Didn't expect to be reading about brain cancer when I opened this thread. Good luck to both of you. Hope you both make a full recovery.

Certainly puts football into it's true perspective. Though a North win Saturday night I'm sure would help lift the spirits a little.

Yo, Dean.

I just read this, man.

Literally here smoking this blunt in your honour with a few homies that absolutely hate footy but love what you represent (yeah, I went fanboi, so what)

I love you, bro, and wish nothing but the best.

Holy shit, CrazyQ is back?!

Miss you brother.

Hi, all.

Not that concerned about a shitty team losing a shitty pre-season game to another shitty team.

Not to mention bearing unholy witness to my beloved team’s sustained stretch of perennially shit football.

Why I hear you not ask? - Because getting diagnosed with f’ing brain cancer can very quickly change a person’s perspective on what is important in life:👍

Sitting in the Austin, bored shitless. Had a golf ball-sized tumour cut out of my head yesterday. Suddenly years of serial shit-(non-)posting explained!

Just reading this, wishing you all the best TOD, been affected by it with family and friends and can only wish you the best

As hilly said, fair chance without you this forum is about a Gold Coast team.

Hopefully our club can give you some joy soon

I'll be in Melbourne for the GODees game. Unfortunately I won't be able to bring along any of ferball's finest. Don't know when I'll have some of that again.

Definitely going to try to be 'up' for the GoDees game. Could be one of those mythical, in-season, randomly-jagged games that I've been hearing so much about lately. In light of such unbridled optimism, I'm hearing strong rumours that this game will be moved to Unicorn Stadium in Pixieland, but not sure there's been any official word yet.

Tbh, even though, naturally, I feel much better now than I did immediately prior to getting a large, life-threatening tumour removed from my head (wow, who woulda thunk it?), the last few days has seen me doing a pretty good job of channelling Will Ferrell in The Office, post-attempted dunk. I just spend my whole day walking into rooms and standing there looking around, making like I'm some 'perplexed Travolta in 'Pulp Fiction' animated .gif., wondering wtf I am doing there.

Although I was doing a fair bit of that before all of this shit happened. So probably a good sign.

Right now I am still very much on the skinnier side of emaciated, and have some fight-y stuff kicking off quite soon (keen to upgrade my current moniker, 'Zippered-Head Guy', to 'Radioactive Man' or the more succinct and technically-accurate, 'Radiohead'), so at the moment I am really just all about trying to get back up to my playing weight to have some reserves to call upon in the event they are required.

Think I'm going to pass on the Dogs game regardless. Get some valuable rest in. Plus my brain, admittedly-recently-excised, is telling me that we're going to take the L on this one. Ambushed again! Even though we have the insider knowledge of Sneezy or Bashful or whichever one it is, at our disposal now, Western are still far too brave a foe for our young group of Sir Robins to contend with.

And don't stress about the other thing, comrade, some key purchases have already been made (delicious and very potent, blackcurrant gummies that I try my best...no, that's a lie....to not scoff down like they're M&M's), and I am also reliably informed that some of Jacinta's (or J-Roc as she's known around here at the park) finest is right around the corner now, too.

Hi TOD. So sorry to hear about this. Sadly my sister has been stricken by Stage 4 Glio Blastoma for the past four weeks and has run out of options. I just rushed back to Ireland to see her. Best wishes.

I'm very sorry to hear that about your sister. That's really rough.

Best wishes to you, too.

Not sure if that info helps anyone or not, we seem to have some amazing cancer related treatments on the horizon. I wish I had known this information a lot earlier as I have lost some people to various cancers in recent times. It makes he wonder why we really do not address the diet of modern Australians, we know the levels of sugars and carbs we consume are really bad for the human body long-term, we could prevent so many people becoming diabetic through a change of diet.

Sure.

Kind of a push and pull thing between the positive of creating a hostile environment for the cancer, and it getting pissed and seeking out newer, sunnier climes.

Cheers for posting that, Tas.

Tas being Tas. :)

Neoplasm-stricken lives matter, too.

All our thoughts brother, you know that. If you need anything, just a pm away.

Legend. Thanks so much, franjon, and Horace, Kiwi, DP, Hilltop, Nicko, Dan & dan, Wels, Leo and a few others.(This is not a list.) Very kind of you.

Now listen here you wonderful loon….
I will finally put to bed my jealousy of your lust for P. Dempsey et al and resume my compendium of your most outrê scrivenings on this totemic platform for the chance of a giggle and a (supressed) shout at a game or in row P of that recreation of the old Arden St “grandstand” in all it’s shambling, life-threatening glory. I concur with most who delight in ya that only you with yer massive, bewitching brain needed a lil’ trimming…
Onward ya rascal. And my shout for all when we can roustabout again, soon.
Love
ol mate.

Hi there, fellow renegade.

Loud, clear, and will seek out your counsel some time in the sooner rather than later category of time.

I still have so many meaningless questions to pepper you with, about if you've ever played on the same bill as (insert some awesome old band, like Silkworm, that only someone like me would give much of a crap about these days), or if you've ever met the most divine Suzie Higgie. Important stuff like that. And I also have a few tales of my own. Bit of a mile-wide dark horse streak running through me. Certainly deeper than that band that your better half used to call his own.

But only if you lay off Paul and et al. (Funny name for Steph to pick to change her name to.) They are Australia's answer to Thurston and Kim, but with greater longevity. Unless in the event they've now split. If so, best wishes to all affected parties. Especially Paul.

Good luck on the upcoming nationwide shin(boner)dig. Talk to you soon.

Yep.

Thread officially sent into the stratosphere by an appearance from the AbsolutelyRealAuthenticTotesLegit, Q.

It's nothing short of the stuff of dreams. Or dream teams. Or something.

Dudelinger….it’s an almighty yes to S. Higgie: an eternal dream of a human. And was with Paul n Steph just two weeks ago. My jousting is in jest. I adore them. And I think they would adore you. I’ll be the duffel coated dork at the deeznuts match. R’n’r perennially ruining by footy career, but seeya for a giigle n cuddle. Ya rascal…..X

Get Billy Walsh back on the bongo's l reckon. His team hasn't done anything for 25 years, so he's not busy !

The Other Dean - no doubt this will rank in the “medium” zone for lifetime honours, however you should know that you are my favourite poster on this cursed forum. And moreover, your loyalty and support for the Club far transcends just on BF.

It’s not exaggerating to say that your existence has helped changed the course of history of our proud Club, and for that we will forever be in debt to you. Now, I sincerely hope someone/something can have a similarly positive impact on your trajectory. Maybe it’s already happened and we don’t know yet.

All this to say, we’re all with you and McGooley and if there’s anything this place can do to lend a helping hand - whether it’s just taking your mind off your next hurdle - please take advantage of it.

Hang in there boys. We’ll be cheering for you.

Beautifully said LP, I echo those sentiments.

On another note, TOD have you run your absence for tonight past Mr North Man to ensure your excuse is up to scratch? I'd hate for you to cop an 8 line paragraph without punctuation!

G`day bloke -thinking of you

Was going thru a similar thing too - scary - got my prognosis & it`s less than ideal so I`m dealing with that
but I have learnt a few things on the way that may be just for me or not.

I`m not a big talker about myself so not too many know what`s going on with me but I found that it is good to have the right people to talk to about the really bad stuff.

There`s lots of Community support for physical support out there (nurses drs. community orgs. etc). It is really good but (for me) it was hard to accept until I did. They are good people.

Family support can be crucial be dealing with this type of thing. I have a couple of family members & my Dr. I open up to & then keep the others updated.

To me the mental support is the biggest need. Find what you need.

The scariest place in the world is inside your own head at 3am laying in the dark in your own bed dealing with this type of thing.

Everybody (friends & family) will deal with your situation in their own way. Sometimes it may come across as so crass that you don`t understand it but it will be coming from a good place. They just don`t know how to process it.

As you can see from here you are not alone in this.

I`m here too if you want to talk. Call me if you want.
So sorry to hear this and so glad you wanted to tell us - we are all with you.

Bit lost for words here which is HIGHLY UNUSUAL for me. All I can say is thank you to everyone & I really appreciate
your kindness. Could get all philosophical or maudlin but instead I will commend to you the words of that truly Great
Philosopher - Oddball (Burning Bridges) - "You gotta make with the positive waves baby"

PS Well done Hoj
Now you are here, hope you will join as many threads as you want. My wife doesn’t approve of Bigfoooty either, but what can they do?

Thank you to one & all - I really appreciate the support.

GAME DAY
To me this already a winning day. To be honest there were a few times that I didn`t think I would get this far
but HERE I AM :D & it gives me a bit of hope to keep kicking on. I fired the last big shot in my locker a few weeks ago
(steroids) & they are keeping my strength up in between problem times so I just gotta manage the extra problems they bring (side effects) & hope they can be long term.

Like the coach I`m looking for us to stay in the game longer & bring INTENSITY & URGENCY.

A LA Georgie Wardlaw

Go Roos

Puff anal party? It’s a thing in Bendigo apparently 🧐
Huge in South Australia, purely from personal observation.

Like others, have only just read this thread, and want to join the masses to pass on my support to The Other Dean & McGooley. Bloody gutsy of you both to share your battles so openly - you’ll never know the full and lasting effect this will have on everyone who reads it. I’m sure others will, in their own way, double think their current attitude to monitoring their health.

Gentlemen, fight the good fight. North Melbourne boys are hard to beat when they come out to play.
