Entering the draft with picks 12 and 26 after 10 wins in 3 years is a joke. But after a year where you only had 1 and 30, it quickly becomes a cruel joke.

Richmond are mud for one year and have wangled more first round draft picks to rebuild with than you blokes have had in a decade.

But I’m sure west Australian media will report as some sort of 4d chess play by crazy clarkey and Don Juan Pyke for first likely drafting Bo Allen (probably even hear them say “we rated him as good as anyone available at 3) and supposedly getting Warner next year.

Yes the Eagles gave themselves a worse draft hand with the trade, but I thought they drafted quite well in the end. Allan was reportedly being considered by multiple higher clubs and presents zero flight risk. Shanahan might have been the biggest steal of the draft, and Gross and Davis were rated much higher than they went, too. Perhaps the only negative is that Boxshall went one pick ahead of theirs, but maybe they liked Gross more anyway.

We may have lost the battle over trade week but we have won the war on draft night.
The loss of pick 3 which everyone thought was horrible has given us two firsts, two seconds and a third future next year after giving up a future third to get back into the draft this year.
We have better draft picks next year than we have had for ages.
It has gone from a pessimistic future to a brighter future.
