Does that include BF posters??!! 🤔 😄😄😄

Edit: I'm not trying to start an ageist argument btw, that was a dig at all of us, including myself!
Definitely not, I am 58 and intend hitting emotional mature sometime in my 80's

Hate to be the prick in everyone’s balloon, but the chances of Butters coming to us would be almost zilch.
Can’t think of any A grader in their prime ever coming to the dogs, Richard Osborne the closest maybe ???
That’s 60+ years of following this club.

Go take a look at our facilities.
We are no longer a small minnow club. Our off field is not the same as it once was. Give it some time.

Based on? Or just a hunch or guess?

Their have been some murmurings, but nothing you can call a viable source. I
may have missed a big development that gives real credibility. But for now -

Its Just a Hunch. We're really clinging tight to the childhood club factor, His on paper idolisation of Bont and murmurings of his dissatisfaction at Port.

And we can effectively sell the dream. Especially since Bont and Darcy pending disastrous circumstances should be top 5 In the comp next season. We have GREAT depth and a favourable blend of exuberant youth and class.

I would be surprised if Butters left Port. Since he was drafted they’ve built the club around him and Rozee. He’ll get crazy money to stay

Guess we've just got to do a Cotton On and sell the dream. Lifetime supply of Mission Corn Chips, an apartment block in Footscray built by Kapitol, a fleet of Toyotas, what else can we offer?

Things seem to change in footy a lot quicker than people realise.

A few years ago no one wanted to go to Brisbane, now they get everyone. Don’t think the hawks were attracting anyone in the early 2000’s. Same with the cats. Freo could only get rejects.

Sure, the big clubs are always gonna get good players, but other clubs can get them too.

Even though I was laughed at last time I suggested it, we should def be targeting western suburbs talent. Try and offer something that other clubs can’t.

It's a very, very short list of players though - Western Jets are usually producing among fewest drafted players among all of the 12 NAB league teams (I am discounting the Keilor region even though it's a Jets region for what we consider Dogs supporter areas western suburbs)

You can basically count on one hand the currently listed players that would make our best 22, and that's before you even get into settled players with long-term contracts or the fact we have no need to recruit a player in that position like Xerri in the ruck.

A pair of Asics, a carton of Pirate Life, and some Bitcoin in a Coinspot account.

For me, this is one of the big things to come out of this and tragically we are uniquely positioned to learn from it.

There absolutely must be early indicators in character assessment that point to this sort of potential outcome. And we should leave no stone unturned to find them before they bite us.
We did absolutely SFA due diligence on draftees in the Clayton years but since then we’ve apparently done a heap every year.

I think there are just some things you can’t pick up from interviewes, meeting the families etc. Even then, Libba, Hunter and Stringer were a handful off field at times but all played significant roles in a flag so you don’t necessarily put a line through them.

There might be some things we could tighten up but you’re picking teenage boys who are still growing up. Someone of them are going to go down the wrong path. I doubt there were many signs with Cousins etc either.

I'd love to have Butters on our team. The downside though, is it may cost us a bit in draft capital. And we badly need to make sure we still have the resources and decent picks to address other needs. Our forward line, and half our midfield are now young. But we still need a couple more mids at some point.

Key defence is what worries me at the moment. Jones looks like time has caught up, Lobb won't be too far off. JOD, Buss and Khamis are all your floating interceptor types. Not the key man on man lock down types. Who will be our next physical defender who can hold their own on the Curnows of this league? They are hard to find, and not cheap. And draftee versions take a long time to develop. Might have to settle for free agency, or fringe players at this point.

We presented him with a long term contract which I am sure will deliver as he continues to mature in the VFL 😁

Butters is only 25 so it’s not like he’ll blow our age profile out. You’d be banking on 7+ seasons out of him. Butters, Richards, Freijah, Sanders would be an elite young midfield group.

Only real hole is KPD and even that is softened if Buss lives up to potential and/or Croft moves down back

One of the more baffling long-term extensions in recent years. Will likely end up barely having played a senior game during its term.

Tend to agree Busslinger is only 21 he can get stronger yet to be able to hold his own 1v1 if he makes the grade. It would appear the club is pretty confident as Jones came out to give him a spot.

And Busslinger isn't a first year draftee he has had 2 years development in the VFL. Still going to take time for him to adjust to the pace see Sanders as a case but he could come on reasonably quickly.

I would like to see Croft tried as a Harris Andrews style deep defender. Has all the right physical attributes to do it and more importantly the combative nature to make it.

The pieces are possibly already with us for the next iteration of our KPD stocks. Could certainly add a fringe lockdown type defender that you would think wouldn't be too costly to shore up the defence in the short term.

On the evidence presented we as a club are pretty good at identifying areas of need and drafting accordingly.

If Butters is a chance you pay what it takes for a prime aged star mid. As that sets a precedent and might sway others in the future. And who knows maybe he is the missing piece like when Prestia went to the tigers before they went on their dynasty run.

Any chance available to get another Flag for Bont you stump up the cost and have a red hot crack IMO

I'd like to see what Croft can do in defence. We seem to want him to develop anywhere but there though.
Croft has a strong athletic profile so moving him around in his development years makes sense. Kinda like grad rotation in a big company.
From the little I’ve seen, he hasn’t (yet) got the footy instincts to match his athleticism. Which is strange given he grew up in a footy family. Must’ve been one of those rebellious kids that wanted to do the opposite of his dad :)

Lifetime supply of Mars bars for him, and dog food for his furry friend 🐶

My understanding is we have a few father & son and acadamedy picks next year. That really softens the blow.

It’ll be a deal for this and next years first if you can land butters. And if his open to come you make it happen.

I hope butters dad who I understand is bulldogs man hates Geelong as much of all of us and that is engrained in Zak.
