Having thought about it I’m kind of happy now to drop the motto. Strength through loyalty has been holding us back. It should be strength through success.

The more I see it, the more I hate it
I was lucky enough to go to the unveiling yesterday and the first thing I saw were the glaring problems of mediocre logo craftsmanship. This was exaggerated by the CEO parroting jargon about the need to update the crest for a 'digital age'. This would be good and all, but the logo doesn't even do that. I opened my phone and saw this email below. The weird need to muddy the logo with a weird double stroke (one white, one black) serves no purpose at all. Even the mid war folk who created the 1933 logo were able to use a strong single stroke.

The 2 strokes, which turn into 3 on a non-white background.

3!! pointless strokes. Plus the joy inconsistent reds.

Losing the ribbon is a mistake. It has been on every Saints' jumper since 1933, and carried a classiness and classic feel. It create a balance of when used with the top heavy crest shape. The new 'ribbon', if you can call it that, clashes heavily with the classic and simple crest with another thin and sharp stroke.
I wish we took the route of a cleaning up, rather than a redesign. See numerous EPL and European soccer clubs simply cleaning up timeless logos, instead of changing them.

Lastly the motto. Only using it in marketing is a bit of a kick in the nuts to those supporters who love the club and its historical players. Loyalty is what has kept us existing. I think of all the crazy idiots like me who have shown up week on week to support the team when we'd surely get smashed and barely getting 20,000 at a home game. I think of Barks, Buckets and Roo who said no to getting more money to go to bigger and stronger clubs. A bit of the soul has been lost with the removal of the motto.
I was thinking the exact same thing as I was lying in bed last night.Having thought about it I’m kind of happy now to drop the motto. Strength through loyalty has been holding us back. It should be strength through success.
Yep, needed to be balance out the ribbon now going over the shield. The horizontal part of the new cross is higher, right?
I didn't claim to be "owed" anything. I'm well aware that clubs, like all businesses, care more about attracting new customers/fans than retaining their existing ones, despite studies showing it's far more expensive to do so. I foolishly thought that loyalty might be a two way street, and the club might think of me as more than a number and a dollar sign. That's clearly not the case.93
Is that all?
I demand more loyalty
Been here since 85
We are owed nothing
That would be on a coloured background. Compare mine on a white background and you'll see what I mean. It has one stroke to the Saints' current one having 2. Goes back to K.I.S.S. A kid should be able to draw a logo from memory. The new one doesn’t have a double stroke in the first example. The negative space of the white (1 - in your markup) gives the appearance of one. But it’s not actually a full line. And the second new one doesn’t even need the thin white around it. They can drop that off if they want.
Your version literally actually has a full double stroke around it.
Frankly, I prefer the saints one to your version. And the banner has just been shrunk, it’s still there. It’s all opinions so don’t get so worked up. No old player is crying in bed because it says the motto on the collar instead of the logo.

Looks like little T-rex arms sticking out the side haha!Played around some more.
Got rid of the ribbon shadows that make no sense given that shape of the ribbon.
Also, the text on the ribbon should be curved (if the ribbon is curved) or straight if the ribbon is straight.

I feel the lack of the old ribbon leaves it feeling incomplete. The balance is off with nothing 'rounding out' the bottom of the shield. Not to mention a motto so synonymous with the history of the club being shunned for simplicities' sake is the marketing version of shooting yourself in the foot. A lot of the Aussie Rules' community know strength through loyalty is a uniquely St Kilda thing. Half the comp would kill for that brand recognition.
I'm so worked up I can't feel my hands. Literally shaking rn
The form of the new crest is poorly done. Pointless strokes and inconsistent line weights. Look at the famous crests of Barcelona and PSG - simple uniform lines, such as kid could draw them. You’re critiquing the new one because “a kid should be able to draw a logo from memory.” But also “the new one is shunning history for simplicity”? So which simpler?
Also, at best 50% of saint supporters would know “strength through loyalty”. And 0% of oppo supporters would know it. You are dreaming that anyone is jealous of our motto.

I'd be shocked if only 50% knew it, I've always considered it one of our most iconic features. Also, at best 50% of saint supporters would know “strength through loyalty”. And 0% of oppo supporters would know it. You are dreaming that anyone is jealous of our motto.

What's Carlton's motto?I'd be shocked if only 50% knew it, I've always considered it one of our most iconic features.
I'd guess more than 50% would know the acting motto (allowing for spelling and pronunciation errors)
From memory it's something about corporate men in a sauna. Have never known what it is, I'm sure a lot of Carlton supporters do though. What's Carlton's motto?

I'm still not knocking anyone who likes the logo, or insulting their intelligence. I'm saying I don't like it. I'm allowed to not like it without being belittled by strangers online.
"They know we're coming"What's Carlton's motto?

I've always remembered it because it's on the logo I grew up with (literally the year I was born), but I'm not sure on others as we keep backflipping on it.How do Carlton's supporters feel about it? Is it still part of your club logo? What would happen if it wasn't?

See, there's your issue already. He thought the logo is only from 1995, not the 1930s.View attachment 2181889
