Dockers might be satisfied with pick 7 and and 26 from the Tigers, Hawks pick 5

Things change, like Shiel taking less $, Martin coming to us rather than *

Until he nominates
Cerra isn't going to nominate a club to benefit Freo 1 draft spot.

If he nominates Hawks or Tigers is because he wants to go there.

Once Cerra formally nominates and if that club is Carlton, then pick 6, thanks for playing.

How many players get traded to clubs that they didn't nominate?

One draft spot? There will be a number of picks exchanged in a deal for Cerra, not just a single digit pick

You realise negotiations happen before a nomination yeah?

Cerra's preference reportedly was the Demons, how would they facilitate a deal? They can't satisfy the Dockers, hence he won't nominate them.

Cerra will nominate a club, that he and his manager know can get the deal done

Last time, whether its us or any of the other club, what do you think Cerra is worth?

p6 and a sweetener perhaps is adequate compensation for Adam Cerra, should the chips fall our way. By that I mean secure an official nomination early in the process, this week. What follows is just media shenanigans.

If the club genuinely want Cerra, we'll likely pay whatever it takes to get him across unless the asking price is totally unreasonable....which is unlikely.

Some of our supporters are desperate to extract every ounce of value. We're lucky Brian Cook is smarter than that. Good clubs are happy to overpay a bit if it leads to getting their man early and creating a good relationship with list managers and player managers. Get the deal done early in the trade period so we can rejoice getting a quality 10 year player, and get on with other trades in the pipeline.

You don't need to 'win' every trade like a Dodoro.

I'm not trying to be flippant, but it generally doesn't work that way. Other clubs will certainly be taking an interest in the situation from afar and Fremantle will knock back 6 on it's own straight away. If we/they drag it out, who knows what can change over the trade period.

I ask you, why did we pay so much for Saad? It was an unprecedented price to pay for a player of his position and age, that has never been an All Australian or a Best and Fairest winner. I'm not saying we are bound to keep overpaying just because we made a blue, but why did we pay it?

Really?

3rd in 2019, 4th in 2018, 3rd in 2020. 10th at GC in 2017 (Jack Martin was third that year behind Gary jnr. and ahead of Lyons, Miller and May)

Is there a better rebounding HB in the competition. I mean clearly better?

Darn consistent.

They could have thrown in steak knives but really?

Against a kid at 8 - in a compromised draft - no idea whether they'll make it in 3 or 4 years time...

Why the comparisons to Prestia?

By the time he was traded, Prestia had enjoyed more 30+ possession games than hot meals.

Cerra has had 4.
Prestia would be pretty hungry then if had had less than 15 hot meals when he was traded. Despite having played a couple more seasons with gold coast (and a fair few more games) than
Cerra has so far he had had 15 games of 30 possessions or more.

Also would suggest that Cerra gains a bit more meterage and does a bit more with it than Prestia.

Cerra is not going to the tigers (salary cap issues hence Choil and Callum Jones leaving) or the Hawks (have decided to hit the draft and are more likely to trade out players than use draft capital). We are in the sweet spot with a list that many think can challenge, draft capital, new admin/coaching set up and salary cap space.

Not sure why there seems to be a bit of a group mindset that Cerra is not what we need. To me he looks exactly perfect for us, inside outside, good kick, has shown himself to be a professional, good runner. I actually rate him up with Mccluggage . I can't wait to (hopefully) see Walsh and Cerra rotating on ball/wing together for the next 10 years. They will be an unstoppable force.

Total no brainer.

Give 6 and move on....seriously, taking a kid at 6 is a better option?

Who - on probabilities - will not end up making it (and we'll only know that in 3-5 years)?

We don't need to roll the dice, we need to improve our midfield depth (yesterday) - Cerra does that, with 100% certainty, and still has much individual upside.

No brainer.

If we trade our first this year we can't trade a first next year -- for Rowell 2023 can but

Nope. We're all good, because we used two first rounders in 2019. Must use two in any four year rolling period.

2019 - Kemp and Philp
2020 - none
2021 - currently one, can trade it
2022 - currently one, can trade it

Just means if we trade out of one of this year's or next year's first rounds, then we'd need to use a first rounder at the draft in 2023. Or if we trade out of both this year's and next year's first rounds, then we'd need to manufacture an extra first rounder in 2023 otherwise we start copping the future pick trading limitations.

Comparing Cerra (and amount of possessions) to Prestia is a bit like saying that we should trade Walsh to get Tom Mitchell because he has had more 40 possession games. :)

Bizarre isn't it, rating the effectiveness of a player purely on how many times he gets the ball

We consistently overpay:

Pick #8 for Saad (Essenden got him for a second rounder).
Pick #13 for McGovern (such potential...)
Overpaying Williams on potential...
Remember our famous pick #7 for 4 players swap...

Where is our respect for being so nice????

Really interested to see who the Pies let go to get more picks for Daicos

Or, will they be trying to get back into this draft with a future 1st

Another fire sale coming?
GWS still rubbing their hands together with pick 2 in their back pocket. Imagine the media vitriol if we had done that.

As for your asking of players who changed their mind during the trade period, both Mitch Clark and Kurt Tippett did it. Wanted to be 'traded home' then mysteriously ended up elsewhere. They had a sudden change of heart when they saw more money offered late in the piece. Rare, but has happened. Then there are the litany of players who have asked for trades, not gotten them and ended up staying. Bit different because they were all contracted, but it goes to show that things can change.

I had forgotten about Clark, I did some reading and Tippett never requested a trade to GC or Brisbane and only ever nominated the Swans, I’m sure the large offer was a big factor, but I was specifically interested in players changing their mind, mid draft period, so cheers for pointing Clark out, as you said, super rare.
