You need to actually have the salary cap space to match a bid. His a good player but definitely wouldn’t pay a million a season for him
Salary cap to match isn't a meaningful roadblock. Any contract more than three years they can park all the excess cash in year 3+ where they won't have players contracted.

GWS absolutely could not afford Cameron's contract when they matched but it didn't matter.

What do Blues fans see as a reasonable salary for a six year deal? Average out at 850k a year?
Looks about right to me.
We were in the market for Lynch right before our cap imploded. Just because the media says a thing doesn't make it true.
Just because there are reports about Carlton being into Hayward, Houston and Petracca doesn't mean much.
The way Owies and Martin wernt really offered a contract despite being solid players.
Owies is a very limited player. Don't let the jumper tugs cloud your judgement. Martin was delisted due to being injured literally all of the time.
The way Kennedy and Young were shopped around despite having contracts was another sign.
Kennedy is the same type of midfielder as Cripps/Hewett/Cerra. You can't play all four in a team and he had the most trade value. Young has been shite apart from 2022 and was rightly told to explore his options but had zero takers. Hopefully that has lit a fire under him.
The way Carlton stayed as far away as possible from any major trades. Surely pick 3 gets you in the convo for the perfect player for Carlton Petracca.
Petracca was never leaving Melbourne this year, so there's that. Houston is a gun, but it never made sense for us.

Our list management team are trying to build for sustained success rather than loading up for a 3 year window. People say our window is done when Cripps retires and that may be true. But taking Jagga at 3 with Cody Walker on his way in a couple of years gives us a chance to rebuild on the run and continue contending beyond what is normally expected.
Why would a contender strip away 4 players who are at worst borderline 22 and not try to really improve their list in the short term. The window is open but it is about to close. Why not go all in for now?
I assume you're referring to Martin/Carroll/Owies/Kennedy as the four players. All of them have serious limitations to their game. Martin's is injuries. The rest is skill and foot speed. Everyone knows we are a slow team and in order to get faster types in we needed to make room in the team.

We have some younger players on the list that we hope will step up to fill the void and provide better balance in the side. Time will tell if it works, but there are plenty of examples across the league where it has. Collingwood are a prime example.

Martin was made of cellophane, Owies was an extremely limited footballer who most of our fans wanted dropped and Young has issues working alongside Weitering from all reports.

Kennedy is fair game but he wanted to leave.

I also think using Ned Guy butchering your cap space as a reason as to why we'd be in the same situation is a bit laughable.

More importantly, if we did just lose 4 quality senior players would we have not just cleared up plenty of space going into this year where we have another 17 OOC?

Just because you loss x amount of players doesn't mean the money is there..

No matter how or what way you slice and dice it, we all know that Carlton has a salary cap issue.

They essentially paid more for pick 3 (Jagga Smith) than they would've for Houston. Don't give me this crap about list demographic, blah, blah, blah. Only Carlton fans are stupid enough to not believe it.

Literally couldn't be happier we took Jagga over Houston, far more of a need for us than Houston.

Pies fans want to live in La La land making out as if we're under massive cap problems and we missed out on Houston because of it... Keep dreaming of our downfall campaigner 😂

How does losing 5 decently paid players not equate to having cap space now?

People are also making out as if TDK is on $0 currently... His current contract is still quite a generous one, we'll have no issues making up the difference for his new one.

You already budgeted for most of them leaving before everyones new contracts. Only ones you wouldnt have is Owies and Kennedy . I do feel both happened to up TDKs offer to the 1 mill mark but still think Essendon will go insane and go crazy abvove that

We all know also that Houston wasnt coming unless Lewis Young left. A reason for that is because of the salary cap

Oh, I'll keep dreaming don't you worry. You keep fantasising about rebuilding on the run and thinking a first-year player is going to catapult you into a grand final.

Who are the younger players? Always suspicous of stuff like this. If you had faith youd have just named them in that post. Seems to me more wishful thinking then anything with true substance

I look at the list and think. Is Ashton Moir kicking 33 goals next year? Absolutely not. Is Jagga Smith getting 18 possessions 1 goal a game and getting 31 possessions 1 goal in a game vs Geelong? Absolutely not. This is a loss of productivity nothing is truly replacing at that level. It is a step backwards to take a step forward. Maube in 2026 it will be different but in 2025 these are not winning moves

I think all Blues fans are aware Jagga isn't going to single handedly catapult us into a grand final lmao. Nor would Houston have.

Much rather have the midfielder we get 10-15 years out of than the half back we get 5-6 from.

When in Premiership mode id rather the latter. Its a bad fit list profile wise.

The way you and some of your fans are acting, it’s like you drafted C. Judd.

You just better hope that Carlton makes the 8 next year because 2025 1st and 2nd are in the hands of the Hawks. Also, your first pick in 2025 is a 2nd rounder tied to Brisbane, so you most likely won't be picking up anyone until very late in the 2nd round.

Are we? I think the more likely answer is the Pies fans are still feeling insecure that Houston wanted to go to the Blues over them, so in turn the Pies fans are desperate to make it seem like we made the biggest mistake of all time taking a kid instead.

Don't reckon I've seen any Blues fans getting too carried away with Jagga, we're all happy with what he's shown but I've barely seen a post on here saying he's the second coming.

As for our future picks? As always, you've got no idea what you're talking about. We have 3 NGA kids coming through in 2025 so our 2nd rounder is likely just used for points matching.
