Its us or port for butters
Definitely not, I am 58 and intend hitting emotional mature sometime in my 80'sDoes that include BF posters??!!![]()
Edit: I'm not trying to start an ageist argument btw, that was a dig at all of us, including myself!

Hate to be the prick in everyone’s balloon, but the chances of Butters coming to us would be almost zilch.
Can’t think of any A grader in their prime ever coming to the dogs, Richard Osborne the closest maybe ???
That’s 60+ years of following this club.
Based on? Or just a hunch or guess?
I would be surprised if Butters left Port. Since he was drafted they’ve built the club around him and Rozee. He’ll get crazy money to stay
Guess we've just got to do a Cotton On and sell the dream. Lifetime supply of Mission Corn Chips, an apartment block in Footscray built by Kapitol, a fleet of Toyotas, what else can we offer?
To what end maturity is over ratedDefinitely not, I am 58 and intend hitting emotional mature sometime in my 80's
It's a very, very short list of players though - Western Jets are usually producing among fewest drafted players among all of the 12 NAB league teams (I am discounting the Keilor region even though it's a Jets region for what we consider Dogs supporter areas western suburbs)Even though I was laughed at last time I suggested it, we should def be targeting western suburbs talent. Try and offer something that other clubs can’t.

We did absolutely SFA due diligence on draftees in the Clayton years but since then we’ve apparently done a heap every year. For me, this is one of the big things to come out of this and tragically we are uniquely positioned to learn from it.
There absolutely must be early indicators in character assessment that point to this sort of potential outcome. And we should leave no stone unturned to find them before they bite us.
RyanI'd love to have Butters on our team. The downside though, is it may cost us a bit in draft capital. And we badly need to make sure we still have the resources and decent picks to address other needs. Our forward line, and half our midfield are now young. But we still need a couple more mids at some point.
Key defence is what worries me at the moment. Jones looks like time has caught up, Lobb won't be too far off. JOD, Buss and Khamis are all your floating interceptor types. Not the key man on man lock down types. Who will be our next physical defender who can hold their own on the Curnows of this league? They are hard to find, and not cheap. And draftee versions take a long time to develop. Might have to settle for free agency, or fringe players at this point.

Butters is only 25 so it’s not like he’ll blow our age profile out. You’d be banking on 7+ seasons out of him. Butters, Richards, Freijah, Sanders would be an elite young midfield group.I'd love to have Butters on our team. The downside though, is it may cost us a bit in draft capital. One of the more baffling long-term extensions in recent years. Will likely end up barely having played a senior game during its term.Ryan
Ryan Gardener
We presented him with a long term contract which I am sure will deliver as he continues to mature in the VFL![]()
Tend to agree Busslinger is only 21 he can get stronger yet to be able to hold his own 1v1 if he makes the grade. It would appear the club is pretty confident as Jones came out to give him a spot.Butters is only 25 so it’s not like he’ll blow our age profile out. You’d be banking on 7+ seasons out of him. Only real hole is KPD and even that is softened if Buss lives up to potential and/or Croft moves down back
Croft has a strong athletic profile so moving him around in his development years makes sense. Kinda like grad rotation in a big company.I'd like to see what Croft can do in defence. We seem to want him to develop anywhere but there though.
