Hello Eagles fans!

The embedded resources below are kept up to date by the trade board mods (as much as possible – we are human after all). Enjoy!

So with Devon gone, we can take 5 in the draft and 1 rookie.

I did like the idea of WCE_phil of packaging up 53, 58 and a future R3 for Brockman and pick 30. That values Brockman as a pick 56 which is about right considering he is out of contract, probably moved to Perth already and we have the PSD threat plus history with Hawks and keeping the lid on Sam and his extra curricular activities.

Picks 53 and 58 will go out then come in fast once the other academy and FS picks are used before McCabe so should have enough points along with their current 49 to match McCabe. They can easily then sell our F3 which have a base value of around 40.

We then take to the 5 picks to the draft with picks 1, 20, 30, 34, 39

I would probably then try to do a deal with Sydney for 23 and offer them 34 and 39 for 23 since I think the bid will be there for Cleary.

Take 1, 20, 23, 30 and go an NGA pick at the end or an extra rookie or leave a SPS spot open.

Is the WA talent really that bad that the best player is pick 14.

I agree with most of what you said apart from trading our first pick next year and trading Yeo.

it's highly likely we will win the spoon and have pick 1 which is too much to be gambling on this year's draft. Plus there isn't no experience mids worth that available. Yeo is still a very good player. He would get us peanuts in the trade market so his much better to convince to stay. We need his experience now more then ever. Keep future pick 1 and keep Yeo

And just draft Reid.
Yes Key position bloke at 14 Ruck/Fwd/Defender type. You know what i mean ZZ/Livingstone this season and we need not bother.

And if we got an Oliver or another SNR Mid we would not finish bottom.

For all intensive purposes it looks like Crows will get him. Crows are my 2nd team. They go to premiership Favs with Oliver. Finished top For % this season. Oliver driving it into a well oiled fwd line will be exciting to watch.

Id trade Yeo for 30ish. Get us another academy bloke whos not busted.

I'd be interested in Dow or Hunter Clark as midfield support. Can we entice them and what would it cost us?

Trade wise? Not much both out of contract. Dollars wise, depends on what others are offering and we would have to be a bit up on that.

Hately could be worth a shot, Sam Berry if the Crows get Clarry, Will Brodie is an option, Bytel is another.

Everytime I hear people mention ZZ Top I get the song Lowrider by War in my head due to Napster and co mislabeling it 25 years ago.
If he pulls on an Eagles jumper you'll have Sharp Dressed Man stuck in your head

He’s failed to make an impression at two clubs. Just doesn’t have it. Too slow to be an outside player, not physical enough to be inside player.

Who jumps ahead of him to slide from 5-6 to 13-14?
It’s a big shift back from most public boards. Surely a few clubs agree that he’s a top 5ish prospect.
Theres plenty in the next bracket of players, if Curtin was from WA and one of our best player I think most people would have him in the 20s as the 3rd or 4th best KPD.

If he didn't have such a good kick (and it's not elite ) then I don't think he would be in the conversation.

Depends on Norf. They're the team that needs him most as their midfield is pretty much built. If they get R1 compo for McKay then they are a good chance of taking him. Everyone else be like, "you're KPD, f-off out of the top 5 and back to where you belong".
Not just needs or reaching for players , I think he's just not that good. If used right he can be a good part of a defence which he can set up with direction and leadership. But he's not a dominant KPD like McGovern, Barass, May, Andrews, Moore etc.

More like a taller Sicily who gets 15-20 disposals a week but isn't that damaging, and the oppo have a field day because he's so loose.

this has blown up badly on gossage

anyway enjoy being a benchwarmer at brissy dev. dont cry to us when you want more game time in two years
I reckon his career is likely over in 2 years. If he only adds another 20 games with low disposals, he suddenly becomes a mid 20s aged player that has never shown an ability to collect disposals.

I don't see how he gets into Lions best 22 with another Ashcroft coming along.

Have liked and rated him since seeing him in last years U18's.
Good goal sense and a bit of a live wire.
Have mentioned him a few times and really think a late 2nd rnd would not be a waste.

Oh and ummmmm

Just draft Reid already.
Worth a shot in the ND.
Plays mid too at colts level and WA looked a lot better whenever he went in there after spending 70% of the time forward.

Good summation of the Robertson situation from Mark Duffield

West Coast made no secret of their desire to lure Brisbane midfielder Deven Robertson home over this trade period, but the 22-year-old’s decision to stay put should be viewed as a minor setback rather than a crushing blow to the Eagles’ rebuild plans.
Robertson, known more for competitiveness and character than silky skills, would have brought a mature body and attitude to the Eagles midfield. The aim, as recruiter Rohan O’Brien put it yesterday, was to get players of the right age and character to build a new team with.

But it is a trap for bottom of the ladder clubs to think fringe midfielders at top end clubs will end up as mainstream midfielders in their developing line ups.

It is a credit to Robertson that he forced his way into the Lions senior team this year and played 16 games, including the grand final. He did so in the knowledge the return of Will Ashcroft to the senior team next year - and the arrival of Levi Ashcroft a year further on - would put his spot in the team in peril; a factor seemingly in West Coast’s favour.

By the same measure, had he made the move west, Reuben Ginbey and Elijah Hewett would be aiming to move past Robertson in the pecking order by 2025, their third seasons in AFL football.

If West Coast hold true to their stated aim of taking Harley Reid with the number one pick in the draft then he, by year two in the system, might also be ahead of Robertson. Throw in Tim Kelly and Dom Sheed and Robertson could have found himself almost as far down the midfield pecking order at the Eagles as at Brisbane.

Robertson would have brought some depth to the Eagles engine room but what they really need is quality. That quality is going to come from players like Ginbey, Hewett and Reid.

Robertson, the nephew of former Eagles skipper Darren Glass, has outstanding character and is a willing and strong worker around the contest which enabled him to play a role in Brisbane’s push to the grand final, playing 13 of the club’s last 15 games this year.

He wasn’t their worst on grand final day either, with 13 disposals and a goal enough to keep him on the field when Chris Fagan made the call to sub Callum Ah Chee out.

Robertson has also shown a capacity to work hard to fight his way into the Lions’ senior team late in seasons when finals were looming, a sign of his character. He has played 41 games but seven of them have been finals. In 2022, three of his eight matches were finals and he performed creditably in them.

But one of the things that has served the Eagles well over their history is the willingness to use the draft during their brief visits to the bottom of the ladder.

It is where clubs build top end quality from and West Coast, who don’t face the short term financial pressures many other clubs do, can take the picks and take the time that the picks take to develop.

They will pick up GWS big man Matt Flynn as a free agent to bolster their ruck stocks and put support around the improved Bailey Williams. They are in the box seat to take Tyler Brockman from Hawthorn. West Coast is aiming to trade for Brockman but they can use the pre-season draft as a lever to make sure they don’t pay too much for the 20-year-old forward.

They currently have four picks inside 40 in the draft order, perhaps more if a rival club comes with an outrageous offer to try and get their hands on Reid.

They should stay the course and take the picks now.

Couldn't give two stuffs about Dev.
His average player and dead to me now.

We need natural ball winners that can read the play, not stand back and hope for the best which is what Dev does. Dev is in no man's land at Lions. Door closed for good now. Never to be opened again for him.

Not next year as that's Brisbane's last chance at a flag but we will be passing him when we are on the way up the ladder while the Lions window is shut and start falling. Wave and say goodbye no thanks see ya later.
Unsure if it's a genuine grammar mistake, or it's part of your general schtick/how your creative juices flow, because it's in almost every post you make but...

He's is the short form of 'he is' or 'he has'.
For example: " Don't be scared - he's very friendly."

His is a possessive pronoun, it is used to show something belonging to or connected with a man, boy or male animal that has just been mentioned.
For example: "Mark just phoned to say he'd left his coat behind. He's very worried. Do you know if this is his?"

I've been biting my tongue all season (and it's been f*king killing me), but I've said it now.

You're welcome

Otherwise, content usually on point. Love your work.

THE A5

Why is it every year people still want to take other teams rejects. Hasn't worked out well for us in the past. These guys get delisted for a reason. Stick to the draft.

Hunt worked out pretty good for us last year. Many other examples across the league.

And yes, many just wash out too. But it's a free swing at AFL level talent who may be squeezed out due to salary cap or positional excesses. Why not back yourself in?

Can do both. Taking on one delisted player in a position of news isn’t going to hurt. Will still take 4-5 picks in the draft.

Jones has been good.

2 blokes played in a GF that were delisted. Lyons and Markov. It can work and if the fit is right do it.
