Played with nervs but still had a crack and did a few nice things. Keep him in. Looked cooked towards the end so I’d say he’s probably the sub out option but worth letting him find his groove

Do not mind giving him a go but as you mentioned he is a bit gun shy as far as contact goes . He ran up to a lot of blokes and then put the brakes on.
At least his kicking was not totally horrible.

So he's ahead of the guys who try to turn and run the other way.

Forwardline looks so much more effective with the pressure he brings. Just needs some consistent opportunities to play at the level to iron out the nerves and realise he belongs. In a couple of preseasons he'll be gold.

Our forward pocket depth is pretty dire and his tackling efforts left a lot to be desired. But imo he should get an extended run on the proviso that his KPI is providing pressure as he has pace.

Needs some confidence and to back himself, think his disposal can look poor as he’s always looking to hand off the ball rather than take the first and best option. I’m not sure if he’s timid around the ball or just worried about getting in a team mates way it’s the same deal with his disposal, just back ya self

looked like a traffic cone at times. The implied pressure was very good though.

The one tackle at CHF (I think) was what stuck out and made me go, yeah, maybe he can make it

Not in the same stratosphere as far as his old man's speed and tackling but still shows a bit when the opportunity arrises...Nice kick when he's got time...

We do have to keep in mind that his dad debuted at 23 with an AFL ready body whereas Jr has only just turned 20. Still has a lot of learning to do.

One thing I noted was his speed sometimes providing perceived pressure. I though he was ok at times. Not his best game but he gets another go.

TBH….think he should be dropped if we are going to be consistent. Effort and commitment need to be non-negotiable. Tsatas paid the price for some poor efforts, so should ADJ.

if menzie's shoulder keeps him on the sidelines he'll be picked regardless, but i just don't think that dropping someone after a decent performance will help with confidence

I feel like he was very scratchy early but worked into it, makes me think the VFL games at Essendon are a bit toxic to development. Some guys might just need to be at the top level to play well, without gifting games of course...tough balancing act

It’s about the team….not the individual.

If they can’t handle being asked to meet standards then they aren’t long for the AFL world anyway. It’s a tough gig - resilience is a requirement.
