Sick of Melbourne tbh. My gypsy arse would love to get out of here and head towards Byron Bay, but I'm stuck here until at least when my kids finish high school.
I would love to **** off too, but the missus is very family orientated and with two young grand kids, can barely get her to go away for 2 weeks.
Off to Thailand and Sumatra in a couple of weeks and she has started her complaining 🤣🤣

I have a mate who did that after his kids finished school. He lasted about nine months - turns out moving away from all your friends at like 50 isn’t the easiest thing!

I grew up in Sydney... spent 5 years in Brisbane, then moved to Melbourne. My closest friends live near Byron.

I'd have no trouble moving. I love a fresh start. Somewhere on the Sunshine Coast in QLD is also attractive to me.

Remember talking to a guy who had a Nissan 300ZX back then. He said he bought a loud alarm and de-mobiliser, never left anything in the car, and always left his doors unlocked.
He was worried more about some druggy breaking the windows or doors than anything else.

I used to have to park in the street at one time, and quiet court, but the doorlock was screwdrivered. They didn't even get in, just stuffed the lock. Who'd have thought you couldn't open a lock by just shoving something into it and turning it hard.
Nowadays if you want to steal a car the criminals are going for push button start cars.

Having a manual car with a key start is a very thief proof car today.

Yeah it makes it hard for sure. Can understand how your wife feels.

I'm pretty sure once my kids turn 18 I'll be out of here though. They can either come with me or stay here, either with their Mum or independently. That's the rough plan in my head anyway.

Yeah they seem to have gone backwards.

Early Holdens were simple to steal.
When i worked there they had a key with a radio frequency code, that changed based on encryption. Virtually impossible to hack.
Now it seems that they are all easy to break into again.

The issue nowadays with drugs is the type of drug that’s being used. ICE addicts are far more prone to more violent crimes/behaviour whereas a heroin addict were far less prone to same levels of violence. I’m not saying heroin is great but there’s is a significant difference

I still don't feel unsafe in the city. Back in the 90s the city was a lot quieter so you would get singled out easier. It feels like you are in a 24 hour asian city now. 3 in the morning the streets are still bubbling with people. The crackhead to normal people ratio is still pretty low.

The climate there is elite.

My mechanic was laughing about that. Reckons that you don't need to lock the car if it's a manual because no-one under 25 can drive one.

My son has his manual license. He was buying a second hand car and said he didn't care if it was manual , and i'm like " go for a manual, often less mechanical issues and a few grand cheaper.

A typical CVT doesn't get to 200 000km.

Yep, a lot cheaper to throw a new clutch plate in that to get an auto rebuilt!

Saw this guy at the Palais last night

Bit of a weird gig for me. Gary and band were dope.... loved it. I don't feel like a seated gig at the Palais was the right atmosphere though. Would much rather have been standing up. It was all a bit subdued, vibe wise.
I think the sound at the Palais leaves a lot to be desired too. The opening act sounded atrocious. They played fine but the mix wasn't good. It was better for Gary but still not great.
Still enjoyed it though.

I’m in the process of moving. Isa to Yeppoon. Removalists here tomorrow.
Can’t wait. Big plus I feel at home in Poon.

Very underutilised, Melbourne Concert Hall ( I refuse to use the names of random old premiers , Hamer Hall, Bolte Bridge , John Cain Arena, sorry none of them deserve to have stuff named after them ) at the art centre would have to have the best acoustics i've heard in Melbourne.

Robert Cray, Chris Rea, Jethro Tull, and even the Hollies all had immaculate sound.
( Jethro Tull weren't on top of their game ,but the sound was flawless, Hollies and Rea were very pleasant surprises , Craw was just great ).

Agree it sounds great. Seeing Tommy Emmanuel there in a few weeks.

My kids have their school performance thing every year in March there….. although I could probably do with that sounding a bit more muffled. 🤣

True story, my old man used to sit next to Ian Anderson at school as a kid in the UK many years ago......said he was a weird kid, and although they were all poor working-class post-war baby boom kids, he thought it was a bit much when Anderson used to wear a tea-cosy as a beanie in the cold weather.......

No shit. Grew into a weird adult, but creative.

Worked with a fitter who told me Darryl Braithwaite had been one of the apprentices where he worked.
Now this guy back at the time was a full blown , long hair, flare wearing hippy ( i saw the photo's), but when he went to work he dressed for work.
He told me everyone would laugh at Darryl when he turned up at at work in platform shoes and bellbottoms.

I remember doing those kids concerts there. Abysmal.

I've often said that I reckon for most creative people that gain success and fame, it's about 5% of their output that appeals to the masses and makes their fortune, and for many, 95% of what they produce has no commercial appeal.

I mean imagine becoming world famous leading a progressive rock band named after an 18th century farmer, playing the flute whilst standing on one leg..........you seriously couldn't make this stuff up!

The way records used to work, i used to buy an album after hearing the singles on the radio or something.
Often it was some of the more oddball or radical tracks on the album that kept you playing it long after the single had become boring.
After a fair few listens to songs that seemed weird or abrasive the first few times, you started to appreciate what was happening. Meanwhile there was often not much special in the songs deemed best for mass appeal.

Pink Floyd's "money"( single ) was a good track , but by no means was it close to the highlight of the Album.

My favourite Dire Straits record was probably "Love over Gold", which included 14 minute Telegraph Road, but the single "Industrial Disease" was pretty much a joke song.

The way people listen to music now, i don't know how they steer them away from the hyper commercial stuff.

The inverse of this applies to me as well.

The better half won't leave WA where her entire family is. However, she will invite them all over for a gathering and as the day approaches her hostess anxiety starts to build, then on the morning of the day/weekend itself she's an irrational raging lunatic, then when it's all done, smiles and a cuddle followed by the come down migraine within 2-3 days.

I'm sure I start to twitch whenever she suggests a family catch-up.

Gee, that doesn't sound like every female ever...........said no-one!
