Welsh most definitely needs to leave home and live with a professional teammate

I took that as we had to find a decent coach to coach (Davis) to draw heat away from the board ( who signed Nicks way too early) and Nicks who at 30% win ratio in season 6 can be fairly labelled not a good coach.
Oh thats fair, and I agree it was absolutely to take the heat off Nicks.

But he seems to he a genuinely good pick up for us.....maybe better for the next coach ?

And yet we re-signed Nicks and to save face brought in Davis to pseudo coach. You don’t always get sacked if you don’t meet acceptable standards.

We re signed Nicks on the back of a certainty of making finals in 2024. That was the clear expectation. Then somehow after a clear game plan screw up, we ran back to the inexperienced teenagers narrative.

I dont think the Davis appointment bodes well for Nicks tbh. Nicks cant hide his mistakes, poor selection philosophies and game plans like he did by using the fake narratives around the rebuild.

He will have to explain to Davis at selection how a 4 possession Murphy is a better option than other players.

Dont get me wrong, I do think the club will still excuse Nicks failings in 2025 as much as possible. The feel good PR club never admits fault.

I really know little about him as most of us do but I like the idea of us head hunting someone we think has the full set of coaching skills because currently, we seem to have a list of coaches not moving us forward. I'd like to think our current senior assis would see the writing on the wall and develop his post football career in football manager role.

I agree there is nowhere to hide for Nicks now.

Silvers and co have obviously been consumed by the Thebarton saga until recently.

Think the spotlight is now firmly on the football department to start getting results.

Well they started to realise they cant blame everyone else all the time and absolve the coach.

I can't see even a non Crows fan looking at our list and not expecting at winning season (win more games than we lose)

Outside 6 LTI to our best 6 players, finals or at least missing out by a whisker has to be absolutely the minimum

Honestly, I don't think any sort of missing is acceptable now. Fantastic draft period, good pick 4, range of players getting to acceptable games, we should be making a statement or heads should roll now

Reckon the penny has dropped with Tyler about his fitness, saying all the right things about working hard and getting fit and he’s being advised by his Dad, Tex and co to get fit.

I saw him play U18s last year and physically he was as a beast and loved hurting the opposition, obviously going to be different at AFL level but he’s going to be a solid unit once we tones up and adds muscle.

Quick, agile, strong mark and booming kick. When he gets fit, he will be a dangerous forward.

I wonder if he deliberately tanked himself this year to sink in the draft. if what a few have said about the club not being happy with him. Or it was just a deliberate point to have a lazy fun year before the real work begins. Either way it matters little. He has to work bloody hard now.

Nah, I reckon he is just immature and got ahead of himself.

No chance he deliberately tanked or we asked him too. Now he’s got more work to do to get to acceptable level, he nor the club would have thought that’s a sound strategy and in terms of draft capital, given how strong the draft ended up being, they would have know it wasn’t going to cost us a fortune.

Well its safe to say its going to take him 2 solid pre seasons to get up to some sort of afl fitness. see what happens.

There's no way he deliberately tanked to sink in the draft. There is no incentive for him to do that, the club definitely wouldn't instruct him to do so, and with the way the bidding system works there's no real need to do it anyway. Brisbane just matched a bid at pick 5 with a handful of picks out in the 40s.

I think it's just a case of one step back to go two steps forward. He realised that he couldn't throw his weight around when playing against men, so he started bulking up, but has yet to really get used to his bigger body. I doubt very much this is a case of him simply being lazy and letting his conditioning slip.

I'm confident that the club has been communicating with him all year long about what they expect from him. I doubt very much they've been sitting back, being unhappy with him without saying anything. I'm sure they gave him advice along the lines of "get stronger, focus on your footy, and be prepared for one hell of a workout once preseason starts."

Not only is there no incentive for him to tank - there would have been massive incentive for him to climb the draft ladder and be a pick inside the top 20.

At minimum - the pay scale for rookies is about 105k for players in the top 20 compared to 90k for players taken after 40. Also top 20 players (pretty sure) are guaranteed 3 years in the system whilst picks 21 onwards are only given 2 year contracts.

Slipping in the draft this far could potentially cost him $135k.

Welsh seems like a footballers footballer. Can clunk a grab, nice kicking action, good on the lead, some forward smarts.

Hopefully part of his 2024 involved working on the other stuff. Defensive action, what you do when you don't have the ball. All the stuff that might prevent a raw newbie from playing in his first season or two.

Well part of the want to get him across from the Eagles and play with the Sanfl side i would have thought was to to have him work on AFL level expectations. Which probably also took him away from his natural game. Will be interesting to see his progress over pre season. Its hard to know how far back his fitness base is. The other question is whether he is willing to work for it. But damn, he knew this was coming, if he wasnt running much prior to the draft then he is in for an almighty shock.

I would be surprised if money is an incentive. He lives at home and the club will reward him quickly if he starts performing.
