I think you can base your references off of what you choose not to watch

ie we watched World of Disney instead of Countdown but we knew Countdown

Similar to Seinfeld and Friends - you may not have watched them but you knew they were around

I think GoT will be the same - people may not have watched it but they will know Red Wedding and Arya

I reckon Seinfeld is borderline "you should know this". Not every reference from every show but if you are confused at a trivia night by 'which show about nothing featured Jerry, Elaine, Kramer and George?' give it away.

Won't be long before people don't know what Game of Thrones is. Which is probably a good thing. Maybe we can expunge the last two seasons so future generations can rewatch and still think it's great.
Yeah, Simpsons, Friends and Seinfeld the most likely to cross all generations.

Though apparently Netflix is giving new life to some shows. Apparently House is a big hit with younger viewers at the moment.

I have no idea what those refer to. I've only had FTA TV since returning to Australia seven years ago. I did have premium cable in the states with HBO, but I never watched GoT. I know my niece and her husband were big fans.

Have not watched an episode nor read the book(s) the series was based on and probably never will. The premise never interested me. I only know of one person from it because she was in a failed Terminator movie!

I wonder how Monty Python goes these days?

Yeah, I only started assembling some of the shaped display stuff last night.
Running waaaaay behind this year courtesy of recent chest infection.

Plus added more after Xmas last year + more from Costco this year so no idea where to fit them all in.

Big weekend of light installation coming up...

See, that I understand, but some things transcend regular pop culture. Not knowing what Smells Like Teen Spirit is would be like me not knowing what the White Album by the Beatles was. It wasn't my jam as a young adult but I bloody well knew what it was.
Dude I was working at a fast food restaurant 5 years after it released and half the 16 year olds had never heard of it then

My favourite was the Scottish guy Frazer. One night they were camped out in some dark place so he started telling scary stories. "Did you hear about the empty barn?" The lads gathered closer around him. "There was nothing in it!"
We’ve just finished watching every episode over several months on Fox. Also liked Walker - James Beck - and his jokes and shady deals. Shame he died.

I wish I could get a life sized Clark Griswold mannequin to add to the display, would be awesome.

Had a doctor visit today that wasn't the best. I have a few relatives that have had serious heart attacks and I guess it looks like my blood pressure is a concern. Got a bit of a kick up ass. Probably haven't been looking after myself the best over the past year or so. She said we'll check things again in 3 months so going to try make a few changes.

Not the best news but hopefully in time to avoid anything scary!

there are some things where if you were 8-80 at the time you couldn’t not know of it, even if only very vaguely. It is a really high bar to clear though. For instance Biden conceding the 2024 nomination was apparently news to some when they rocked up on Election Day.

Name recognition is a good test, helps to have a distinct name that can’t be mistaken. Jo Blo could do the most outrageous thing and you’d forget about it two months later. Name-killer notoriety.

I liked Ted Danson in Becker as well.

I never got into watching Becker even though I liked Ted Danson in Cheers, the same with Frasier even though I liked Kelsey Grammer in Cheers, what made Cheers so good was that it didn't rely on one comedy star it had an ensemble of comedy stars.

Seinfeld was the main sitcom I watched in the 90s, I liked NewsRadio too until Phil Hartman was killed and replaced by Jon Lovitz.

Ted Danson was pretty pretty good in Curb Your Enthusiasm where he shacked up with Lafry's old missus Cheryl after they split.

I think Larry was a fan of Ted's from Cheers, it used to be the lead in sitcom for Seinfeld on NBC which helped it become popular.
