The toughest ever players for North...

Paul Spargo had a bit about him. I remember watching him crash through about 3 or 4 tigers in a praccy game out at Bayswater yonks ago. The boy Teague was a similar fearless tough like the Crazy Cat Leigh Colbert. Always got the better of that poser Aaron Hamill ... onya Teaguey. Micky Firrito and the short career of Brett Chandler.

A few tough buggers in here albeit a few cheap shots thrown as well

No Johnny Law or Arch in this clip but those two along with Duck & Jimmy get the votes from my time following the Roos

Phil Krakouer would have a mortgage on goal of the year if he played now.

Schimma is one of our most courageous ever
Spud firrito under rated toughness - can’t remember him ever being floored

Yep Phil Krakouer was a marvel
Was at this game a Friday night special (we won 16 points)
Such good memories & amongst my favourite ever North highlights

Watched the replay countless times called by legendary Lou Richards 👍

I started seriously supporting the kangas when I was in Primary School in the early 70's. Top 5 for me during this time, not in order just as a group of hard nuts. Wayne Schimmelbusch, Jim Krakuoer, Glen Archer, Barry Cable (can I still mention him given his you know what!), Mick Martyn. So not in any order and it's obvious I've left out plenty of hard nuts and super talented players also, most noticeably Carey.

Over recent years you’d have to include Ziebell, Cunners and Greenwood.

Levi Greenwood’s courage and toughness was underrated imo.

All 3 would’ve been at home playing in the early 90’s.

Swallow another one too

Yeah Ziebell kicking 4 (or was it 5?) against Collingwood with a broken collarbone and fractured ribs is insanely tough

. Phil Ryan
. Richard Micalczyk
. Kevin Bryant
. Johnny Law

Few to add to the list l'd have in the backline.

I listened to an interview with Law on SEN a few years ago… they used to play basketball but they all wore a boxing glove on one hand. They were allowed to punch each other with that hand.

He said he was coming to the end of his career, a senior player, so they decided to play the game… anyway there were a bunch of new kids and Law gave one of the young blokes a couple to the ribs. He said next bit of play when the ball was back on court in his area, the kid gave him a few of his own back, very quick, left him winded. Law says, that kid was Wayne Carey.

Why would that not surprise anybody here 👍

What year was this? I thought he kicked 4 in our win against them in a dead rubber during the 2013 season.

I still maintain 2012-14 was better than what he produced later in his career. Powerful footballer putting teams to the sword from his lethal goal kicking.

Laurie Icke has to get a mention. He was part of the backline that was renowned for its tough players. Have a vague memory of my old man telling me about Laurie Icke being a bit a of mad man once he crossed the white line.

This quote is from an interview with Ron Branton by Matt Zurbo on The Footy Almanac:

"Max wasn’t as tough as they say, he was tougher! (laughs) There were three players in my life that were that hard. One was Max, there was a Laurie Icke who became some player, a hard man for North Melbourne, and Mopsy Fraser. Honestly, I thought they’d kill someone to get a footy they were that tough!"

Just checked, it was 2017, he kicked 5 against Collingwood
