Where to for Petrie?

Drew constantly runs into poor position and in the past 2 years his opponent seems to always move him away from the ball. He leads to early, he leads too late, he runs himself out wide. He works bloody hard to get the ball by running around a lot, without much thought where that actually is. A good forward anticipates the play and makes position based on that knowledge. That is why he would have to be the most outmarked forward in the game. The defence read the flight and simply out think him. And to Benno in particular who says he should play CHB, the same inability will short circuit any attempt to keep a good forward down.

And of course we all make opinions on players as funnily enough that is what a forum is for. We built Drew up after the Carey fiasco and now we have to see whether we were a tad premature. The guy can fix the fact the ball doesn't stick any more and he can also fix the confidence levels, but it will take a lot to fix his football brain which is simply not Power forward material. He is a good 3rd tall though, but with other guys showing good form, the question therefore is which do you choose?

Excellent post Moti, although hardly suprising that you got bagged for it.Alot of North have been unwilling to admit that Petrie is not turning out to be the player they'd hoped.

North Bouy I've always found to be a good poster but he's way off IMO in regards to saying Petrie shouldn't be dropped. He should be dropped immediately and not returned till he can show that he belongs in AFL football.

Time and again last night your midfielders looked up to see Petrie one on one,but still not kick it to him.Harris even got run down because he was waiting for any option other than Drew.I'm sure some of you noticed another incident in the 3rd quarter where Harvey was streaming through the middle, with 2 West coast players bearing down on him.He looked to his right and was just about to pass it when he noticed it was Petrie. He then decided to press on rather than give it to him. They have no confidence in him.And rightly so.I've seen the same thing with Gaspar at Richmond.

Time to face facts.Contunually playing a guy who doesn't deserve to be there does no one any good.

Don't bore me with the "your only a Richmond supporter" replies.I've seen almost every game Petrie has ever played.Alot of them live.Just thought I'd givean unbiased take on him.

*sigh*

As much as I'd hate to say it, but he does need to spend some time with Port Melbourne.

I thought the signs were good in the first quarter, but after giving away that 50m penalty, he did very little. The most frustrating thing is that when the play did go forward, you'd see him on the fringes of the play, but a few steps behind the blokes (usually Eagles players) who got themselves into the right position to win the ball.

Everyone knows Drew is a big unit, but I am starting to think that perhaps he is a bit too big for his own good? I'm not the only person to note this, as sainter (an intelligent saints fan, yes they do exist!) also agreed. Perhaps he is better off shedding a couple of kilos for the benefit of some extra mobility and speed off the blocks?

He isn't carrying fat though so I can't see how he can be any less mobile. He just can't mark for $hit.
