Europe War in Ukraine - Thread 4 - thread rules updated

This is the thread for discussing the War in Ukraine. Should you want to discuss the geopolitics, the history, or an interesting tangent, head over here:

If a post isn't directly concerning the events of the war or starts to derail the thread, report the post to us and we'll move it over there.

Seeing as multiple people seem to have forgotten, abuse is against the rules of BF. Continuous, page long attacks directed at a single poster in this thread will result in threadbans for a week from this point; doing so again once you have returned will make the bans permanent and will be escalated to infractions.

This thread still has misinformation rules, and occasionally you will be asked to demonstrate a claim you have made by moderation. If you cannot, you will be offered the opportunity to amend the post to reflect that it's opinion, to remove the post, or you will be threadbanned and infracted for sharing misinformation.

Addendum: from this point, use of any variant of the word 'orc' to describe combatants, politicians or russians in general will be deleted and the poster will receive a warning. If the behaviour continues, it will be escalated. Consider this fair warning.

Finally: If I see the word Nazi or Hitler being flung around, there had better have a good faith basis as to how it's applicable to the Russian invasion - as in, video/photographic evidence of POW camps designed to remove another ethnic group - or to the current Ukrainian army. If this does not occur, you will be threadbanned for posting off topic

This is a sensitive area, and I understand that this makes for fairly incensed conversation sometimes. This does not mean the rules do not apply, whether to a poster positing a Pro-Ukraine stance or a poster positing an alternative view.

Behave, people.

He only just heard Putin was using Iranian weapons? Really?

Mr “I will end the war on day one!” says he will have to think about this ‘new’ information for a while, talk it out, delay for his comrade Putin.

Orange Mussolini's doctors must have forced him to take his medication today.

Imagine next year when he finds out Prigozhin is dead and North Korean troops are involved......

From Forbes via Noel Reports:

Ukraine can produce up to 5 million FPV drones per year, with over 150 domestic manufacturers and one factory making 4K drones daily. Drones now account for 85% of frontline strikes, and Ukraine has surpassed Russia in UAV production. The main challenge remains funding, with only 2M drones produced last year due to shortages.

From Washington Post via Noel Reports:

Ukrainian officials have compared the new U.S. proposal on minerals to “lifetime reparations,” according to WP. One senior official said the deal looks as if “Ukraine was at war with the U.S., lost, was occupied, and now has to pay lifetime reparations.”

From ASTRA TG:

"Russia is laughing at the world's peacekeeping efforts – it is prolonging the war and committing this terror because it still does not experience real pressure," Zelensky on the night attacks in Ukraine

According to him, during yesterday evening and night Russia launched more than 170 drones at Ukraine: the strikes hit the Dnepropetrovsk, Kyiv, Sumy, Kharkiv and Khmelnytskyi regions.

German security officials believe the Kremlin is laying the groundwork for a potential large-scale conventional war with NATO by the end of the decade,

Although three-quarters of Russian land forces based near the Baltic have been committed to Ukraine, German officials say the Russian navy and air force remain at high readiness. The BND warns that once the war in Ukraine concludes, those units could be quickly redeployed to threaten NATO’s eastern flank.

While German authorities caution that Russia is not yet capable of waging a full-scale war against NATO in the near term, Lithuania’s State Security Department (VSD) added that limited Russian military action against one or more NATO states is within the realm of possibility.

In yet another blow to Russia's hopes a coalition of the willing has been established to maintain peace on Ukranian territory. Russia has been told it has absolutely no say in its deployment

Of note, this coalition totally excludes USA who are absolutely sidelined from the process.

This underscores just how hopeless Putin's situation is and his hopes of absorbing Ukraine into a new Russian empire. Not even getting the US onboard can help him do this.

Putin faces the choice of continuing on a long war that will further undermine the state of Russia for no gain or do a deal to withdraw.

A hunter ventures into the forest to hunt a bear, armed with his trusty 22-gauge rifle. After some time, he spots an enormous bear, takes aim, and fires. The smoke clears, but the bear has vanished.
Moments later, the bear taps the hunter on the shoulder and says, "Nobody shoots at me and gets away with it. You have two options: I can tear out your throat and eat you, or you can drop your pants, bend over, and I'll do as I please." The hunter, fearing death, drops his pants and bends over, allowing the bear to do as he said.
Once the bear has left, the hunter pulls up his pants and hobbles back into town, bow-legged and furious. He purchases a much larger gun and returns to the forest. He spots the same bear, takes aim, and fires. The smoke clears, and the bear is gone.
The bear taps the hunter on the shoulder once more and says, "You know the drill." Humiliated, the hunter pulls up his pants, drags himself back to town, and buys a bazooka. Now seething with rage, he returns to the forest, spots the bear, aims, and fires. The blast from the bazooka sends him sprawling onto his back.
As the smoke clears, the bear looms over him and says, "This isn't really about hunting for you, is it?"

From Denys Davydov TG:

The commander of the Rusich unit of the reconnaissance battalion of the 42nd division of the Russian Armed Forces, Alexey Milchakov, posted a video on his channel in which Russian soldiers shoot prisoners and civilians, and kidnap children of murdered parents. Milchakov called this the best advertisement for the Russian Defense Ministry, and his post collected more than ten thousand likes from Russian citizens.

Only problem is, his successor could easily be worse :$
lol, worse?
We’ll deal with that threat when it presents.
This “better the devil you know” tome is insufferable to me, your inexcusable ignorance is embarrassing mate!!
We get to shape the system, not the ****ing pathetic psychopathic former kgb goons flanked by black hooded Russian orthodox priests masquerading as Russian saviours!
The time has come to destroy the oligarchy once and for all.

I don't visit this thread much, if at all. I've been neutral about the Russian invasion of Ukraine to be honest. Putin's war against the LGBT+ community in his own nation (Pussy Riot woke me up back in 2010-11 - look them up) means I can never in good conscience back Russia in any endeavour while he or people who share his bigotries hold power there.

I've always been opposed to US foreign policy 'adventures' though. This lengthy New York Times article

doesn't make me hate Zelensky or Ukraine, but it ensures I will never back them either.

Back to neutrality I guess!!
