You have no muscle. Grin and bear it
No instead of grinning and bearing it better for thirds sides to boycott OX games instead of the flogging. It would be a good way to teach the ammos. Speaking of grinning and bearing it why don’t Xavs go up divisions and play each other instead of bullying the ammos into non promotion.

I fear the league will simply fine them into submission using the Wonthaggi precedent from the late 2000s

Ammo’s won’t allow it.

At the AGM there was a vote on the rules and it was narrowly defeated SO it is the admin who is holding this up. The clubs voted in favour of the VAFA being able to put 2 club teams in the same division. As Bedford says the clubs in those divisions of thirds have to stand together.

Love the CEO VAFA website post where he states the VAFA and umpires have reached an agreement over the finals loading dispute? Says clubs won't pay the VAFA will from the umpire's budget. Must be a secret that the CLUBS money is used for all things to do with umpires [including clubs paying for the umpires coaches ... yes indeed] so CLUBS are paying for the increases.

You have a problem with paying for the umps ??

The umpiring department needs more funding. Lots more
If that is the case the clubs will again foot the bill. VAFA gets money from the clubs, the odd grant and sponsorship. Clubs already paying for everything to do with umpires. VAFA umps are the best paid full stop.

What would your additional funding cover?

Just out of interest, what is a Premier A field umpire paid per game?

Why can't they have multiple teams in the same division. They do it in junior sports all the time.
Because they will sook up , anyhow there should be a limit to a max of 2, it's killing a great comp

Vafa umpires are also the most travelled driving 2 and 3 and sometimes 4 tmes more distances than any other local ump. They are also required to give 12 plus hours a week to be able to umpires at the higher levels, then those in lower levels are required to at times umpire multiple games a week. Large numbers of umpires have left over the years due to the lack of coaching from the middle level down, this requires more coaches, then to attract and maintain levels at the top end they require greater levels of coaching to assist in their development towards VFL and AFL levels. Then there is the cost of recruitment currently very little spent in this area. Ideally the VAFA need ro double the size if the umpiring department if it was to fill all games every week (big task) Clubs want a comp, it comes at a cost PAY it or close the doors. It's pretty simple. The ridiculous and uneducated comment of "VAFA umps are the highest paid" is simple and example of people with very little to zero knowledge of the problem and or the solutions needed.

VCFL Umpires travel further for a start and paid less. Umpires that umpire 2 games often back to back get paid twice so no problems there. Many VAFA umpires don't go to training because they don't want to. If they had to they would move elsewhere.

The VAFA & VAFUA [as stated by the CEO] have one of their advertising lures as, "Come to the VAFA because we are the highest paid!"

Any chance you can break down the 12 hours+ a week for us private? My pm messages are saying that that is rubbish and suspect you can't justify such throw away claims?

Over to you or back to the trenches.

Country leagues pay travel so that helps. I moved from the VAFA to country and earned more and whilst you might travel more kms, it’s still less time than travelling around the south eastern suburbs.

But on the 12 hours, if you count travel time it’s well over 12 hour commitment every week if you train twice.

3 hours on a Monday, 4+ hours on a Wednesday and 6 hours on a Saturday.

Unlike regular jobs where you’re going the same place every day, you go all over Melbourne.

A lot of leagues also have different training venues when people are spread over.

Comparing the VCFLs please, I'm not sure what your point is, you don't want to pay for umps yet the comp needs more umps, what's next complaints about needing to buy footballs for games and training. VAFA umps deserve more pay and more money spent on coaching etc if you can't realise that then you have rocks in your head.

12 hours is simple. Training, coaching. Game day, maintaining fitness it all adds up.

As for being in the trenches it's pretty obvious than all you care for is yourself so I'd be making sure to be away from you if in a battle.

You brought up travel and VAFA umpires under the direction of S P take into account travel as best they can. Some umpires travel more some don't on a weekly basis. It is part of the umpires role. Same as training and game day because that what they are umpires! Your 12 hours includes their own time in keeping fitness up. Clutching at straws for this to be included in what clubs should be paying for.

Everyone knows there could be more but VAFA has tried and tried. They have way more now than ever. The competition keeps growing which is a healthy sign but unfortunately being the biggest brings about umpire shortages. Fact of life clubs are forced to pay for people to umpire thirds etc.

Nowhere have I said that clubs don't want to pay for umpires so shelve that one. Your reference to buying footballs is a pitiful attempt at deflection.

You state that the umpires need more pay. What % increase do you think is warranted?
