I just read that what we are offering isn't quite enough. They bent us over for Taranto and what we gave them was more than fair now they want to go in with 2 fists.
Read my earlier post, don't get sucked in by anything that will be said by GWS until Friday or Monday, it's just for drama.

Maybe they think Soldo is expendable now that Miller has shown he can play in the ruck?

We might have the deepest midfield in the comp next year, but I don't think our tall depth is quite there.
I’d be pretty confident that if Soldo is traded we would get a mature ruck from a state league in the rookie draft

For us to have obtained 19, it cost us CCJ. We have unsold 19 as part of the deal for Taranto. We haven't paid overs or under on this deal. It was a very fair price to pay.

I’m comfy with it. We need a midfield now, not in 2-3 years. With a decent midfield we finish top 4 and are right amongst it instead of floundering at the bottom of finals.

We’ve tried drafting mids and that unfortunately hasn’t worked out, we could keep spending picks on the draft and in maybe 3-4 year we might have an okay middle. I say okay as we aren’t likely to have acceess to the top 5 picks that tend to get you the best talent. This way we’ve spent 2 years of draft capital on two proven mids, something that we’ve tried since 2016 and only Bolton looks like a success.

Anyone that thinks that it was Graham that pulled out is delusionary

Port pulled out as soon as they realised JHF was an option .

Graham got shafted
Port didn't make the call. Graham got cold feet when Port told him they were also looking at JHF, because he wasn't confident Port could get deals done for both.

So ports literal list manager lied TWICE on radio?

Interesting use of delusionary

I disagree.
The negotiations surrounding JHF are for a first, future first and a player.
Graham was likely coming to us for the Amon compo.
I feel like they would have been separate.
JHF is an inside bull, Graham more of that high half forward role that rotates through the middle.

Don’t even think it matters who pulled out first, the move didn’t work out but it wasn’t a move that was being pushed overly hard by us or Graham, more an exercise in kicking tyres

Our game style isn’t overly dependent upon having a strong ruckman and Geelong certainly ran with that this season with Stanley just contesting centre bounce and then simply dropping deep to fill the hole (and Bliclavs and Hawkins taking forward of centre work). With Taranto and Hopper having strong defensive games a ruck becomes even less crucial too. We’ve lost clearances for years - so I think trading Soldo is not a problem. And, like above, I’m backing our development history to get Ryan up and going too.

Yea don’t see why they couldn’t do a deal for both. I would think doing deals for Taranto and Hopper would be more difficult than for JHF and Graham.

So how and when are we getting a Riewoldt replacement? Look like sitting out 2 drafts in a row and will have no money to spend much now
This is just my belief, but I still think Fischer McAsey is still in play for us.
If not, I believe Gibcus will be the player that develops as a forward this pre-season.

Dusty out of contract in two years time goes a long way to solving the money issue

I think its different.

Salary dumps for contracted players. This is a situation not too dissimilar to CCJ

Both offered contracts to stay, but offered more to leave which is in no means a salary dump.
A salary dump is a contracted player, that you no longer want (or can afford) in your cap...

Not offering someone a big contract IS NOT a salary dump...

Graham did pull out though. Once Port said they couldn't get the deal done he decided to stay with Richmond.

It is much like how I tell people me and my ex-girlfriend's break up was a mutual decision. Once she suggested it, I jumped right onboard.
