There is the problem. I remember when they first came into the market Mum tried to get a quote with them, except they don't do a quote, you actually have to take out the policy and then jump through hoops to cancel if it is more than your existing. Any business that is not upfront like that I would never deal with. I had a not at fault claim via AAMI which went smooth, I always flip flop between them and RAC(X), whoever is cheaper. Wouldn't trust Youi or some of these other white label insurers as far as I could spit.
I'm the same, happy to pay bit extra for RAVC as they are so easy and fair to deal with. 4 claims, no issues.

I remember years my quite old corona got stolen in the city and was found nearby but they had reversed the back into the tree. Only minor damage but insurance wrote it off and gave me $3k when I would’ve been lucky to sell it for half that. Really would’ve liked to thank the thief

It was OK, not fantastic but not awful. Bit time consuming. Had to chase the assessor for a few days before getting a call back.

He could reasonably justify the price he gave.

Also, YOUI are outrageously expensive, not sure how anyone is with him.
Youi became by far the cheapest for me when I moved to Canberra.

When we renewed last year (and when we got the new car), I reckon they were about $300ish at least more than anyone else.

RACV have been great, and my car is with Budget.
Oh, Youi were way more expensive than anyone when I was still in Wollongong so I was as surprised as anyone when they turned out to be the cheapest option.

Maybe location plays a big role for them.

Yeah could be.

I just went cheapest option which was Budget.

It's mental how car insurance goes up each year yet the value of cars goes down each year.
Yeah this has always shit me. I've never stayed with the same insurer twice for that very reason.

I've got 4 speeding fines in the last 2 months so I'm ****ed.

Told Mrs moomba to take me off her insurance. Not sure what I'll do with mine.
Interestingly not all insurers in NSW ask about that. They check if you've lost your license but not how many fines you've had. Some do but it did surprise me a little bit.

Wish it was the same here.

I've got 10 points on my licence with another 3 heading my way.

12 points is a suspension so I might have some interesting discussions ahead.

Consider myself a pretty safe driver too. 1 accident (not my fault) in nearly 40 years.

In the scheme of things a few fines here and there isn't going to change the risk profile. Obviously a loss of license does change that risk profile and in that case there will be a significant premium bump.

The way the system is designed is the majority who drive regularly gets done at some stage, even if inadvertently for 5 kays over the limit.

Is it easy to offload fines over there? Surely Mrs Moomba could do a deal where she takes the fine in exchange for you wearing a Utd jersey around the house for a week or so.

Different in the UK. One offence adds loads to the rate.

It's more about profit than risk.

I figure I got myself into it. It's up to me to get myself out of it.

Anyway, I've got beef with the Mrs for telling me to drive the limit, shes a horrible back seat driver. So I can't really ask her to take the fall for me.

Got good cameras over here now that apparently make it pretty clear who is driving. Not that long ago some politicians wife got put in jail for claiming a speeding offence her husband was responsible for.

Haha. The amount of times I've helped out family with this, also work where if a driver isn't nominated for a fine on work vehicle company is liable for a $3500 fine. Usually it is the boss who's the actual guilty party with 11 points on their license. I can neither confirm or deny if I received compo for doing as such...

Ironically if the $3500 company car fine is paid without nominating anyone the points for the infraction aren't assigned to anybody.

They would have got away with it but when the guy told his wife he was leaving her she started blabbing to the press about the incident. They both got 8 month jail sentences.

What for? Canberra's a great place to live.
Was just playing, one of my oldest mates live down there.

Definitely not for me but provided you don't mind the cold, I'm sure it's a perfectly fine place to live.

Update - after going through a formal complaint process and mediation we're now 1.5k apart in valuation after previously being miles off. Taking it further requires going to AFCA so I'm begrudgingly going to accept the offer. I will use up all my care hire allowance before buying another car though.

I have my brother living there working for the federal govt.

Based in Belconnen. Had many a drink @ Belconnen soccer club. I do enjoy the lack of traffic jams when visiting. It's a nice place.

I must say in summer having to head to Batemans Bay for a day out at the beach in summer would be most annoying if I were living there.

Never been a big beach person so not too bothered by being inland, at least it's only 2 hours or so.
