Not athletic enough? Rucks are hard, because you need to be an absolute freak, otherwise it's going to take time to build the core strength to be able to compete against the mature rucks.

You can't hide your lack of strength like other positions given you go into a wrestle/test of strength at every ball up/throw in.
Barnett is definitely athletic enough. Quite well built for his age too. Purely guessing at this point but for me it looks like his issues lie between the ears. Not sure whether it’s more a lack of confidence, lack of aggression, lack of football ability or some combination of all three.

He just consistently struggled to get himself into games as a ruck, which only got worse when Flynn returned to the Beagles and he played mostly up forward.

That said I didn’t mind the look of him down back in the last couple of games. If he’s going to make it as an AFL player, I think that’s his best option.

To have Jack Darling leave and Jobe arrive. I'm all for this.

"We don't need Forwards" but we've got 21 games of Jack Darling to replace and Waterman & Allan have both missed lots of games.

I'm guessing we will trial both him and Reid as a key defenders and see which one does better.
Leaving the other to keep developing as a forward.

Sorry to intrude your board but apparently we offered either of our future firsts for your pick 30, and you guys declined. Really big call but I hope Jobe Shanahan becomes a great player for you guys, big fan of your forward line now, with Allen, Archer Reid and Jobe now.
Think we have had info that Geelong offered their future first and was turned down. Haven't heard the Essendon rumour.

Apparently he was ranked 12th on our big board, so we rated him very highly. A future first in a weak/compromised draft wasn't getting it done.

Reports are that Shanahan was in our top dozen or so players, so with that in mind it would explain turning down this deal.

Surely we would've been more likely to say yes if it was a team like Richmond or Norf?

You guys got as far to offering nothing after shafting us on an agreed in principle pick swap. Your club may have wanted to offer a future first (I can guarantee you would have been asking for our future second back) but i'd literally just got off the phone to Mackie whilst everyone senior was laughing and someone politely took the call and just said no before an offer was made.

What was the in principle pick swap that was agreed on? Not like Essendon to do something scummy.

Also confidence issues I reckon.
We messed up by signing him for another 2 years.
Hopefully for our sake, he'll show something over the next 2 years.
He's already been easily surpassed by Livingstone in the pecking order.
Let's hold our fire on a second year ruck's performance. Bloke played an AFL game at the start of the year, so wasn't completely useless.

Needs a big pre-season and a chance to reset. I wouldn't expect him to show consistency until his 4th or 5th season. B.Williams and Lycett were the same.

12 on WCE draft board. Top rated KPP and we got the best leading and marking tall forward in the draft at 30.

Nice.

Brutal. But they are all ex west coasters, why not the love?

Next year Vozzo and Rosa will have the control but there was/is still the filth of a rotten core and when we operate in an open an honest manner only to be ****ed around because Essendon continuously do the same shit and shaft others even after agreements are made is a huge, huge turn off.

The polite thing was someone picking up the phone and just saying no thank you. A few in the room would have tee'd off. Probably none more so than Woosh.

**** essendon

He reminds me of the player he models himself of, Nick Riewoldt. Saints fans might be spewing they took Tauru over him in a few years.
