A lot of melts here and in the game day threads, but I'm cautiously optimistic after that game.

Guys like Sheezel and McKercher, who we know are usually elite users of the footy, had shockers tonight in terms of their disposal and decision making.

The Bulldogs were absolutely gifted several goals by the umpires, and that ended up the literal score difference really. On the flipside, felt like we got zero assistance from the umpires.

We had plenty of opportunities but missed gettable goals, burned inside 50s, and looked a bit too lazy in terms of defensive intensity. All of these things are fixable.

Yeah, that loss hurts and I'm not suggesting otherwise. But seeing some of the melts here tonight has me scratching my head a bit.

Shit start to the game (Rust after shit attitude to preseason games?), and the 4th quarter, but the end result is alright if ****ing frustrating because it was supremely winnable.

Just some quick observations on scoring:

The most consecutive goals we conceded were 4, during the first and second term. 3 in a row at the start of the 4th was brutal on us though. considering how shit we were in the 1st, four in a row is understandable. The 3 in the 4th isn't excusable though.

If this game was last year it would have been our second highest score of the year.

I think one of the reasons the fluffing of scoring chains stood out so much because we were dangerous so much more often than we were last year. Which is a good thing.

As for Archer I think he'll be ok. Might not be, never can tell these days. To me it looked like he took only 2 steps between the point where the Dog's player was moving under his own control and when impact was made while being ridden to ground, and during those 2 steps Archer was shaping up for a side on contest. Hope the other player is alright, there was a lot of momentum to it and I can't imagine how devastating it might be if it was contact to the knee.

There were some positive signs in terms of pressure and mindset but the disappointing thing is that we just robbed ourselves of a win with poor skills. We can't throw away wins like that.

Something has to be done about transition defense, as well. Too often we ended up with unmanned players strolling into their 50.

Sheezel his worst game ever. Colby not great and really wasteful. Zurhaar just wtf.

Love Darling. Xerri our best player

LDU my favourite player but Jesus Christ get stuck in when the game is on the line… be the ****ing change!!!!

McDonald you tit. So wasteful and costly mistakes.

Chom… yep gonna say nothing there.

Just don’t understand our defensive set ups. Our ability to allow sides to easily clear the ball out of the defensive 50 but not be set up anywhere on the ground to slow them down from transitioning.

Sorry to intrude. Didn't see your game as i was too busy laughing my head off watching Port getting thrashed. But on the face of it, must have been a good game and you guys are not far away now. What would be hilarious is if port slide right down and spend the coming years around the bottom of the ladder while North becomes a regular finals side and you can send shoutouts to JHF. I'll see myself out now
