West Coast Eagles Priority Pick (2024)

Could you imagine the furore if Fremantle wasn't allowed to participate in the 1994 or 1995 drafts when you started?
We were allowed to participate in the 1994 or 1995 drafts? Huh.

The self-entitlement is strong with this one.

Go watch the doco they did on the start-up of the West Coast Eagles and learn something

Both Brisbane and us got extra Expansion picks due to the shithouse conditions we got when we entered the comp in 1987. Among that was a smaller list size at start-up compared to the other VFL teams, and not being able to enter the 1986 or 1987 AFL drafts.

We got access to the WAFL only, and that was after likes of Buckenarra, Bewick, etc had been raided in the previous seasons.
That would have been fine if we got access to the entire state in 94 + 95 like WC did in 86 + 87. They weren't in the draft due as you just signed up who ever you wanted from WA for 2 years and then extra concessions until 1991.

That is ancient history, you still have priority picks on your list now who you are paying huge wages to and it's time for more?

A state that had already been raided of the like of Buckenarra, Bewick, Winmar etc
The comp had been cherry picked in the years leading up to our start-up because those players got told the Eagles weren't going ahead and signed for Victorian clubs.

But again, ancient history as you said.

I'm fine with not getting a priority pick, but I don't think similar to what North got last year with a second round pick and a third round pick which we are forced to trade is unreasonable either.

Well yeah, Jeff White pick 1 in 1994 and Clive Waterhouse pick 1 in 1995 amongst your draft hauls for those years

get absolutely ****ed west coast deserve a priority pick.

They won a flag 5 years ago and they chose not to rebuild, but instead piss away draft picks for Tim Kelly who has been a bust. They got greedy and are paying the price for it.

I have full sympathy on how they had to deal with Covid and current injuries issues but their list errors are their own fault.

If they are shit next year then sure give em a PP.

North style PP was fine IMO. Eagles need solid bodies not kids. Same with North.

The day of first rounders is at it's end.

They're the worst team in AFL history, so if they're not getting one it's hard to justify anyone getting one.

But if it does come, it should need to be traded for an established player. You already get rewarded for being shit through draft picks, but the effect of that usually isn't seen for years.

Anyhoo, no priority picks for the Weags.
I agree ... no PP.
One extra young player is not going to have any effect on the football club operations, failures of list management and inept board members.
