Correct HH. Hopefully people here in the West can organize their local primary school(s), starting, preferably initially joining an existing Primary School competition such as the Altona/Willi/Yarraville friendly Friday morning games.

There is no doubt that the Western Suburbs are witnessing significant population growth, particularly among young immigrants and their children.

Primary school students who currently play only soccer and/or cricket will, in the main play Aussie Rules with their classmates, just for fun on a Friday morning and hopefully get a taste for it. I’m sure that local primary schools would be welcomed, which should eventually lead to the future formation of local competitions.

We must start somewhere and it’s an opportunity that should not be wasted. It also gives the schools an extra string to their bow.

The Aussie Rules programmes in the aforementioned schools are generally run by retired (footballers and workers) who enjoy helping their grandchildren and their friends.

The atmosphere at such games is very friendly as many of the parents, and the opposing participants are friends, many of whom play in the U10s and 12s together.

I‘m not sure, but I think that they play 10 minute quarters, boys and girls mixed.
Absolutely primary school footy on a Friday arvo was always the go, nowadays nothing unless it's a private school.
Hopefully with the interest in girls footy it could return

Local Primary school footy in the inner west (I know) will welcome additional WS schools.
Currently, the competition has a mix of State Primary and Catholic schools, of which the interaction of both parents and students is amazing.
They all seem to know each other.
Players from both competing schools enjoy each other's company when the ball is at the other end of the ground.

It can't be too hard to organize.

PS: Contact me on the secret push. Google it to find out how.

Interesting: -

The VAFA remains a robust recruiting source for the elite pathway, with the exciting news that 100 Ammo players have been signed by VFL clubs for 2025.

Coburg is just behind the Kangas with 10 VAFA signings, while Richmond and Port Melbourne have 9, Williamstown 8, and Carlton 7.

Hopefully, these players will bolster our local VFL clubs.

Wrong thread , who cares about the VAFA

No salary cap yeah right kids go to school for free.
You poor boy. That seems like a degrading jab from someone with a grudge.

What you posted is a very inaccurate statement, Poorboy. Some, but not all, APS schools offer football scholarships. I can list the APS colleges that don't provide your free scholarships.

You name yours, and I'll name mine. Put your pen where your brain is and back up your undignified announcement.

I’m eager to see if you understand what you're talking about.

Yes, I’m sorry; I did post it on the wrong website, and I hope you can accept my apology.

As an aside, Poorboy, would you mind sharing a list of the WFNL players who have been drafted to AFL clubs over the past few years?

Of the VAFA premier clubs that comprise the list you've copy/pasted here. Which do not offer scholarships?
Quite a few players listed have ended up in the comp once they've reached state or talent level, not before..

You forgot to mention the ex AFL players get free schooling for their kids instead of match payments, been happening for years and years.

Ammos don't pay players though haha

There would be at 10-15 drafted from the WRFL in the last few years, pretty good from such a small league

15 current AFL players played their junior football in the WFNL, most notable are Tom Liberatore, Callan Ward, Will Hoskin-Elliott, Logan Morris, Tristan Xerri, Massimo D'Ambrosio, Jake Riccardi, Jordan Boyd plus 11 females playing in the AFLW.

Some drafted directly from the local comp, some had progressed to the VFL.

Pretty impressive list for a small, derided footy league.
