Cats also got Bowes, who is playing first team football for them.It is all explained earlier in the discussion.
If we are trading these well paid guys out, then obviously it leaves us with a pile of cap space. It makes perfect sense to me to use part of that cap space to get extra value in picks.
Nobody is going to moan about Bolton staying at the club on his current deal. He is worth that and more. But if you get an offer you can't refuse, take it. And if we were offered 7 & 14 for Bolton in a straight swap, but 7, 10 & 14 if we pay some salary, then pay the salary, take the extra pick. At the point we are releasing our best, most valuable and highest paid player then we are rebuilding. So you find every way you can within reason to get picks. Especially when there seems to be a draft full of talent throughout the first round and beyond. Cats paid about $1.6m in salary to get pick 7. So even $400k of Bolton's salary for 4 years should get us an extra pick. And it helps Fremantle. Which hinders any of our main rivals who may be contending.
So if we are going that way, I am all for it. But of course you are not doing anything without getting good value in return, especially when we have the whip hand.
Hopefully there is a significant slider that slides right through the first round. Someone every club wants.let the bidding war beginI reckon our 2nd if it's first pick of night 2 will become a F1
24 to 28 is far too old to build around. We need to build around the 21 - 25 year olds as they are the age group that will mostly make up the next crack at the finals. Let's say that we hypothetically nail this draft, it would be 3 years until we start to see consistent fruits.
This may all change however. If next year we have normal levels of injuries and more than 2 players play every game we can start to actually learn and implement a game plan. Then our needs may differ.
yeah gotta hold onto that one if possible and see who comes callingI reckon our 2nd if it's first pick of night 2 will become a F1

AbsolutelyHands up if you'd like this season to end tomorrow so we can get into the all-important draft.
Well there’s only so much currency they have and I’d want that for Bolton regardless ,,,,in any case I’d prefer to keepIt is all explained earlier in the discussion.

We need a star spine. Always think you set yourself up for long success with it. We need 3-4 players who will step in to those open positions of forward and back and 1 or 2 more mids.Disagree. Elite youngsters are impacting in year one, and certainly in year two. Scheezel won the B&F year one and is dominant again year 2. Wardlaw impacting year 2. McKercher is getting 30+ most weeks in year one. Windsor is doing great things and hasn’t missed a game.
Then from 2022 draft there’s Weddle, Ashcroft, Mackenzie, Michalanney etc…
So if we take let’s say 5 x top-30 picks this year and 3 x top-30 picks next year, we will
get immediate impact from 2 x players in 2025 and another one from 2025 draft to bring to 3 in total by 2026. That’s being conservative.
We are mistaken if we think we need half a dozen elite stars. We don’t. 2-3 is enough.

Hopefully Gibcus becomes 1. Pick #1 has to be another. We need a star spine. Always think you set yourself up for long success with it. We need 3-4 players who will step in to those open positions of forward and back and 1 or 2 more mids.
What do you think we get for Dan Rioli?Hopefully Gibcus becomes 1. Pick #1 has to be another.
It's likely going to take 3 drafts to get what the bulk of what we need (06, 07 & 09 did the trick last time). Hopefully it's 3 in a row this time to speed it up a tad.
Steel Mac Andrew from the SunsWe need a star spine. Always think you set yourself up for long success with it. We need 3-4 players who will step in to those open positions of forward and back and 1 or 2 more mids.
Here I was just thinking we will have 1, hope Baker chooses Freo and get 14, 15 from Brissy, 21 & 22 for Graham (if he's going to get $700k) and you drop this bomb on meWhat do you think we get for Dan Rioli?
I’m almost certain he’s going Suns.. reckon Cal Toomey knows he’s going too but out of respect won’t say it yet
Did you watch gettable? Toomey sneakily mentions Rioli on the slyHere I was just thinking we will have 1, hope Baker chooses Freo and get 14, 15 from Brissy, 21 & 22 for Graham (if he's going to get $700k) and you drop this bomb on me
Would have to be 8 & 20 but starting to lose a lot of players

If we’re going crazy it should be Rioli + 21 for picks 8 & 9.
Picks 20 + 21 = 1790 points which is a higher value than pick 6 so irrespective of where GC and the Dogs finish it is in their interest to give up both their firsts and take a second back. Of course if those picks decrease in value if one or both of them make finals we could look at giving back less or nothing.
Baker then chooses West Coast as expected. Harley Reid chooses Richmond.
We fulfil the prophecy and trade Baker + Pick 1 + Pick 8 + Pick 9 + Pick 15 for Reid + Pick 3 + Pick 23.
We get that round 2 Graham compensation.
Get Reid, gun mid at pick 3 and two more decent players at 22 and 23.
Rebuild completed!
so excited... the draft is going to be our most exciting for some time..Hands up if you'd like this season to end tomorrow so we can get into the all-important draft.
Damn. I had 7 pages to read and I was already up to yesterday's posts. I thought some big news dropped, I'll never learn.
This thread seriously cooks when we suck.
Suns scenario is an Academy pumping out a lot of young players. They seem to then pay every player a lot. So they end up with Chol, Bowes as overpaid depth.Cats also got Bowes, who is playing first team football for them.
7, 10 and 14 is the opening to negotiations for a superstar on a long contract like Bolton. "Get us pick 2 or 3 ya campaigners, throw in a future first, and a second," is the counter. "You want us to pay some of his contract? Then it's pick 2, pick 10 and a future first. Or **** off and never win a flag you purple losers."
I mentioned the eagles as most likely fit for Graham 2 months ago and the waters were muddied with Baker to EaglesMitch Cleary reckons JGTI is worth $650-700k per year as a free agent and that Eagles have some interest.
That'd probably get us a band 3 compo.
and CadmanSteel Mac Andrew from the Suns
Steel leek aleer from the giants
They’re the difference makers , in addition to a star mid , we need a Nate caddy type key forward . That’s what gets you to next base on your way back to contendingWe need a star spine. Zero chance freo would release those key forwards , Erasmus would def be a chance to be thrown into the mix , is he any good ? He gets respectable numbers at state league but so does sonsie and dowSuns scenario is an Academy pumping out a lot of young players. They seem to then pay every player a lot. So they end up with Chol, Bowes as overpaid depth.
Suns don't need a player from Geelong, just cap space problem solved.
I think the Giants end up in the same list management problem. Excess talented highly paid players.
Don't think Freo have similar structural cap problems.
Treacy or Amiss'd be handy but, picks, I imagine, from the WA clubs.
All the bs aside , its pivotal to our next 5years get it right and our journey starts again , the tiger army is holding its breath , nail it tigersso excited... the draft is going to be our most exciting for some time..
but the trade period will be our porno.
If we can nail it or atleast make a significant dent, then draft day will be the all important c#m shot..
please nail it Richmond!
