Underrated TV series that aren't spoken about much/you'd never heard of prior

I stumbled upon all of these without ever hearing of them previously and can recommend each - a few of them before rampant social media or streaming existed.

Southland

The Night Of
Highly recommend Southland if you enjoy police procedurals.

The Night Of, is a quality crime drama.

Both shows are definitely not spoken much of and I would be surprised if many in here have watched them, definitely I rank both of them highly.

I should also add I Will Destroy You

I'm presuming you mean "I MAY Destroy You"?

If so, I love your long list, but I'm unsure how the #1 show on pretty much every 'Best of' list of that year can be "under-rated".

It's very good, but probably over-rated imo.

To add a series to the list, a few have mentioned 'The Night Of', which is awesome... but no-one ever mentions the show that it remade (mostly scene for scene)... 'CRIMINAL JUSTICE' from 2008. Ben Whishaw was superb in it.

Yeah, my bad on the show title.

You're right, Criminal Justice was outstanding, and not even spoiled by me having watched The Night Of beforehand.

The Night Of is so bloody good but I forgot it existed.
Definitely on my radar for a rewatch now.

Ranked really high on IMDB and Rotten Tomatoes, it definitely belongs in this thread.

Miniseries are easy to forget too as they're usually a very brief moment in time, and can slide under the radar even upon release.

I'd possibly add The Terror S1 to this list, for this reason, not many people I talk to have heard of it.

The English science fiction TV show 'Primeval' which ran from 2007-2011 and which starred S Club 7 member Hannah Spearritt in the lead role was very popular at the time it aired and a definite critical and commercial success, but for some reason it seems to have been forgotten in the years since it aired, fading from popular culture.

Highly recommend this show. Its a very very slow burn. A satisfying, poignant, engaging drama with rich interesting characters you are invested in. You genuinely feel and experience the pain and suffering that the main character Daniel Holden experiences before, during and after incarceration.

Its not a binge watch show IMO, the show moves at a lethargic pace.

I would be surprised if many on here have ever heard or seen an episode of this show.
From memory, Des portrayed a sociopath like no other. He had absolutely no empathy for any human being. I consider it to be Tennant's best performance.
One great series that I keep in my back pocket is What Remains. Pretty much unheard of but it has serious respect from some on the pommy thread.

A retired MMA fighter turned trainer juggles keeping his mixed martial arts gym running and keeping his family united.

Three seasons, 40 episodes long, its a decent show that rated well, especially if your into MMA.

The Killing

Season 1 is first class and then it declines to the Season 3 finale
Its a good show, I wont spoil it, but lets just say at one stage in Season 1 I didnt rule out the detectives doing The Killing. :D

If you have seen the entire show, you will love the irony of my statement. Again no spoilers.

Yep. Good call.

I like Joel Kinnaman.

Altered Carbon S1 was pretty alright. I enjoyed the premise.

S2 was pure unadulterated shite.

Iirc it was supposed to be one season only and then they realised they had a hit and altered S1 finale, absurdly so, and it tried its best to recover but the writers couldn’t?

Season 1, laid the foundation for what could have been arguably one of the GOAT TV shows.

Unfortunately for a combination of reasons most importantly the writers strike killed it.
