With Butters looking like he's staying at Port, and Pies with no picks, Trac in our midfield and forward line would do me. We have to go all out for a flag while Bont is still in his prime, otherwise what's the bloody point?
I'd go all out for Trac. In a heartbeat.

He'll play into his 30s as a Leigh Matthews type forward. You could hardly find a better player for Hynes to model himself after as well.

Keep an eye on Hawks if Reid stays in WA

He's going to get paid a motza regardless of where he goes (or if he stays), so that pretty much rules out smaller market clubs given the exposure he'd get from bigger clubs. Agree with you though, there aren't many on the list I wouldn't offer to bring him across.

ED RICHARDS (Western Bulldogs – Restricted Free Agent)

Glenn McFarlane says:
“He stays. I’m convinced he stays. He’s such an important player there. They’ve got a couple of ones done, the Dogs, but this is a real priority to get it done now. I reckon he’ll be looking at a five or a six-year deal. He’s a really good player and such an important player going forward. Don’t worry, there’s plenty of interest, but I’m pretty certain he’ll end up staying.”

MARCUS BONTEMPELLI (Western Bulldogs – Unrestricted Free Agent)

Lauren Wood says:
“He still has not re-signed! He said at the start of the season – and I asked him 18 different ways – ‘When? How? How much? How long?’– he was adamant it wasn’t part of his psyche, ‘we want to get off to a good start to the season’. Surely he is staying …”

Josh Barnes says: “What’s he doing on the list?! It would be the biggest ripple in many, many years if he decided to pack up and walk out of the Bulldogs. He just has to stay. He’s an ornament of the club, he’s the best player they’ve ever had potentially. It’s just impossible to imagine him in another jumper isn’t it?”

I’ve read that on gettable they said Port will get aggressive trying to lock in Butters. Will be interesting to see what he does.
It's what we should've done with a few of our players.

Ask them to commit long term (or at least beyond a year) and if they don't, trade them for overs.

That's not really what is happening here though. Port won't trade Butters unless he requests a trade this year and even then, I doubt it.

He’s going to be a dad? /s

Bont and Partner Announce Three Reasons to Celebrate

Marcus Bontempelli and his fiancé, Neila Brenning, have announced to the football world that they are expecting triplets. And, in an exclusive interview, the happy couple maintain that this is only the beginning.

"Yeah, we want a large family," Bontempelli says. My great-grandparents on both sides had 23 children between them. My grandparents have over 50 siblings and I've lost count of the aunties, uncles and cousins I have. Neila and I have talked about it and we're on the same page. I don't want to give too much away, but I've just bought a property outside of Ballarat that has 17 bedrooms."

The first of Bontempelli's and Brenning's progeny will be eligible for the AFL/AFLW drafts in 2043.

I'm actually not convinced every club would. I think it's reasonable to say every club would consider him - for sure, but this is such a unique situation. If AFL clubs knew there was a chance they'd have to pay a player 800k and it's more likely than unlikely that he is a real problem, then it's just not worth it.

It's telling that not only do the Bulldog players not interact with him on social media, but by and large no footballers do - there were times where Clayton Oliver was, but even that seems to have passed.
They would have to be convinced, by Jamarra himself, that he was committed to following the club’s rules and giving his best consistently over the duration of the contract. That would be a huge turnaround.

NEXT FREE AGENCY MOVES

WESTERN Bulldogs midfielder Ed Richards is expected to be the next big name to wipe his name off the free agency list.

Richards was one of just five remaining restricted free agents left on the AFL's official free agency list it distributed to clubs on Monday.

But rival clubs are aware Richards is intent on staying at the Dogs, with Gettable revealing this month that he was in discussions on a five or six-year extension that would see him join 'Club 2030' as the players around the competition signed to at least 2030.

Clubs are watching with fascination on Bulldogs skipper Marcus Bontempelli's contract talks, with discussions not yet progressed.

The champion Bulldog is set to return from his calf injury this week against St Kilda but has been comfortable holding off his contract talks as an unrestricted free agent.
