals.

I would add Shultz to your list as well on his form from last season.

40 goals a season??
Tabs could if he stays fit.
Freddy definitely could.
Shultz definitely could.
Fyfe could if he stays fit

Walters may be saved a little during the season with an eye on finals?

Treacy would need a breakthrough season but has strong pre season form to date.

Sturt in the same category as Treacy.

Jackson could spend too much time around the ground rather than as a forward, so limiting his chances of 40 goals.

So there are eight players who may have the ability to kick 40 goals in a season, with an injury free run and good form two of them could conceivably do it in 2023 🤞

We need to win the next 5 in a row. Sadly I have no confidence we will perform against the best teams with the style of play shown today.

I still have us in the 5th-10th bracket. Anything less than top eight is a big step backwards.
22 games to go....

As I have posted, I hope freo make finals in 2023, even if its 7th or 8th.

Freos finals history needs to be rectified. Ross Lyons 2012-15 period is the only time Freo made back to back finals or finals for 2 years in a row in our whole history from 1995-2022.

I am desperate to see that this season.

That's one horrible record.
If we are not in the 8 this year we are doomed for eternal mediocrity

it isn't a high bar, two or more seasons in the eight on the trot. I hope we make the finals as well, I just haven't bought into the 'our midfield is amongst the best in the league' talk that some are discussing here.

I will be interested to see what they plan on doing with Chapman. It may have been a team wide thing today, but, if we are going to see development this year he needs to be more involved offensively.

It is not great but it could be much worse.

8 years of finals in 28 seasons from 1995-2022 isn't great.

2003, 2006, 2010, 2012-5 and 2022.

Premiership aside, I would trade our round 23, 2014 win vs Port Adelaide for that round 22, 2005 loss to port Adelaide.

Looking back, I wished Freo beat port at that final round in 2005. That would of been back to back finals in 2005-6.

I didn't mind freos 2010-15 finals run. But it would look more nice had it been finals in 2010-11, then miss out on finals in 2012 then finals in 2013-5.

That would of been a 2 year run and another 3 year run.

Again..... I am desperate for back to back finals. My standard's are not high lol

Just Looking at the South Australian sides in Comparison...

Crows came to the AFL in 1991. Made finals in 1993, 1997-8 (both years won flags), 2001-3, 2005-9 (Always loved the Neil Craig coaching era), 2012, 2015-7 (Grand final in 2017) . 15 years of finals from 1991-2017. They have had 6 coaches make at least 1 preliminary final: Graham Cornes (1993), Malcolm Blight (1997-8), Gary Ayres (2002), Neil Craig (2005-6) , Brenton Sanderson (2012) amd Don Pyke (2017)

Port Came into the comp in 1997. Made finals in 1999, 2001-5 (Flag in 2004), 2007 (grand final), 2013-4, 2017, 2020-21. Port Made prelims in 2002-4, 2007, 2014 , 2020-21.

Its Amazing that Port Adelaide want Ken Hinkley gone. Maybe because Port has had higher expectations. Or maybe because of that 2001-5 period where they were good, they are used to winning finals.

But Sepcifically looking at Ports finals record under Coach Ken Hinkley.

2013: 7th spot.
-Beat Collingwood at the MCG
-Lost to geelong at the MCG in a semi final.

2014: 5th spot
-Beat Tigers in an elim final at home
-Beat freo in a semi final in Perth
-Narrow loss to the hawks at the MCG in a prelim final

2015: 9th

2016: 10th

2017: 5th
-Lost to bloody west coast in extra time in an elim final

2018: 10th

2019: 10th

2020: 1st
-Beat the cats in a qualifying final at home
-Lost Narrowly in the prelim final at home to richmond.

2021: 2nd
-Beat Geelong in Qualifying final at home
-thrashed by the bulldogs in a prelim final at home.

So overall 5 wins and 5 losses. Ross Lyons finals record at the Dockers in 2012-15: 4 wins and 5 losses.

I am probably alone on this.... If Justin Longmuir had the exact finals run like Hinkley at Port from 2013-21, I cant complain.

I am probably hopeless at this, Mainly because I am used to seeing freo being crap for most of the times. I think when something good happens at the dockers, we savour it and cling on to it.

Just think of Freos elim finals win last season vs the dogs. We savoured that because we spent 6 years in a row not making finals.

I said this... I would be happy Making finals 10 times out of the next 30 as long as theres a few periods where we make finals for 2 or 3 years in a row. I dont care if we win 5 or 6 finals in a 30 year period.
