There is zero chance we get a current best 22 player from Brisbane in any hypothetical Dunkley trade. We keep saying we'll walk away from Lobb should the price be too high, the same can be said for Brissy. They are getting Dunkley to load up, not to let one of their young stars go the other way.
thats most likely true,

i think Rayner for Dunkley is a break even trade but unlikely to happen, even though i think they know as i do that Rayner is massively overrated and his output to date is mediocre even considering the ACL.

what i would hate to happen is a second rounder plus Payne, i would spew up, while Payne has upside and a great physique, right now he is no better than any of our key backs, he is dumb footballer

“I hope we can all work together to get the best result for all parties, just as we will look to do with Griffin Logue.”
This is Colin Young sending a warning that if they don’t play nice on Lobb then he won’t play nice on Logue. There’s no other reason to mention Logue in his response.

Kai Lohmann isn't best 22 and has been mentioned a few times, and if we did have interest in Darcy Gardiner he's a FA so Brisbane would be resigned to losing him anyway.

There's every chance they 'game' the system by trading a future first to us and going into a points deficit this year as then the deficit will only be applied to later picks next year. We might have a handshake Gardiner FA bid as well so they get extra points this year. There are quite a few ways the two clubs could make this work.
Sammy Power will also say “we really like the look of Jaspa Fletcher with our first rounder but I think with 2 firsts next year we would probably push out drafting for that need by 12 months”

Rayner has leveled up in the past 10 weeks or so. Had some match winning performances of late. Saints and Giants games he played very well. He's unobtainable though.

If Power is as good as they say I hope he talks to the GC if dunkley wants to move back for "family reasons". GC have the picks and obtainable players for a more suitable trade. They also now have at least 650k cap space cleared due to Rankine and probably more if they let fiorini go.

They could blow any Brisbane deal out of the water. At the very least if pressures the lions to find something better than what they have to offer at the moment.

i wonder what our plan B is if the Lobb deal cant be done
It'll get done no different to the Treloar/Bruce/Keath trades Ding Dong is just trying to make himself look tough for the fans for now but once they get Jackson and Corbett he will fold

Yeah, I'm sure the Suns would love Dunkley and the GC is in Queensland Josh, so can't be too fussy.

Bit rich for Freo to demand Lobb as a contracted player, but then refuse to guarantee him an extension on his contract.

Lobb can rightfully say "I'm 30, it's important that I go to a club that will gurantee me two more years when you won't".

Rayner is not coming. Have a look at how much he and his old man love that club in the video they posted after the game. It’s infectious.

Re: Lobb, it’s interesting that his manager mentions Logue. I agree that’s a vague threat to Freo that if Lobb isn’t traded, Logue goes through the preseason draft with little issue. I hope they make the trade period doco again because this years version will be very good viewing.

I thought their cap was cooked and then they give Ben Long 4 years!

What’s the story with 29 year old Luke Brown retiring? Gun small defender.

Warming up to Dev Robertson plus a first for Dunks. Robertson wont fit in the midfield at Brissie and he can bridge a gap for us and will get mid time. Makes sense for him if he wants to further his career as Dunks and Ashcroft are going to take his mid mins

Is Dev a WA boy?

Colin Young. Manages both, and their coach, and about 1/3rd of their list.
Interesting times

Soldo is an out and out ruck though isn’t he? Not really a forward.
He's one of the few rucks with decent forward-craft. He would have been a great get last year, and by all reports we were pretty close.

How would Logue look at that? I know that if my manager was making my deal needlessly difficult for the purpose of one of his other clients, I'd be looking for a new manager asap

I'm fairly certain I read that this was happening...

EDIT: And now I go looking for any evidence and find nothing...

I agree, he’s still got time though especially coming off the knee. Out of interest how old is he compared to Petracca when he did his knee? Feel like they’ve both been similarly underwhelming pre knee, Petracca obviously exploded afterwards but remains to be seen whether Rayner will do the same

Petracca has always got more of the ball than Cam, even pre doing is knee. What I would say about Cam is that he's probably never going to spend more than 40% of his game time in the midfield, but has shown he can be a match winner - e.g. kicking 4 goals in the second half against the saints.

In any case, he's contracted until 2025 and by all reports very happy so don't see him coming up in a trade at all.

You won't be given a second rounder for Dunkley if he picks Brisbane - we've shown ourselves to be very reasonable in terms of getting deals done.

Its a complicated situation with draft points but if we can get enough later picks in could easily see you getting our first this year and next year. You'd definitely prefer Port giving you pick 8 over that I'm sure though.

Payne I tend to agree with you a bit, if Adams didn't have lingering concussion issues I'd be happy to trade him.

I've seen a few people say that we need to get players rather than picks for Dunkley because we need immediate impact, but I think the notion that first year draftees can't impact from day 1 is false - particularly when looking at the top end of the draft.

I think that bringing in a 'ready to go' mid with a bit of pace and tidy skills would likely spark the team more than whatever B graders a club is going to be prepared to let go in a trade.

Chasing targets that we want is a completely separate equation to maximizing our return for Dunkley.

Depends if he’s still annoyed at the garbage offer he got at the start of the year and if he’s mates with Lobb.

If his manager is saying “the club tried to screw you over, they promised Rory they'd trade him and now they won’t, **** these pricks let’s use the PSD and North can use their pick #19 to bring in another good player to play beside you” then Logue might just say “yeah whatever just get me a good contract”
