Paywall busted article from the young man. Can't wait to get over and link up with local hero Liam Duggan

What was Grego's true draft range? Most phantoms had him in the 4th round if at all.
Regardless, I would assume the club reached quite a bit for him.
I wonder if the club would've considered Urquhart instead.

On the draft coverage last night it said his Fox Footy whatever it is rank was in the 60's, but considering we got Davis at 65 when he was ranked 30 they pretty much cancel each other out.

Lucca Grego, send him to negotiate for Warner next year....

The pictures of him as a kid look like the kind of little shit you see picking fights with adults on the streets in Manchester.

Ironically some of the most well rounded highlights of our entire group. The bloke doing the highlights for Allan on the AFL website seemed to be angling for him being an intercepting defender.

Paddy McGinnity thread for those banned on BigPaddy.
Aaargh - You've just triggered me!
If he's as hard as Paddy, that's great, please lord let him have better skills.
At least this guy's kicking style doesn't look as bad as Paddy's, and some of those kicks went near people so there's hope.

Here is the Rookie Me Central write up

STRENGTHS:

  • Clean hands
  • Defensive acts
  • Leadership
  • Physicality
  • Toughness

IMPROVEMENTS:

  • Composure
  • Finishing

In a draft full of unique midfield prospects full of attacking flair, Lucca Grego stands out for his defensive appetite. The hard-nosed bull is clearly the Western Jets' most high-profile talent this year and has carried that expectation to improve on his deficiencies, all while remaining a highly team-oriented player.

Grego's defensive acts and physicality are among the traits which make him a leader by action. He thrives on applying pressure and laying punishing tackles, perhaps credit to his background as a rugby league junior - hailing all the way from Queensland. He rides the bumps well, too as a defender/inside midfielder.

At the coalface and when intercept marking, Grego's clean hands are highly noticeable. He adds touches of flair when running off half-back, particularly with his run-and-carry, but is primarily an honest and hard-working type. That's part of the reason why he fit so seamlessly into Vic Metro and Williamstown's backlines.

Credit to Grego, he has clearly looked to round out his game. Early in the season he struggled to drive his legs away from the contest and tended to dump kick, but adjusted nicely to be a more damaging stoppage player. That applied to his ball use from defence too, where he would normally blaze away on the run. He can still work on his finishing in front of goal, though, having kicked 7.14 for the season.

DRAFT RANGE: 40-60

So a couple of months with Shuey to address finishing and coming out of congestion and we could find him becoming a fan favourite. Imagine Harley, Allan and Lucca lining up against their opposing midfield!!!

How an un-Pieman like a pick. I love it

He thrives on applying pressure and laying punishing tackles

Kinda sounds like a younger, bigger Liam Baker

How's these 2 parts though?

Used to dump kick but worked on being able to get separation from the contest instead + stopped blazing away on the run?

Sheed and Gaff could've taken notes there.

Then loves pressure and big tackles.

If i’m not mistaken the Shuey highlights pre draft were not exactly glowing in terms of his footskills. Turned into a big asset of his. I like that he looks to play on often.
Not sure about Shuey's footskills pre-draft, I just remember him being talked about as being truly dual-sided, to the point you didn't know if he was a lefty or a righty.

I don't know if its the whiskey talking but I'm all in on this kid, he will play 300 games and win a normsmith

It’s probably the whiskey
